Shizuku lets compatible apps make selected requests using ADB-level permissions; it does not give you unrestricted root access. On Android 10 and older, Shizuku documents a computer-and-ADB startup route.
What “root-like access” means with Shizuku
Shizuku is a service broker. After you start its service using ADB, compatible apps can send requests to Android system services through it. That can enable selected operations that ordinary apps cannot perform, but the service runs with ADB-level privileges rather than unrestricted root privileges. The permissions available vary by Android version and device build. Shizuku’s introduction and its project documentation explain this distinction.

Android apps normally communicate with system services through Binder, with Android checking permissions. Shizuku forwards compatible app requests to the system server, but it cannot make every protected operation available: hidden APIs have been restricted for ordinary apps since Android 9, and manufacturers can change system behavior. An app must also explicitly support Shizuku.

Choose the setup path for your Android version
| Device and method | What you need to do | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Android 11 or newer: Wireless debugging | Pair Shizuku with the phone’s Wireless debugging pairing-code flow, then start the service. | No computer is required for this route, but you must start the service again after each reboot. |
| Android 10 or older: computer and ADB | Enable USB debugging, connect the phone to a computer, authorize it, and run Shizuku’s startup command. | Requires a computer and a USB data cable; repeat the startup steps after each reboot. |
| Rooted device | Shizuku also supports starting its service with root. | This is not the no-root method covered here. |
These startup routes are documented in the Shizuku setup manual. Android’s ADB documentation describes wireless debugging on Android 11 and newer, as well as USB debugging and device authorization.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Start Shizuku wirelessly on Android 11 or newer
- Enable Developer options. The setting path differs by phone model; consult the device maker’s instructions if you cannot find it.
- Turn on Wireless debugging. Open Developer options and enable Wireless debugging. Keep the phone and any workstation used for the documented pairing workflow on the same wireless network.
- Start pairing in Shizuku. Open Shizuku and choose its pairing option. Then, in the phone’s Wireless debugging settings, select “Pair device with pairing code.”
- Enter the pairing code. Use the code shown by Android in the Shizuku pairing notification. Shizuku describes pairing as a one-time step.
- Start the service. Complete the start action in Shizuku. Pairing does not mean the service will remain running after a reboot.
Android’s wireless-debugging settings also let you remove a paired workstation. Menu wording and placement can vary across Android versions and manufacturers.
Start Shizuku with a computer and USB debugging
- Install Google SDK Platform Tools on the computer, following Google’s ADB instructions.
- Enable USB debugging in Developer options on the phone.
- Connect the phone to the computer with a USB data cable that supports data transfer, not charging alone.
- Approve the debugging prompt on the phone. Android displays an RSA authorization dialog; approve only a computer you trust.
- Run Shizuku’s current startup command. The manual lists
adb shell sh /sdcard/Android/data/moe.shizuku.privileged.api/start.shfor Shizuku v11.2.0 and later. Follow the instructions shown by your installed Shizuku version rather than assuming this command applies indefinitely.
Shizuku’s manual documents the computer route for unrooted Android 10 and older. The ADB command starts the service; it does not permanently root the phone.

Know what can prevent pairing or keep the service running
Manufacturer customizations may require additional settings or interfere with background execution. Shizuku’s troubleshooting guidance gives MIUI, ColorOS, and Flyme as examples, not a complete list of affected devices. Background limits can prevent pairing-service discovery or stop Shizuku after it starts. Check Shizuku’s current setup and troubleshooting instructions for the steps relevant to your phone’s software.

Use debugging access carefully
ADB creates an authorized debugging relationship between the phone and a computer or paired workstation. Approve only devices you trust. When you no longer need the connection, use Android’s Wireless debugging controls to forget a paired workstation, or revoke debugging authorizations in Developer options. Android documents these controls in its ADB guide.

What Shizuku can—and cannot—do without root
- It can: let apps that explicitly support Shizuku request selected system operations within the ADB permissions available on your device.
- It cannot promise: universal access to root-only functions or every protected Android API.
- Success depends on: the Android version and build, manufacturer changes, the permissions Shizuku’s server has, and the specific app and operation.
If a compatible app’s operation fails, Shizuku advises checking whether its server has sufficient permission for the API being invoked. Treat “root-like” as a description of limited, mediated capabilities—not as a replacement for root.
