The announced family has two models—the 14.6-inch Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and the 12.6-inch Galaxy Tab S12+—not a plain “Galaxy Tab S12.” Samsung US lists October 7, 2026 as their availability date, so as of October 3 they had been announced but were not yet available. The workflow below reflects Samsung’s published guidance, not hands-on testing.
What DeX can do on the Galaxy Tab S12
Samsung presents DeX as a desktop-like workspace where you can use multiple apps at once, resize their windows, and arrange them for a workflow. That can make a tablet more convenient for tasks such as editing an image while checking notes, reviewing a document alongside a project plan, or keeping references open while drawing. It does not, by itself, establish that a tablet app has all the features of its desktop counterpart.

There is a documentation mismatch to keep in mind: Samsung’s US S12 product page promotes DeX, while Samsung UK’s general DeX compatibility list currently names the Tab S11 and earlier series, but not S12. The omission does not prove that S12 lacks DeX, and the product-page promotion is not a substitute for a model-specific compatibility entry. Check Samsung’s support information for your market as it is updated.

Move the app onto the DeX desktop workspace, following Samsung’s tablet guidance.

Open additional apps and arrange or resize their windows to suit the task. Samsung describes this multi-app workflow on the S12 product page.
Samsung’s general DeX support page says users can have up to four workspaces, with up to five apps open in each. If a sixth app is launched in a workspace, the first app opened there is minimized. Those are general support figures, not a model-specific S12 test; the same page’s compatible-model list has not yet been updated to name S12.

These are Samsung specifications and US launch prices announced in 2026, not independent measurements or a promise of current pricing in other markets. The Ultra’s larger panel may make side-by-side windows easier to work with; that is a practical inference from display size, not a tested performance comparison. The S12+ is lighter and has a lower US launch starting price.
Samsung identifies a Pro Keyboard and a Book Cover Keyboard Slim as optional accessories; its US page describes the Ultra’s Pro Keyboard with a trackpad. A keyboard can make text-heavy work and window management feel more workstation-like, but verify the exact model fit and market availability before buying an accessory for a specific tablet.
Professional apps to consider—and what to verify
Samsung names the following apps and use cases for the S12 series. The launch material does not establish identical Android and desktop features, or app-by-app DeX behavior, so treat these as candidates for a workflow rather than guaranteed desktop replacements.

Samsung also names MyScript Math, MyScript Notes, Noteshelf 3, and ArcSite; it describes ArcSite as a way to turn field sketches into CAD drawings. Those examples indicate possible uses, but Samsung’s announcement does not establish that these apps are optimized specifically for DeX.

Before depending on any app for paid or time-sensitive work, check the features you need in its Android version, its current license or subscription requirements, and how it behaves in DeX. Samsung’s general DeX guidance warns: “Certain apps may not run or require a separate license (for purchase) on Samsung DeX.” This is a general caveat, not an S12-specific compatibility list.

Samsung UK says wireless DeX with TVs works with TVs that support Android smartphone screen mirroring (Miracast), and warns that performance may vary with the TV and Wi-Fi environment. The available Samsung guidance does not confirm S12-specific wired external-display options. Before planning a monitor-based setup, verify the connection method Samsung explicitly supports for the exact S12 model and the display you intend to use.

Performance, battery, and launch claims
Samsung Electronics America’s 2026 launch announcement says the S12 series offers up to 61% faster NPU processing, 19% faster CPU performance, and 17% improved GPU power versus Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. These are Samsung’s manufacturer comparisons, not independent benchmark results; they do not establish how a particular professional app will perform.
Samsung also claims up to 23 hours of battery life for the S12 Ultra and up to 21 hours for the S12+. These are manufacturer-stated test claims, not expected runtimes for every DeX setup or workload. The same launch announcement estimates the bundled professional-app benefits at approximately $445; that is a promotional-value estimate, not cash savings guaranteed to every buyer, and eligibility and terms apply.
