Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo check an AI-generated I Ching reading, verify its cast first, then compare each quoted Judgment, Image, and changing-line passage with the exact translation and edition it names. Keep the source text, translator’s commentary, and the AI’s application to your question distinct: a textual match can establish fidelity to a source, but not prove that the interpretation is uniquely correct or spiritually true.
What you can—and cannot—verify
Textual accuracy is checkable: you can confirm whether the hexagram and line numbers are right, whether a quotation appears in the cited edition, and whether the AI has presented commentary or paraphrase as if it were source text. The result is a finding about fidelity to that source.

That check does not establish predictive success or prove that one interpretation is the only valid one. No controlled benchmark establishing an accuracy rate for AI interpretations is available here, so a percentage would be unwarranted.

Record the reading and its source
Save the full AI response before checking it. Record the hexagram number and name, all six lines in bottom-to-top order, any changing lines, the resulting hexagram if provided, and the translation’s exact name and edition. A familiar-sounding phrase alone is not enough to identify its translator.
#1 Best Overall
If the AI does not identify a source or edition, ask it to name the source for each quotation. Then consult that edition directly; the edition in hand is the authority for checking its wording.
Check the cast before checking the interpretation
A hexagram has six lines, read from the bottom upward. Verify each line’s position as well as its yin or yang form; reversing the order changes the figure.
Rank #2
For the three-coin method described in the Ask-Yijing casting guide, three identical coins are tossed six times to build the lines from the bottom up. In that method, totals of 6 and 9 are changing lines; 7 and 8 are stable yang and yin lines, respectively. Reverse the changing lines to derive the resulting hexagram, then check that the AI’s figure agrees.

Compare like with like in the named translation
- Open the cited edition at the stated hexagram number and name.
- Compare the AI’s Judgment with the Judgment in that edition, and its Image with the Image.
- For every changing line, check the same numbered line statement—not a nearby line or a general passage about the hexagram.
- Where relevant to the reading method, check the derived hexagram’s Judgment too. The Ask-Yijing guide describes consulting the Judgment and Image and, for changing lines, the corresponding line commentaries and the derived hexagram’s Judgment.
- Mark discrepancies precisely: a wrong hexagram or line number, an omitted qualification, a paraphrase presented as a quotation, or wording drawn from commentary rather than the named passage.
For example, the guide reproduces James Legge’s wording for hexagram 1: “Qian (represents) what is great and originating, penetrating, advantageous, correct and firm.” This is a sample translation from Legge’s The I Ching (1882), not a wording shared by every translator.
Separate source text, commentary, and the AI’s application
Label each part of the answer as one of four things: an exact quotation, a paraphrase or translation, traditional commentary, or the model’s application of the material to your question. Ask the AI to separate those categories if it blends them together.
Rank #4
This distinction matters because the core text, a translator’s wording, and commentary are not interchangeable. A model may preserve the general idea while paraphrasing, or it may add an application that is not stated in the cited passage. Neither should be mistaken for an exact quotation.
The Original I Ching App’s FAQ describes that particular product as using AI to articulate already-formed results and says its texts come from named sources. Those are vendor statements about its own app, not evidence that another AI model or app behaves the same way. Check the output you have against the source it names.

Account for translation and edition differences
Legge and Wilhelm are distinct translation traditions. If wording differs, first check the translator, edition, textual layer, and whether the AI is quoting or paraphrasing. A difference does not by itself show that the model is wrong—or that either English wording is universally definitive.
Comparing aligned passages from two translators can make choices about a key phrase visible. Keep the comparison focused on the same hexagram, component, and line, and note whether each source includes commentary. The Yi Jing help documentation describes features for accessing original text and comparing commentary; that is a description of that product’s tools, not a general accuracy guarantee.
Describe the result without claiming more than the check shows
Report what you established, such as “the quotation matches Legge’s wording in this edition,” “the line number is wrong,” “this is a paraphrase rather than a quotation,” or “the model’s application is not stated in the cited text.” That is more informative than calling an entire reading simply accurate or inaccurate: different parts of one response may check out differently.
