To know whether Claude Code did what you asked, agree on a visible success check before it edits, then verify the result yourself. A confident “done” is not proof: check what changed, whether the relevant test or other check actually ran, and what it showed.
Anthropic describes Claude Code as an agent that reads files, runs commands, and makes multi-file edits. That makes it useful for repository work—and makes evidence of the result more valuable than a completion message alone. The five rules below are practical guidance based on Anthropic’s documentation, not an official five-rule checklist.

1. Define what “done” means before work starts
Give Claude Code both the outcome you want and one observable way to judge it. “Fix the form” is open to interpretation; “show an error when the email field is empty, and confirm the existing form test passes” gives you something concrete to inspect.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Choose a check that matches the request. For a behavior change, that might be a relevant test, a specific before-and-after condition, or a visible result you can verify. Anthropic’s guidance identifies verification as the most impactful practice for checking output; deciding on an acceptance check up front is a practical way to apply that advice. - A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
- Outcome: What should change for the person using the software?
- Acceptance check: What observable result would support that outcome?
- Scope: Is there anything Claude Code should leave untouched?
2. Ask for a plan and scope before edits
For a change spanning several files—or one that is hard for you to inspect—ask Claude Code to explain its plan and name the files it expects to change before it starts editing. This gives you a chance to catch a misunderstanding while the work is still only proposed.
Anthropic describes plan mode as read-only: Claude Code can investigate and propose a plan, then wait for approval before acting. Its workflow guide says the plan can identify the files and changes involved. Available modes and capabilities can vary with version and organizational policy, so check what your current session offers. See the Claude Code FAQ and workflow guide.

- CRISP CLARITY: This 22 inch class (21.5″ viewable) Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- 100HZ FAST REFRESH RATE: 100Hz brings your favorite movies and video games to life. Stream, binge, and play effortlessly
- SMOOTH ACTION WITH ADAPTIVE-SYNC: Adaptive-Sync technology ensures fluid action sequences and rapid response time. Every frame will be rendered smoothly with crystal clarity and without stutter
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
Use this step when the scope is consequential or unclear, rather than adding ceremony to a tiny, easily checked change. If the proposed files or approach do not match your request, correct the plan before approving work.
3. Require the agreed check to run—and ask for its result
After edits, ask Claude Code to run the acceptance check you agreed on and report what happened. Anthropic’s example workflow has Claude Code rerun a test suite to confirm a proposed fix. A test passing is evidence about that test; it does not prove that every requirement was tested or satisfied.

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
Separate three claims when reading the closeout:
- The command ran: Claude Code attempted the check.
- The check passed: The command reported success under its own criteria.
- The requested outcome is correct: The result meets your acceptance criteria.
Those claims are related, but they are not interchangeable. A command can run and fail; a test can pass while missing an important requirement. If the check could not run, ask for the reason and treat the outcome as unverified rather than assuming success.
4. Inspect the changed files, not just the narration
Ask which files changed and what changed in each, then review the diff—the line-by-line record of edits—against your original request. Look for unrelated changes, missing pieces, or edits that appear to solve a different problem.
Rank #4
- CURVED FOR ENHANCED ENGAGEMENT: An immersive viewing experience with a curved monitor that wraps more closely around your field of vision; It creates a wider view, enhancing depth perception and minimizing peripheral distraction

- KEEP IT EASY ON THE EYES: Care for your eyes and stay comfortable, even during long sessions; Advanced eye comfort technology certified by TÜV reduces eye strain by minimizing blue light and reducing irritating screen flicker²
- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
Anthropic describes a reviewable diff and enough context to close a ticket as part of an issue workflow’s end state. The diff is the artifact to assess; Claude Code’s explanation is useful context, not a substitute for looking at the changes. See Anthropic’s workflow guidance.

5. Make the final status evidence-based
Ask for a short closeout that separates completed work from what remains unchecked. It should state the requested outcome, files changed, checks run and exact results, and anything that could not be verified. If no check ran, the status should say “not verified” and explain why—not imply that the work passed.

For repeatable enforcement, Anthropic documents hooks and permission controls. A PreToolUse hook can inspect a tool call and block it by exiting with code 2; the hook guide says that exit also passes stderr feedback. Hooks are an advanced, optional control, not a requirement for every non-coder. Instructions tell Claude Code what to do, but are not the same as a configured guardrail that blocks an action or runs a deterministic check. See the hooks guide and Claude Code settings and controls.
A prompt you can adapt
This is suggested wording, not an official Anthropic prompt:
Before changing anything, tell me the plan and which files you expect to change. Afterward, show the diff, run [the agreed check], and report the exact result. If you cannot run it, say “not verified” and explain why.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
If the work needs to be undone
Anthropic documents automatic checkpoints at each prompt and the /rewind command for returning to an earlier checkpoint. For work that has already been committed, Anthropic directs users to normal git revert. These are recovery options, not evidence that a task passed its acceptance checks. See the Claude Code FAQ.
