Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo use your phone as a webcam with Camo, install Camo Studio on your Mac or Windows computer and Camo Camera on your iPhone or Android phone, connect the devices, then select Camo in your call or recording app. For a first setup, Camo recommends USB; choose Wi-Fi when you need more freedom to position the phone.
Set up Camo on your phone and computer
- Install Camo Studio on your Mac or Windows computer and Camo Camera on your phone from its app store. These are the desktop and mobile components of Camo’s setup. See Camo’s camera product page.
- Open both apps. Keep Camo Camera running on the phone while you connect it to the computer.
- Connect the phone. Use USB for a straightforward first attempt, or pair over Wi-Fi if you need to place the phone farther from the computer or keep its port available.
- Select the phone in Camo Studio and confirm that its camera preview appears. The preview lets you check the selected camera and framing before opening the call or recording app. Camo’s interface guide describes the preview and device status indicators.
- Choose Camo as the camera source in your video-call, recording, or streaming application. The exact menu names vary by app and version; look in its video or camera settings for the Camo camera.
- Frame and secure the shot. Set the phone at a stable angle and check the preview again. A stand or mount is optional, but can help with desk framing or overhead demonstrations.
Choose USB or Wi-Fi
Camo recommends a wired connection for people seeking the smoothest, most robust feed. Wi-Fi makes it easier to move or reposition the phone, but may introduce more delay, jitter, or hitching. Actual results depend on the phone, computer, network, and video settings. Camo explains these tradeoffs in its Wi-Fi connectivity guide, published October 20, 2022 and updated July 31, 2024.

| Connection | Choose it when | Tradeoff or detail |
|---|---|---|
| USB | You are setting Camo up for the first time or want the wired option Camo recommends for a smooth, robust feed. | The phone stays tethered and its connection port is occupied. |
| Wi-Fi | You need flexible placement, want an overhead or top-down angle, or need the phone port for another accessory. | Wireless video can have more latency, jitter, or hitching than wired video. Camo says its macOS app adds a small delay to smooth Wi-Fi jitter. |
For Android on Windows, Camo says Wi-Fi avoids the USB debugging requirement associated with a wired connection. If you have an iPhone and Windows PC, Windows Studio needs Apple’s standard mobile components; Camo says an iTunes installation commonly supplies them, or Studio may prompt you to install them. See the Camo FAQ.
Position the phone for calls, recording, or overhead video
Put the phone on a stable surface or use an adjustable mount if the camera needs to sit above a desk or point straight down at a work surface. A mount is not required for Camo; choose one that fits your phone, desk or tripod, and intended angle. Wi-Fi can help when cable length would limit placement. #1 Best Overall
- FEATURE: the tripod phone mount is adjustable by screw mechanism, 360 degree rotating, vertical(portrait mode) and horizontal(landscape mode) or any angle as you need, not necessary to take your cell phone out of a standard tripod or small tripod.
- EASY TO USE: two options for using tripod phone holder: 1. screw it directly to the tripod or selfie stick with pivoting arm, being able to 360 degrees rotating, 2. remove the phone clamp from pivoting arm and then mount on a tripod or monopod.
- ADJUSTABLE WIDTH: 2.2inch-4.1inch(55mm-105mm), attachable to any regular-size smartphone, tripod, selfie stick, monopod or camera; two standard 1/4 x 20mm female thread interfaces meeting your various needs. Very functional and compact.
- MATERIAL: the black part made of sturdy plastic, the female threads inserted are brass, the male screw is steel and soft non-slipping silica gel pads, which protect your cellphone from scratch and hold the phone securely.
- ATTACHABLE TO: most mobile phones, tripods, unipods, selfie sticks, cameras, camcorders, pico projectors, including iPhone 11/11 Pro/11 Pro Max/X/XS/XR/XS Max/8/7/6/6s Plus/SE/5s/5/5c, Samsung Galaxy S10/10+/S9/S9+/S8/S8+/S7/S6/S6 edge, Note10/10+/9/8 and Android phones.
Troubleshoot common Camo connection problems
- Camo Studio says no devices are connected: Make sure Camo Camera is installed and open on the phone, then check that the phone is selected in Studio. A phone plugged in over USB without Camo Camera running may still appear as disconnected.
- The Studio icon shows a warning: Camo’s interface guide says a warning means Studio has detected a problem, such as a device not working as expected or another app trying to use video when no device is selected. Check the selected source and confirm the phone is connected with Camo Camera open.
- An iPhone will not connect to Camo Studio on Windows: Check that Apple’s standard mobile components are installed. Camo says iTunes commonly provides them; Studio may prompt you if they are missing.
- The phone gets warm: Camo says image processing happens on the phone. Its vendor guidance recommends keeping Screen Curtain enabled to reduce screen power and heat; heavy effects and adjustments can add processing load. This is Camo’s guidance, not an independent thermal test.
- The Wi-Fi picture hitches or feels delayed: Try USB if a steadier feed matters more than flexible placement. Camo notes that Wi-Fi can add latency or jitter.
- You cannot get the angle you want: Move the phone closer or use a stable mount; Wi-Fi may make an overhead or top-down position easier when a cable would restrict placement.
Check compatibility and version information
Camo supports USB and Wi-Fi options for supported iOS and Android phones with macOS and Windows computers, but the exact compatibility depends on device and software versions. Camo’s Wi-Fi article describes iOS 13+ and macOS 10.15+ for that feature, alongside supported Android and Windows versions; because that article was published in 2022 and updated in 2024, treat those version details as historical guidance rather than a complete current compatibility list. Check Camo’s current information for your specific phone and computer before relying on support.
Camo’s interface support page displayed a latest-release label of 2.9.1 dated September 28, 2026. Its release-notes page separately surfaced Windows Studio 2.7.3 dated June 8, 2026, and macOS Studio 2.7.2 dated May 20, 2026. These are platform-specific entries, not one universal version number. See Camo release notes.
