First check the exact model and generation of both speakers: Bose has several linking systems, and not every pair can connect. Party Mode plays the same audio on both speakers; Stereo Mode assigns separate left and right channels. The right pairing steps depend on whether you have legacy Bose Connect-compatible speakers, newer Speaker Link models, or SoundLink Home speakers.
Check whether your Bose speakers are compatible
Find each speaker’s full model name and generation before trying to link them. Bose’s compatible-model lists differ by system, and a pair that supports Party Mode may not support Stereo Mode.

| Speaker system | Models Bose lists | Supported pairing modes |
|---|---|---|
| Legacy Bose Connect-compatible models | SoundLink Flex, SoundLink Micro, SoundLink Color II, SoundLink Revolve (series I and II), and SoundLink Revolve+ (series I and II) for Party Mode. For Stereo Mode, Bose lists SoundLink Flex, SoundLink Micro, SoundLink Color II, SoundLink Revolve II, and SoundLink Revolve+ II. | Party Mode for the listed models; Stereo Mode only for the narrower list. Bose’s lists distinguish the original Revolve and Revolve+ from their II versions. Bose’s compatibility and pairing instructions |
| Current shortcut-button / Speaker Link models | SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen), SoundLink Max Portable Speaker, SoundLink Micro Portable Speaker (2nd Gen), and SoundLink Plus Portable Speaker. | Party Mode may work between compatible mixed models; Stereo Mode requires two of the same model. Bose cautions on the SoundLink Plus page that mixed models may offer Party Mode only. Bose Speaker Link support and product information |
| SoundLink Home | Two SoundLink Home speakers only. | Stereo Mode only; it does not pair with other Bose Bluetooth speaker models. Bose SoundLink Home instructions |
These are distinct from Bose SimpleSync, which groups selected Bose smart speakers or soundbars with one compatible Bluetooth product. SimpleSync is not the portable-speaker Party/Stereo system; Bose notes that a soundbar SimpleSync connection may have a slight audio delay when watching video.
Choose Party Mode or Stereo Mode
- Party Mode: both linked speakers play the same audio in unison.
- Stereo Mode: the speakers handle separate left and right audio channels. It is available only for model combinations Bose specifies.
If you want to use two different models, check the exact compatibility list above rather than assuming Stereo Mode will be available. On current Speaker Link models, Bose requires a same-model pair for Stereo Mode.

Pair legacy Bose Connect-compatible speakers
Use these manual steps only with the named Bose Connect-compatible families in Bose’s list. They are not a universal button sequence for every Bose speaker.
- Turn on both speakers and connect one of them to your phone.
- On the connected speaker, press and hold Bluetooth and volume up (+) together. Release them when it says, “Press the Bluetooth and volume down buttons simultaneously on a second Bose device.”
- On the second speaker, press and hold Bluetooth and volume down (–) together. Release when the speaker emits a tone.
- Wait about 10 seconds. Both speakers announce Party Mode, and the audio plays in unison.
- To switch to Stereo Mode, press and hold Bluetooth and volume up (+) on either linked speaker until it announces “Stereo Mode.” Repeat the step to switch back to Party Mode.
Bose describes the Bose Connect app as the primary method for these compatible products; the button sequence is the documented manual alternative. See Bose’s instructions for the supported models.

Link current shortcut-button speakers with Speaker Link
For SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen), SoundLink Max, SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen), and SoundLink Plus, use the shortcut button or Bose app/Speaker Link—not the legacy button sequence above. Bose says the shortcut button is configured for linking when new on the SoundLink Plus.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Link the compatible speakers using the shortcut button or Bose app, following the instructions for your specific model.
- Once linked, press the shortcut button once to toggle modes, or open Bose app > speaker group > Speaker Link and use the Stereo (L/R) switch.
Stereo Mode requires two speakers of the same model in this system. The Bose instructions cited here give these mode-switch controls, but not one complete initial-link sequence applicable to every model; use the instructions for your specific speaker rather than transferring the legacy gesture. - Connect a device or USB audio source to one speaker. This becomes the primary speaker.
- On the primary speaker, press and hold Bluetooth and volume up (+) until Bose prompts you to press Bluetooth and volume down on a second Bose device.
- On the second speaker, press and hold Bluetooth and volume down (–) until it emits a tone.
- Wait for the speakers to announce “Stereo Mode,” then “Left” on the primary speaker and “Right” on the secondary.
SoundLink Home cannot pair with other Bose speaker models and does not provide Party Mode. Bose SoundLink Home instructions

If pairing does not work
- Confirm both full model names and generations. Bose’s supported lists vary by product family; an original Revolve or Revolve+ is not listed for Stereo Mode in the legacy system.
- Use the controls for the right system. The Bluetooth-plus-volume sequence above is documented for the named legacy models and SoundLink Home, not as a universal Bose shortcut.
- Check whether the mode fits the pair. Compatible mixed current Speaker Link models may support Party Mode, but Stereo Mode requires matching models; SoundLink Home also requires a matching SoundLink Home.
- Do not try to substitute SimpleSync. It is a separate feature for selected Bose smart speakers or soundbars and a compatible Bluetooth product.
