Install Kodi from Google Play when the store offers it for your Samsung Galaxy tablet. Search for Kodi, confirm the publisher is Kodi Foundation, tap Install, then open the app. Google Play selects a suitable build and handles updates by default, so most users do not need to sideload an APK.
Install Kodi from Google Play
- Open the Play Store on your tablet.
- Search for Kodi and check that the publisher is Kodi Foundation. You can also open the official Kodi listing on Google Play.
- Tap Install, wait for the download to finish, then tap Open.
Kodi’s Android installation guide recommends Google Play where available: it selects a build for the device and manages app updates. The exact labels and screens can vary with your Galaxy model and One UI version.

When to use Kodi’s official APK
Use a manual APK only if Google Play is unavailable or you have another specific reason to install outside the store. Download it from Kodi’s official Android download page, not an APK mirror. The page offers Android builds for different processor architectures, including ARM 32-bit and ARM 64-bit. Choose the build that matches the tablet; if you do not know its architecture, the Play Store route avoids that choice.
Allow the app that opens the APK
- Download the APK from Kodi’s official page.
- On the tablet, open Settings and search for Install unknown apps.
- Select the app you will use to open the download, such as Chrome or a file manager, and allow installs from that source.
- Open the downloaded APK and follow the prompts to install Kodi.
- Afterward, return to the same setting and turn off that source’s permission if you no longer need it.
Samsung applies this permission to the app opening the APK; allowing Chrome, for example, does not automatically allow a different file manager. Samsung warns, “Your phone and personal data are more vulnerable to attacks from unknown apps.” See Samsung’s instructions for installing unknown apps before proceeding.

Will Kodi run on your Samsung tablet?
There is no blanket guarantee for every Galaxy tablet or every Kodi feature. Kodi says compatibility depends on device capabilities. Its Android reference lists Android 5.0 or later for Kodi v17 and later, and an x86 or NEON-compatible ARM processor, but that baseline is not a guarantee for every current Kodi release or device. Check the current Kodi Android reference, the current download page, and your Play Store listing for the specific tablet.

- Play Store says Kodi is unavailable or incompatible: Check the listing on the tablet and update its software if an update is available. Store compatibility depends on the device.
- The download or install stalls: Confirm the tablet has a working internet connection and enough free storage. Samsung identifies network, space, and software version as possible installation factors in its app installation troubleshooting guidance.
- An APK will not open or install: Confirm it came from Kodi’s official Android page and that permission is enabled for the specific browser or file manager opening it. If the build does not match the tablet’s architecture, use Google Play if available or verify the device’s architecture before trying another official build.
- Kodi installs but a feature does not work as expected: Device capabilities vary; installation alone does not establish that every feature is supported.
What Kodi provides after installation
Kodi is a media player, not a bundled movie or television catalog. Its official Google Play listing says the app contains no content. You provide media from local or remote storage, or use media carriers you own. External storage is optional for installation; before buying a USB-C drive, check that the exact tablet supports the connection and drive format you intend to use.
