To stream a mimoLive production on YouTube, copy the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room into mimoLive, configure and start its streaming output, then—if the broadcast is scheduled—click Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears. Sending video from mimoLive and publishing a scheduled broadcast are separate steps.
Before you start
- A Mac running mimoLive, with your production ready to send.
- A YouTube channel that is enabled for live streaming. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours; after it is enabled, you can start streaming instantly. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the activation and setup process.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen output settings.
- If you are using an external camera, a supported way to bring its video signal into the Mac. Check the current camera, macOS, capture-device, and mimoLive compatibility before buying hardware.
Boinx’s version history listed mimoLive 6.18 as current and 6.19b4 as beta when checked on October 3, 2026. The interface can change; check Boinx’s version history for the latest release and labels before following version-specific directions.

Set up YouTube and connect mimoLive
-
Create or select the YouTube stream
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you have scheduled. Set the stream’s title, visibility, and schedule as needed. Keep the Live Control Room open so you can check its preview and status.

Copy the stream URL and key
Open the stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings. Use the exact URL supplied by YouTube; if you choose RTMPS, use the RTMPS URL rather than assuming the regular RTMP address is interchangeable.

Configure the streaming output in mimoLive
In mimoLive, select the YouTube destination if your version offers one, or configure the streaming output with YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Boinx’s published workflow describes entering the key in the stream settings, but its guide is historical, so follow the current interface and version documentation for exact labels. Verify which protocol and codecs your selected mimoLive output supports before choosing those settings.
-
Choose compatible video and audio settings
Set the output resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate to match YouTube’s current ingest guidance and your available upload bandwidth. Do not choose a bitrate in isolation: the suitable value depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec. YouTube recommends testing at the venue, using representative movement and sound, and checking stream health during the event. The technical settings section below gives a concrete example and links to YouTube’s current table.
-
Start the feed and publish the broadcast
Start the streaming output in mimoLive. For a scheduled broadcast, wait until YouTube’s Live Control Room receives the feed and shows the preview, then click Go live there. This is YouTube’s documented preview-then-publish sequence; it is not enough to start the encoder if the event still awaits manual publication. Auto-start can change that sequence only if the stream settings support it and you have enabled it.

-
Monitor and end the stream
During the event, watch YouTube’s stream health and messages, and verify that both picture and audio are reaching the preview. At the end, end the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop sending content from mimoLive according to your event workflow. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.
Choose encoder settings for YouTube
YouTube’s live encoder settings guide, checked October 3, 2026, lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, with frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. Its stereo audio guidance is AAC or MP3 at 128 kbps with a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Confirm that your mimoLive output supports the protocol and codec you intend to use.
| Example output | YouTube H.264 bitrate guidance | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | These are YouTube’s listed values for this H.264 mode, not a universal target for every resolution, frame rate, or codec. |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | Use YouTube’s full table for other combinations and allow upload headroom beyond the selected video bitrate. |
These figures come from YouTube’s encoder guidance, not a guarantee that a connection with matching measured speed will remain stable. Run an upload-speed test, leave capacity for network variation, and test from the actual venue and at a representative time. A historical Boinx event account described a 2,500 kbps target for that event’s 720p setup; that is an example of an older venue workflow, not a replacement for YouTube’s current recommendations.

Test the full production before the event
- Send a test feed with the same resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate planned for the live event.
- Include representative camera movement, graphics, transitions, and audio; a static picture alone will not reveal every production or bandwidth issue.
- Check the YouTube preview for synchronized sound, a clean picture, and the correct stream. Watch stream-health messages rather than relying on a speed test alone.
- If recording locally is part of your production, verify that the local recording is being created and can be played back.
- Set up in advance and check the preview before the scheduled start. YouTube’s live streaming tips also recommend advance preparation and preview checks.
Camera input and capture devices
If your camera’s output cannot connect directly to the Mac in a way mimoLive supports, you may need a capture device. Boinx’s historical account of a floorball event describes using a Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle with a Panasonic camera, but that example does not establish current compatibility or make it a current model recommendation. Before purchasing, verify the capture device’s connector, macOS support, camera signal compatibility, and support in your mimoLive version. A useful product search is “USB video capture card for Mac.”
Troubleshoot common problems
YouTube does not receive a picture
- Confirm that mimoLive is sending from the intended streaming destination.
- Recheck the copied server URL and stream key against the selected YouTube stream.
- If using RTMPS, make sure the destination uses the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room.
The preview appears, but the event is not public
For a scheduled stream, check whether you have clicked Go live in Live Control Room. Also verify the stream’s visibility and schedule; an incoming encoder feed does not by itself confirm that the scheduled broadcast has been published.
The feed is unstable or drops
Check YouTube’s stream-health messages and test upload capacity under realistic conditions. Reduce bitrate or resolution in line with the current YouTube settings guidance if the connection cannot sustain the chosen output. Retest after changing settings, since the venue connection can vary over time.

You need an RTMP connection log
Boinx’s 6.19b4 beta notes say the Live Streaming output destination makes an RTMP connection log available through Show Log. This is beta-specific behavior as of the October 3, 2026 version check; do not assume the control is present in every stable release. Check Boinx’s version history for current availability.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded video playing on a YouTube channel around the clock, that is a different workflow from sending a live mimoLive camera-and-graphics production. StreamNeo uploads and loops videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a live camera production. Upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteEach slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than separate quality tiers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
Copyright and YouTube channel rules
Before streaming, make sure you have the rights to all video, music, and other material in the production, including material used in a loop or playlist. A live stream being produced in mimoLive does not itself grant permission to use third-party content. Review YouTube’s current policies and the permissions for your specific material before broadcasting; the copyright safety checklist can help you review a planned stream.
