Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsInstall PDFCrowd’s PHP client, keep its username and API key in Laravel configuration, then call convertUrl() and return the resulting bytes with PDF response headers. The example below uses a POST route; the source URL must be reachable by PDFCrowd’s servers.
Install the PDFCrowd PHP client
From your Laravel project directory, install the Composer package:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
composer require pdfcrowd/pdfcrowd
PDFCrowd’s PHP client page lists version 6.6.0; Composer resolves the package version under your project’s dependency constraints. See the PDFCrowd PHP client documentation and its client libraries page.
Store credentials in Laravel configuration
PDFCrowd’s client constructor takes a username and API key. Put them in environment-backed Laravel configuration rather than hard-coding them in a route or committing them to source control. For example, add to .env:

- Convert scanned documents thanks to our new 2022 OCR technology
- Adjustable conversion settings
- No subscription! Lifetime license!
- Compatible with Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7 - Internet connection required
PDFCROWD_USERNAME=your_username
PDFCROWD_API_KEY=your_api_key
Then add a configuration entry, for example in config/services.php:
'pdfcrowd' => [
'username' => env('PDFCROWD_USERNAME'),
'api_key' => env('PDFCROWD_API_KEY'),
],
These Laravel config keys are an integration choice, not a required PDFCrowd naming convention. In deployed environments, use the platform’s secret-management facility where available.
Add a POST route that returns PDF bytes
This minimal example uses a fixed URL to show the conversion flow. It returns the PDF as a download and catches the SDK’s error type without sending diagnostic details or credentials to the caller. Replace the example URL with validated, authorized input appropriate to your application.

use IlluminateSupportFacadesRoute;
Route::post('/pdf', function () {
$url = 'https://example.com';
try {
$client = new PdfcrowdHtmlToPdfClient(
config('services.pdfcrowd.username'),
config('services.pdfcrowd.api_key')
);
$pdf = $client->convertUrl($url);
return response($pdf)
->header('Content-Type', 'application/pdf')
->header('Content-Disposition', 'attachment; filename="document.pdf"')
->header('Cache-Control', 'no-cache')
->header('Accept-Ranges', 'none');
} catch (PdfcrowdError $error) {
report($error);
return response('PDF conversion failed.', 502);
}
});
The PDFCrowd PHP API guide documents convertUrl() and the client error object, including status and reason codes. The vendor’s Laravel example demonstrates returning PDF bytes with response headers. The route, config keys, and generic error message above are illustrative Laravel integration choices.
Choose URL conversion or file output
Return bytes directly
$client->convertUrl($url) returns PDF bytes in memory. This suits a synchronous download response when the conversion finishes within the time your web request can wait.
Write the result to a file
If the application needs a local output file, use convertUrlToFile($url, $path), passing the URL and destination path. Follow your application’s storage permissions and cleanup policy for generated files.

Make sure PDFCrowd can access the source page
For URL conversion, PDFCrowd’s servers must be able to reach both the page and its referenced assets. A URL such as http://localhost points to the converter’s environment, not your development machine, so it cannot serve as an ordinary remote input. For private pages, configure the target site’s access separately using supported credentials, cookies, or headers; the PDFCrowd API username and key authenticate your conversion request, not your login to the source website.
If you generate HTML instead of converting a public URL, relative asset paths need a resolvable base. Use absolute asset URLs or a suitable <base href="https://…">; where appropriate, package assets with the HTML as an archive. PDFCrowd documents URL, HTML and file-related conversion methods and access options in its PHP API guide and examples.
Handle errors, latency, and PDFCrowd’s HTTP API
Log useful diagnostics safely
Catch PdfcrowdError, log it through Laravel’s reporting mechanism, and inspect the SDK error’s status code and reason code when diagnosing failures. Keep raw diagnostics and secrets out of the response returned to an end user.

Move long conversions out of the web request when needed
The SDK call is synchronous in this route: the client waits for conversion before Laravel can return the PDF. If that wait would exceed your application’s latency budget, consider dispatching a Laravel queue job and delivering the finished file through your application’s normal download flow. A queue is an application-side operational choice, not a PDFCrowd requirement.
Use the versioned HTTP endpoint only when you need direct HTTP control
PDFCrowd documents a direct HTTP API endpoint at https://api.pdfcrowd.com/convert/24.04/, using HTTP Basic authentication with the username and API key and returning successful PDF bytes in the response body. When using the PHP SDK, prefer its supported client methods; consult the current client documentation if you deliberately need to select or manage converter versions.

Troubleshoot common integration failures
- Class not found: Confirm Composer installation succeeded and the application’s Composer autoloader is available. Run the install command from the Laravel project root.
- Authentication or API error: Check that both configured values are present and correspond to your PDFCrowd account. Inspect the logged status and reason code rather than exposing the error response publicly.
- The resulting PDF is empty or the URL fails: Confirm the source and assets are publicly reachable from PDFCrowd’s servers. A local development URL or an IP-restricted page will not behave like a public page.
- Private page renders as a login screen: The API key does not grant access to the page being converted. Configure the target site’s authentication through supported source-page credentials, cookies, or headers.
- Relative images or styles are missing: Give generated HTML a resolvable base URL or use absolute asset paths; ensure assets are reachable by the converter.
- Laravel request times out: A synchronous conversion may outlast the web request’s limits. Check application and hosting timeouts, and use a queued workflow for longer jobs if necessary.
- Browser displays PDF instead of downloading: Change the
Content-Dispositionvalue fromattachmenttoinlineif inline viewing is intended; retainapplication/pdfas the content type.
Or skip the browser setup
If your actual goal is a website screenshot rather than a PDF document, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed, and an MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots.
Example cURL request for a PDF output:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -d format=pdf -o page.pdf
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request parameters and setup. Its free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can PDFCrowd convert a Laravel page that only exists on localhost?
Not through ordinary URL conversion: the converter’s servers cannot reach your machine’s localhost. Provide reachable HTML or make the page accessible to the conversion service.
Does PDFCrowd’s API key authenticate me to a private page being converted?
No. The API key authenticates the conversion request. Access to the source page must be configured separately.
