Wait until the page has loaded, then click the SingleFileZ toolbar button and let it finish processing. If saving drags, disable a couple of costly cleanup options; if you disable frame or deferred-image capture, accept that some content may be missing. SingleFileZ cannot make a page load faster, and its documentation gives no minimum connection speed or guaranteed save time.
Save the page while it is available

Open the webpage while you still have a connection and let its main content and images finish loading. SingleFileZ’s Mozilla add-on listing says to wait until the page is fully loaded before using the toolbar control.

Click the SingleFileZ toolbar button. Leave the browser open while the extension processes and saves the page. Clicking the button again can cancel processing.

When the save completes, open the saved file while still online if possible. Check that the text and images you need are present before relying on it offline.

The toolbar action is the simplest way to save the current page. The add-on’s context menu also offers actions for selected content, a selected frame or link, and groups of tabs. The listing documents Firefox Desktop and Firefox Mobile, including Firefox for Android, and a configurable Ctrl+Shift+Y shortcut; it does not establish support for every browser or device.
Why saving can take a long time
There are two separate waits: the browser has to load the page, and then SingleFileZ has to process it. The extension may retrieve resources that are present but not displayed or already cached, so a slow save can reflect the page’s complexity and resource loading as well as your connection. The project FAQ says the default configuration favors smaller saved pages and notes that some processing options use time and CPU. It does not provide a speed benchmark, minimum bandwidth, or estimate that applies to a particular page.

Reduce processing time, with trade-offs
If the extension is taking too long, open its options and try these adjustments. Change one at a time so you can see which trade-off matters for your page.

HTML content > remove hidden elements: turn this off to reduce processing. The FAQ identifies it as one of the options that can save time and CPU.

Stylesheets > remove unused styles: turn this off for the same reason. This may leave more styling in the saved file rather than removing unused rules.

HTML content > remove frames: disabling frame removal can avoid that processing, but frame content may be absent from the saved page.

The first two options are the lower-risk speed adjustments described by the FAQ. The last two more directly sacrifice completeness. If a particular frame or image matters, keep its capture enabled and allow the extension to finish rather than assuming a faster save is a complete one.

What the saved file can and cannot preserve
SingleFileZ aims to package a webpage and resources such as CSS, images, fonts, and frames into a single HTML/ZIP hybrid file. That is useful for keeping related page assets together, but it is not a guarantee of a perfect offline replica. Pages can depend on dynamically loaded or externally hosted resources; disabling frame or deferred-image capture can omit content; and browser security restrictions can prevent extensions from working on some domains.
The FAQ distinguishes processing in the browser from resource retrieval: it says SingleFileZ does not upload data to third-party servers, while also explaining that saving may download resources from the source page. The Mozilla listing describes Google Drive and GitHub as optional destinations; neither is needed for the basic local-save workflow.
SingleFileZ’s current project status
The SingleFileZ repository says the project has been completely merged into SingleFile. It directs users who want self-extracting files to SingleFile’s options, in the File format section, and says existing settings can be imported. The Mozilla listing still presents the SingleFileZ add-on and identifies version 1.4.45, last updated February 15, 2024. That listing date is context, not proof that the extension is broken. If you are setting this up now, SingleFile’s file-format option is the project-directed route to the corresponding output.
