To check a Ryobi USB Lithium battery’s remaining charge, press the charge-level indicator button on the battery. On the RB4L20 and RB4L30 models covered by Ryobi’s 2024 operator’s manual, solid green means 66–100%, solid orange 26–65%, solid red 1–25%, and flashing red less than 1%.
How to check the battery’s remaining charge
- Find the charge-level indicator button on the battery body. The button is identified in the manual’s diagram.
- Firmly press the button to display the amount of charge available. For the UK RB4L20 listing, Ryobi describes checking the power level by pressing and holding the fuel-gauge button.
- Read the indicator using the color bands in the RB4L20/RB4L30 manual:

These ranges describe the manual’s gauge for those two models; they are not a universal standard for every Ryobi USB Lithium battery.

Battery charge level versus charging status
The fuel gauge shows remaining battery charge when you press its button. The indicator’s behavior changes when the battery is connected to a charging cable: the RB4L20/RB4L30 manual says flashing means charging, a lit LED means fully charged, and an off LED means there is no power supply or there is a USB-C cable error. Do not read those cable-status signals as the remaining-charge color bands.
Check the model before applying the color key
Ryobi uses different model names across markets. Its US page identifies the USB Lithium 2Ah battery as FVB02 and confirms it has an onboard LED fuel gauge, but that page does not state the color thresholds. The UK page describes the RB4L20 and says to press and hold its fuel-gauge button; Ryobi Australia lists RB4L20 and links the RB4L20/RB4L30 manual dated 29 June 2024.

Read the model printed on your battery and use the matching manual if its button or LED behavior differs. The color ranges above are documented for RB4L20/RB4L30 only. If the indicator does not respond, consult the manual for your model or contact Ryobi support; the available instructions do not establish a general reset or repair procedure.
