You can schedule a recorded lecture as a YouTube Live broadcast through StreamYard: upload an MP4 with H.264 video, choose your YouTube channel, set the event details and time, then create the broadcast. It starts automatically at the scheduled time and ends when the video finishes. The main planning points are your StreamYard plan’s file limits and whether to schedule an announcement so viewers can get the YouTube link early.
Before you schedule: check the video and channel
Prepare a supported video
StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guide specifies an .mp4 file with H.264 video encoding and a maximum bitrate of 10 Mbps (10,000 Kbps). If an upload fails or playback lags, StreamYard recommends re-encoding the file with HandBrake. Check the current limits for your account before scheduling because file size and duration depend on the plan. StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guide lists the limits.

These are StreamYard’s stated product limits; its help page does not identify a publication date. Prerecorded broadcasts stream at up to 1080p on paid plans and can be scheduled up to 365 days ahead. This upload workflow starts with a video file or an existing recording, so it does not require a camera, microphone, capture card, or external drive to send the lecture live.

Make sure YouTube Live is enabled
The YouTube channel you intend to use must already have live streaming enabled before you can select it as a destination. See StreamYard’s YouTube scheduling guide for its scheduling instructions and thumbnail guidance.

Schedule the prerecorded lecture in StreamYard
- Open the prerecorded-stream creator. In StreamYard Home, select Create, then Live Stream, then Pre-recorded video.
- Choose the lecture. Upload a video file from your computer, or select a past StreamYard broadcast. If you are uploading, confirm that it meets the format, bitrate, size, and duration limits for your plan.
- Select the YouTube destination. Choose the YouTube channel with live streaming enabled.
- Enter event details. Add the title and description, choose privacy settings, and set the date and time. You can also upload a thumbnail while scheduling; YouTube recommends an image of 1280 × 720 pixels.
- Choose whether to schedule an announcement. An announcement post makes the watch link available when that post is published. Without one, the link is not available on the destination until the prerecorded stream goes live. Decide now: StreamYard says you cannot add or change announcement timing after creating the broadcast.
- Create and check the broadcast. Select Create broadcast. From Home, use Check status to see whether it is live and view it once playback starts. The stream begins at the scheduled time and ends when the video finishes.
Choose how viewers get the YouTube link
If you want to share the watch link before the lecture begins, schedule an announcement post during broadcast setup and share the link once the post is published. If you do not schedule one, the link appears when the stream goes live. If you already created the broadcast without an announcement, StreamYard says you must delete and recreate it with the desired earlier announcement time to make the link available sooner. Factor that into your setup before sharing event details.
Know what automated playback can and cannot do
A prerecorded stream is automated playback, not a controllable live studio. StreamYard says you cannot control overlays or other media assets during playback, and comments cannot be shown on-stream. Viewers can still comment in YouTube chat, so you may participate there separately, but do not plan on live on-screen Q&A or production changes to the playing lecture. YouTube Live supports real-time chat as a platform feature; that does not make the prerecorded video itself interactive. YouTube’s live-streaming help explains the platform format.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The file will not upload: Confirm it is an MP4 with H.264 video, does not exceed the 10 Mbps bitrate ceiling, and fits your plan’s size and duration limits. If upload still fails, StreamYard recommends re-encoding with HandBrake.
- Playback lags: Check the source file and bitrate against the documented limits; StreamYard recommends re-encoding with HandBrake if a prerecorded stream lags.
- You cannot select the YouTube channel: Verify that live streaming is enabled for that channel, as required by StreamYard’s scheduling guide.
- The audience cannot open the link before the stream: Check whether you scheduled an announcement post. Without one, the link becomes available when playback goes live. If the broadcast is already created, recreate it with an announcement scheduled for the intended earlier time.
- You expected to show comments or change overlays during playback: Those controls are not available for the automated prerecorded stream. Keep YouTube chat open separately if you want to participate in viewer discussion.
