Windows 11 includes built-in ways to arrange apps, retrieve copied text, quiet notifications and separate workspaces. These 11 practical tips show where to find them and what to expect from each feature.
Arrange apps with Snap
1. Put two windows side by side
Drag a window to the left or right edge of the screen, or select it and press Windows key + Left Arrow or Windows key + Right Arrow. Choose another open app from Snap Assist to fill the other side. For Microsoft’s overview, see Snap Your Windows.

2. Choose a Snap layout
Hover over the maximize button in an app’s title bar, or press Windows key + Z, then select a layout and position for the current window. Windows offers different arrangements depending on display size, so the available choices may vary between screens.
3. Return to a snapped group
When you have snapped windows together, Windows can treat them as a Snap Group. Find the group by hovering over a relevant app on the taskbar, or look for it in Task View or the Alt + Tab switcher. Microsoft Support describes Snap groups as “collections of windows that you have snapped together, saving time by allowing you to quickly switch back to a specific arrangement of windows.”

Find and separate your open work
4. Use Task View to find a window
Press Windows key + Tab to open Task View, where you can see open windows and switch to the one you need. This is useful when several apps are open and their taskbar buttons are difficult to distinguish.
5. Create a separate desktop
Press Windows key + Ctrl + D to create a virtual desktop. Use Windows key + Tab to view your desktops and move between workspaces. You can keep, for example, study materials apart from personal browsing without closing either set of apps.

6. Open clipboard history
Press Windows key + V. If clipboard history is off, select the option to turn it on when prompted. Instead of retaining only the latest copied item, the history lets you choose from recent entries. Microsoft’s instructions are in Clipboard in Windows.
7. Pin reusable entries
Open history with Windows key + V and pin entries you want to keep available. Clipboard history holds up to 25 entries; unpinned items are cleared when you restart Windows, while pinned items are the exception.

8. Decide whether to sync clipboard history
To review cross-device clipboard options, open Settings > System > Clipboard. Sync is optional and uses the same Microsoft or work account on the connected devices. Because syncing sends copied content across devices, keep it off if that is not appropriate for the material you copy.
Limit interruptions when you need focus
9. Start a Focus session
Open Settings > System > Focus to set a session duration and choose its effects. A Focus session can turn on Do not disturb and hide taskbar badges and flashing indicators. Microsoft’s support directions also point to the Clock app for starting a focus session; exact controls may vary with Windows updates. For notifications you do not want silenced, review your Do not disturb settings.

Use supported phone features from your PC
10. Connect a phone with Phone Link
Phone Link can bring selected phone functions—such as messages, photos, calls and notifications—to a Windows PC. The available functions depend on the phone and its software. Microsoft’s Android setup guidance specifies Android 10 or later and a shared Wi-Fi network; check the current Phone Link requirements and setup before pairing. iPhone features differ, so consult Microsoft’s current iPhone guidance rather than assuming Android and iPhone offer the same capabilities.

11. Keep three everyday shortcuts close
- Windows key + X: Open the Quick Link menu for commonly used system tools.
- Windows key + Z: Open Snap layout choices for the active window.
- Windows key + V: Open clipboard history; enable the feature if Windows prompts you the first time.
These shortcuts complement the mouse-based options above. Use whichever method is easier for the task and your setup.
