To verify Spotify Premium Student eligibility, choose your institution in Spotify’s student offer flow, complete the SheerID check, and then return to Spotify to activate the plan. If asked, sign in through your school portal or upload proof of current enrollment. Verification and subscribing are separate steps.
Check whether you and your school qualify
Eligibility depends on your country and the institutions included in its offer. For the US offer, Spotify requires students to be at least 18 and enrolled at an eligible Title IV-accredited college or university. The live SheerID form is the practical way to check whether your school is included. Do not assume the US criteria apply in other countries; check the local Spotify student offer and the institution list shown in the form. You do not need to add a school email address to your Spotify account. Spotify says verification may instead involve signing in to your institution’s portal or providing enrollment evidence. Follow the proof instructions presented by SheerID rather than relying on an .edu address alone. Spotify’s Premium Student support page explains the process.

Verify through SheerID and activate the plan
- Open Spotify’s Premium Student offer. Select your country or region and find your college or university in the SheerID form. If it is not listed, see the next section before continuing.
- Complete the verification requested. Depending on the flow, you may be asked to sign in to your school portal or upload proof of enrollment. Spotify says confirmation can take several days.
- Submit current enrollment evidence if requested. Use an official document from your institution that shows enrollment for the current term, and ensure the details match what you entered. Follow the upload instructions in the form. Spotify’s verification troubleshooting page directs students with verification problems to SheerID.
- Return to Spotify after approval. Use the confirmation email or link from SheerID to continue. Approval confirms eligibility; it does not itself start the subscription. Complete the Premium Student signup for a new or existing Spotify account.
- Choose an accepted payment method. Available methods vary by location. Spotify says Premium Student cannot be paid through mobile billing or through another company, such as a phone or internet provider.
If your college is not listed
If the institution does not appear in the current form, Spotify says the discount is not available for that school at that time. You can submit a request for SheerID to review the institution. Spotify says that review may take up to 30 days and that it cannot influence the outcome; a school in an unsupported country cannot be added through this route. Keep the discount active and avoid a full-price surprise
Spotify requires reverification every 12 months, for a maximum of four years. It says it sends a renewal email about four weeks before the current eligibility period expires. Renew through the instructions in that email or through your Spotify account. If you do not renew, the plan continues at the standard price. Spotify’s Premium Student renewal instructions explain how to renew, including after expiry.
Resolve common verification and billing problems
- SheerID asks for documents: Upload the current-term enrollment proof requested in the form. For verification issues, use SheerID’s support route indicated by Spotify.
- You were verified, but the discounted plan is not active: Return to Spotify and finish subscribing; approval alone does not activate Premium Student. Check that your selected payment method is supported and that another billing partner is not managing the subscription.
- You are charged the standard price: Check whether your student eligibility period expired and whether you renewed. An unrenewed plan moves to the standard price.
- You are studying abroad: Spotify says your account country or region should match where you are studying, and your payment method should be issued there.
