To use the original DJI Mic, turn on its transmitter and receiver, connect the receiver to your phone, camera, or computer using the correct adapter or cable, then make a short test recording and check the audio. The transmitter and receiver are linked by default. This guide covers the first-generation DJI Mic only—not DJI Mic 2, DJI Mic 3, or DJI Mic Mini.
What you need before recording
The original DJI Mic sends audio from one or two transmitters to a receiver, which connects to your recording device. Check the contents of your kit before setup: package contents vary, and DJI says the one-transmitter/one-receiver kit does not include a charging case. Charge the receiver and transmitter before use. See DJI’s original DJI Mic FAQ for kit and connection details.

- The transmitter clips to clothing or can be attached with the supplied clip magnet where suitable.
- For outdoor or windy recording, fit the windscreen by aligning it with the transmitter slots and rotating it clockwise until it locks.
- The receiver can connect to as many as two transmitters.
Connect and link the transmitter and receiver
The original transmitter and receiver are linked by default, so in a normal setup you can switch them on and proceed to connect the receiver to your recording device. If they need to be linked again, use the receiver’s touchscreen:

Connect the receiver to your recording device
Phone: use the matching DJI adapter
Insert the matching DJI Mic phone adapter into the receiver’s bottom expansion port, then connect the receiver to the phone. DJI lists USB-C and Lightning adapter types. Open your video or audio recording app and make a brief test recording. Check DJI’s compatibility resources for your particular phone.
DJI says Stereo mode is not supported when the original receiver is connected to an iPhone through the Lightning adapter. If you need stereo from two transmitters, confirm the phone connection supports the channel arrangement you intend to record.

DJI describes connecting the receiver to a PC with a standard charging cable and selecting the appropriate audio input. Depending on the computer’s ports, the connection may use USB, USB-C audio, or a 3.5 mm audio input. If the computer has separate microphone and headphone ports, or only a combo jack, the required cable or splitter can differ. In the operating system’s sound settings and in your recording app, select the DJI receiver or microphone input, then make a test recording.

Choose the recording mode and check the signal
Mono or Stereo
- Mono (M): audio from two transmitters is recorded into one channel.
- Stereo (S): with two transmitters, one is assigned to the left channel and the other to the right. A one-transmitter kit needs an additional transmitter for this two-person stereo setup.
Safety Track
Safety Track (Ms) records a backup track 6 dB below the main track, according to DJI. This can preserve a quieter version if a sudden loud sound overwhelms the main recording. Account for the separate tracks when editing in post-production.
Monitor and mute
Connect headphones to the receiver’s 3.5 mm monitor port to listen while recording. DJI says monitor gain can be adjusted in receiver settings. To mute, use the receiver touchscreen or double-press the transmitter’s mute button; the transmitter indicator pulses red while muted.

Record a backup on the transmitter
The transmitter can record internally without the receiver connected. DJI specifies up to 5.5 hours of standalone recording on a full charge, or up to 14 hours with a constant power supply. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. DJI also specifies 24-bit lossless audio, 8 GB of built-in storage, and files saved in 30-minute segments. The transmitter does not accept an external SD card.

When storage is full, new audio replaces the earliest recordings. To keep or manage files, connect the transmitter to a computer over USB to export or delete recordings. DJI also says the receiver can format the transmitter’s storage. Do not rely on the internal recording as your only copy if you need to preserve earlier takes.

Troubleshoot a silent or weak recording
- No signal on a camera: reseat the 3.5 mm cable at both ends and verify it runs from the receiver output to the camera’s microphone input.
- Signal is very quiet: check transmitter gain, receiver gain, and the camera’s recording level. One or more may be set too low.
- Phone recording does not use the mic: verify that the adapter matches the phone’s connector, is fully inserted into the receiver, and that the recording app is using the external input.
- Computer recording is silent: select the receiver or microphone input in both the operating system and recording software; confirm the connection type suits the computer’s port.
- No link between transmitter and receiver: relink them using the receiver’s Settings > Link controls and confirm solid green indicators.
- One channel is missing or arranged unexpectedly: check whether Mono or Stereo is selected and whether your phone adapter, camera, or recording app supports the desired channel layout.
For model-specific instructions and device compatibility, use DJI’s download center. Camera input behavior can also depend on the camera’s own jack and settings.
