Keep watching the road, stay ready to take control immediately, and check your vehicle’s touchscreen manual and local rules before relying on any feature.
Check what your particular Tesla can do
“Assisted Driving” is Tesla’s umbrella term for driver-assistance features in its European Model Y manual. Tesla also uses names such as Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (Supervised); names and menu labels vary across vehicles and Tesla materials. A feature’s name or purchase status alone does not establish that it is fitted, available, or authorized where you are driving. Tesla’s European Model Y manual explains the suite and its limits; Tesla says actual availability and operation can vary with market, manufacture date, configuration, equipment, hardware, and software.

Use the vehicle’s own manual as your reference
Open the owner’s manual on the vehicle touchscreen and read the Assisted Driving section for the car you are driving. Tesla cautions that online information may not match every vehicle or software version. If the manual does not confirm a feature or explain how to use it on your car, do not infer its capabilities from another Tesla’s screen or from a feature name.

Know which task is being assisted
Traffic-Aware Cruise Control adjusts speed to the set speed and maintains an adjustable following distance when there is a vehicle ahead. It is distinct from steering assistance. In the cited Model Y manual, Tesla says all Tesla vehicles are equipped with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, but that statement does not establish the equipment or operation of every other feature on every vehicle. Verify the details for your own car in its manual.

Tesla describes Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Autosteer, and Navigate on Autosteer as intended for multi-lane roads with clear lane markings. The FSD (Supervised) manual describes a broader range of intended scenarios, but that does not mean the system can handle every situation or is available in every country. Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) limitations page sets out examples of conditions that can challenge it.
Use a feature only when you can supervise it
- Before setting off: Check the touchscreen manual for the feature’s instructions and limitations. Confirm that the feature is fitted and available for your vehicle and the country where you will use it.
- Before engaging it: Identify what the feature will do. Speed and following-distance assistance is not steering assistance; steering assistance does not transfer the driving responsibility. Decide whether the road, visibility, and traffic leave you able to supervise and intervene.
- While it is active: Watch the road and surrounding traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists. Keep your hands and attention ready for the controls, and respond to alerts or unexpected vehicle behavior by taking control.
- If conditions become difficult: Take over whenever the road layout, visibility, traffic, or the car’s behavior makes continued supervision uncertain. Do not wait for the system to resolve a situation that you judge requires your intervention.
Tesla warns that its features do not guarantee collision warnings or collision avoidance. Do not rely on them to detect every hazard, avoid every collision, or slow the vehicle adequately. The owner’s manual places responsibility for attention, understanding the limits, and immediate action on the driver.

Where extra caution is needed
Tesla’s limitations guidance gives examples of circumstances in which FSD (Supervised) may behave unexpectedly. The examples are not a complete list; an unlisted road or traffic situation should not be assumed safe for assistance.
- Other road users: Interactions with pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles; unprotected turns across fast-moving traffic; multi-lane turns; or simultaneous lane changes.
- Constrained or changing roads: Narrow roads with oncoming or double-parked vehicles, merges onto busy high-speed roads, roadworks, construction zones, and debris.
- Road geometry: Sharp or high-curvature roads, particularly at higher speeds, and blind corners or complex intersections.
- Reduced visibility: Low light, rain, snow, direct sun, and fog can significantly degrade FSD (Supervised) performance.
In these conditions, judge whether you can still monitor the system closely and intervene in time. If not, take control rather than treating continued operation as a test of what the feature can manage.

What European approval does—and does not—mean
Approval and feature availability are not automatically the same across Europe. On 10 April 2026, the Dutch vehicle authority RDW said its type approval for Tesla FSD Supervised was valid in the Netherlands at that time. RDW described it as driver-controlled assistance, not self-driving, and said the driver remained responsible and must stay in control. The announcement said further steps—including an application to the European Commission and a member-state vote—were needed for EU-wide use. It is therefore not evidence of approval in every European country. RDW’s announcement, dated 10 April 2026.
In an explanation published on 17 June 2026, RDW said its assessment included more than 3,000 hours of testing, more than 1,000 test runs, and analysis that included 1.8 million kilometres driven in Europe. Those are figures about the regulator’s approval assessment, not a general real-world safety or crash-reduction statistic. RDW’s explanation of the approval.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The cited RDW updates do not establish whether any later approval or EU-wide decision changed the position after those announcements. Before using a feature in a particular country, check current information from the relevant vehicle authority and confirm the feature’s status in your car’s manual. Do not treat authorization in one country as permission throughout Europe.

Tesla’s UK support guidance likewise describes currently enabled Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capability features as requiring active driver supervision; it does not describe them as autonomous. Names and exact functions can vary by vehicle and market, so use the manual and alerts for the car in front of you rather than assuming another model’s behavior applies.
