To run a continuous YouTube playlist stream with Upstream, upload your videos, add them to a playlist, choose Loop Continuously, connect the correct YouTube channel, and start or schedule the broadcast. Upstream says playback runs on its servers, so after the stream starts you can turn off your computer.
Before you start
Prepare the video files you want to broadcast and decide whether to connect YouTube through Upstream or configure the stream manually with RTMP. Upstream recommends YouTube Connect for a YouTube-only destination. Manual RTMP is an alternative if you do not want to grant the requested YouTube permissions.

Use media you have the rights to stream, including music and other material embedded in the videos. A tool’s ability to loop a file does not establish that you may broadcast it or that it qualifies for monetization. - Create a stream and connect YouTube. In Upstream, create a new stream, select YouTube, and choose Connect with YouTube. Select the Google account and channel you intend to broadcast from, then grant the requested permissions. If the Google account has multiple channels, check that you selected the right one. Follow Upstream’s YouTube Connect setup guide.
- Upload and add your media. For a video playlist, upload files that already include their audio and add them to the playlist. Upstream also documents a format with a video or image background and a separate audio playlist; the audio can be played in order or shuffled. Its Quick Start Guide covers the playlist workflow.
- Choose the playback behavior. Select Loop Continuously if the playlist should start again after its final item. A different playback choice can cause the content to stop after one play rather than repeat.
- Start now or schedule the broadcast. Start the stream manually, or create a one-time or recurring schedule. Upstream documents daily, weekly, and monthly recurring schedules, as well as back-to-back cycles with pauses. Playlist edits can be published while a stream is live, according to its Quick Start Guide.
- Verify the setup. Check that the intended files are loaded, the playlist order and looping behavior are right, and any schedule uses the intended time. Upstream recommends testing privately or as an unlisted stream before relying on the setup.
Choose YouTube Connect or manual RTMP

Manual RTMP: the extra YouTube Studio steps
With manual RTMP, create or schedule the receiving stream in YouTube Studio and use its Manage tab to configure the schedule. Select the intended stream key and enable Auto-start so the scheduled Upstream broadcast can begin. If the Upstream schedule has an end time, enable YouTube’s Auto-stop as well. Upstream describes these steps in its schedule guide. Test the connection privately or unlisted and confirm the correct key before using it for a public broadcast.

Set a schedule that matches the playlist
Use Loop Continuously for a playlist that should keep repeating. Upstream’s schedule guide distinguishes this from Play Once and End; it says Play Once and End does not allow a scheduled end time. For a repeating playlist that should stop at a chosen time, use Loop Continuously with a schedule that has an end time.
For one-time or recurring schedules, Upstream also documents duration choices for a custom duration, just under 12 hours, or the total playlist duration. Upstream describes the just-under-12-hour option as a way to make a livestream archivable. Archive behavior is governed by YouTube’s current rules, so check those rules before depending on an archive being available.

Upstream’s current FAQ describes its free plan as including 24 streaming hours per month, suitable for testing or shorter broadcasts; it says a stream intended to run throughout the month needs a paid plan. Treat these as Upstream’s plan statements, not a guarantee that a given account or offer will have identical terms later. Check Upstream’s FAQ and YouTube live-streaming overview for current details before choosing a plan.
Keep rights and YouTube rules in view
Only broadcast videos, music, images, and other material you are entitled to use for a continuous livestream. Permission to use a track in a different context does not automatically establish permission for a looping YouTube broadcast; check the license scope and destination terms. Upstream’s service guidance also makes clear that using its playout system does not remove the creator’s responsibility for rights or platform compliance.

Looping is a playback setting, not a promise of monetization, eligibility, reach, or archive availability. YouTube-specific requirements can depend on the account and current policy. Check YouTube’s current rules for your channel and content rather than assuming that a technically successful stream will qualify for every feature.
Common problems and fixes
- The stream stops after the playlist ends. Confirm the playlist uses Loop Continuously rather than a play-once behavior.
- The wrong YouTube channel is connected. Recheck the selected channel in the linked Google account, especially if the account manages more than one channel.
- A scheduled manual RTMP broadcast does not start. Confirm the YouTube receiving stream uses the correct key and that Auto-start is enabled. Compare the schedule in YouTube Studio with the Upstream schedule.
- The stream does not stop at the intended time. Check that the Upstream schedule includes an end time; for manual RTMP, verify Auto-stop is enabled in YouTube Studio.
- The video plays without its expected audio. For a video playlist, check that the uploaded files contain their audio. If using a separate audio playlist, verify that it is populated and configured as intended.
- You cannot rely on the free allowance for a month-long broadcast. Upstream currently describes its free plan as 24 streaming hours per month. Check its current plan terms if you need longer or continuous operation.
