When to use the inner screen
Unfold the Pixel Fold to use its larger inner display. Google identifies Drive, Docs, and Sheets as Workspace apps optimized for full-screen mode, and also highlights editing photos taken with the Fold and watching movies as uses for the larger display. These are examples, not a complete compatibility list; app layouts and support can vary. Google’s full-screen mode guide describes how to use the display.

How to use split screen and switch between apps
Split screen keeps two apps on screen at once. With the phone unfolded and an app open, you can start a split view in any of these ways:

- Taskbar: Slowly swipe up from the bottom edge to reveal the taskbar, then drag a second app to either side of the display.
- Overview: Swipe up from the bottom and hold to open Overview, tap Split, then choose the second app.
- Home or All apps: Long-press an app icon and choose Split, then select the other app.
To return to a single app, drag the center divider to either edge. Swiping up to Home exits split screen. For Google’s full instructions, see Use split screen and switch between apps on your Pixel Fold.

Save an app pair for later
If you often use the same two apps together, open Overview and choose Save app pair beneath the focus tile. Add the pair to Home or the taskbar so you can reopen it quickly.
Switch apps from the taskbar
Slowly swipe up from the bottom edge to show the taskbar, then tap the app you want. To add or rearrange taskbar apps, long-press an app in the app library and drag it into position. Google says you can continue using apps in a split pair when the phone is folded.

How to show content on both screens
For a face-to-face conversation in Google Translate, use Dual Screen to show translations to the other person on the outer display. Google documents this feature for Pixel Fold (1st Gen) and later.

How to use tabletop mode
Tabletop mode uses the Fold’s L-shaped position for hands-free viewing or selected camera tasks. The steps and orientation differ by use.
Hands-free video
Select the content you want to watch, fold the phone into an L shape, then place it on a surface with the cover screen facing down. To leave this position, unfold the phone fully or close it.

Tabletop group photo
Open Camera, fold the phone into an L shape, then place it with the screen facing you and the rear cameras facing your subject. Google says this photo feature is available only in select apps; its instructions include a 3- or 10-second timer. For setup details, see Google’s tabletop mode guide.
