Install ScreenshotOne’s Python SDK, create a client with your access and secret keys, configure a TakeOptions object, then call client.take(options) and save the returned image stream to a file. The example below captures a 1024 × 768 PNG; use HTTPS for API requests and keep credentials out of source control.
Capture a screenshot with ScreenshotOne’s Python SDK
1. Install the package
Install the SDK in your project environment:
pip install screenshotone2. Add a working capture script
Replace the example URL with the page you want to capture. Supply your account’s access key and secret key through environment variables or your deployment’s secret manager rather than hard-coding them.

Set the two environment variables before running the script. On success, it writes the image bytes to screenshot.png. The documented SDK pattern uses Client, TakeOptions.url(...), and client.take(options); the code is an adaptation of that pattern, not a claim of independent execution. 3. Generate a request URL when needed
If your integration needs a shareable or embeddable capture URL instead of downloading the image through the SDK, use client.generate_take_url(options). Treat generated URLs as sensitive if they contain access credentials or capture inputs.

Choose the capture settings
Input and output
The API accepts a website URL, HTML, or Markdown input; ScreenshotOne’s options documentation says one of those inputs is required. The Python example selects PNG, while the API reference lists JPG as the default image format. The documented formats include PNG, JPEG/JPG, WebP, GIF, JP2, TIFF, AVIF, HEIF, and PDF, as well as HTML and Markdown text responses. Confirm support for less common formats before depending on them. Viewport, element, or full page
viewport_width and viewport_height set the browser’s visible area; the documented default width is 1280 pixels. Specify both values when you need repeatable output. These dimensions emulate a browser viewport, not a physical device.

For a focused capture, use a selector to target an element. ScreenshotOne’s selector guidance recommends selectors over exact clip coordinates when the page structure makes that practical, since selectors are generally more stable. For a full-page capture, account for pages that load content as the user scrolls: the full-page guide describes scrolling-based capture and notes that lazy-loaded content and other edge cases can require adjustments. Wait for the page to be ready
The wait_until option supports events including load, domcontentloaded, networkidle0, and networkidle2. Choose based on the page’s behavior. Network-idle waits can be a poor fit for pages that keep requests open; a load or DOM-content event, or a site-specific delay, may suit those pages better. No single wait condition is right for every site. The options reference also documents controls such as blocking cookie banners and chats; their effect depends on how the target site implements them.

Match localization to the website
Language, timezone, and IP region affect different signals. ScreenshotOne maps Accept-Language to language and locale, time_zone to browser timezone, and ip_country_code or a proxy to IP-based location. Browser geolocation can be supplied separately for sites that use the browser’s geolocation API. Set only the controls the target site relies on. See ScreenshotOne’s localization documentation.

Understand authentication and request options
The underlying /take API supports GET requests with options in the query string and POST requests with options in a JSON body. The access key can be supplied as a query parameter, in the POST body, or in the X-Access-Key header. ScreenshotOne cautions that HTTP does not encrypt credentials or other sensitive values in transit, so use HTTPS. For large HTML or Markdown inputs, prefer POST JSON rather than putting the content in a URL; the documented maximum request body is 100 MiB. See the Getting Started documentation.
Signed requests use a signature derived from request parameters and a signing key. The signature is not the secret key itself. If your account requires signing, follow the SDK or API signing mechanism and never put the raw secret key in the signature field. The options reference covers signing and request parameters.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- Authentication fails: check that the access and secret keys are the correct credentials for the account, that environment variables are present in the running process, and that any required request signature follows ScreenshotOne’s signing method. Do not substitute the secret key for a signature.
- The image is incomplete or blank: verify the target URL and choose a wait condition suited to the page. A page that renders after client-side activity may need a different wait event or a delay; a page with persistent network activity may never reach a network-idle condition.
- Content is missing in a full-page image: if the site lazy-loads content on scroll, tune the full-page behavior and waiting for that target rather than assuming one default capture will load every section.
- The wrong language or regional content appears: determine whether the site selects content from the language header, timezone, IP address, or browser geolocation, then configure the corresponding setting. These controls are separate.
- The request is too large: send large HTML or Markdown input in a JSON POST body instead of a GET URL, and stay within the documented 100 MiB maximum request body.
- A less common output format is rejected: check the current format reference and try a documented common format such as PNG, JPG, or WebP if the target integration allows it.
