Choose the widget you need
Alert Box for channel events
Alert Box displays selected events on your stream, including YouTube subscribers, members, and Super Chats. The available event types and customization options depend on the selected platform and event.

Chat Box for on-screen messages
Chat Box overlays stream chat on the video output. Streamlabs’ guide dated July 9, 2026 explicitly includes YouTube among its supported chat platforms. Add it separately from Alert Box and position it so messages remain readable without obscuring important content.

Configure YouTube alerts in Streamlabs

Open the Streamlabs dashboard and go to Alert Box.

Confirm YouTube is selected for the account or channel configuration.

Choose the event types you want to configure, such as subscribers, members, or Super Chats.

Customize the controls offered for each event. Depending on the event, these can include layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation, and duration. Use the preview while editing.

Save your changes before leaving the settings.
Alert variations and shared or global settings are optional ways to manage multiple alert designs; they are not required for a basic setup.

Add Alert Box to your streaming software
Choose the route that matches your encoder. Streamlabs documents three main ways to add Alert Box:

| OBS without the plugin or other compatible software | Copy the widget URL from the Streamlabs dashboard and add it as a Browser Source. If event filtering is offered, choose the events to show. | Confirm the browser source is present in every intended scene. |
Exact menu names and controls can vary with the software and its current interface. The browser-source route is the option for compatible software without the Streamlabs plugin; it is not a claim that every encoder has identical widget controls.
Add and position Chat Box
Use the applicable Streamlabs Desktop source or widget flow, or follow the OBS plugin or browser-source route offered for your setup. Review the widget’s appearance and behavior settings, then place it in the scene where viewers should see chat. Check that it stays legible against the video and does not cover content you need to show.

For basic alerts, use the test dropdown in the Streamlabs dashboard. If you set up alert variations, test the relevant variation through its controls.

In Streamlabs Desktop, open Test Widgets and choose an event type. In the OBS plugin, use its widget test controls.

For a browser source, trigger a dashboard test and check that it appears in the encoder preview and the intended scene.

Repeat the check for each scene where the widget should display.

OBS with the Streamlabs plugin: use the plugin’s Widgets area; remember to add the widget to each scene where it belongs.

Another compatible encoder, or OBS without the plugin: use the dashboard widget URL as a Browser Source and verify it in the preview.
