What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
You can’t add a browser-source overlay directly from an Xbox. To put overlays on an Xbox broadcast, either send the console stream through a supported cloud studio that composites the graphics, or route the Xbox’s HDMI output through a capture card to a PC running OBS or similar software. A capture card is optional: it is needed for the PC-capture workflow, not for every overlay setup.
Choose how you want to add overlays
The Xbox itself does not load browser sources. A cloud studio can add graphics to a console broadcast before it reaches the streaming destination; a PC workflow composites the Xbox picture and overlay sources in broadcast software. The cloud route avoids capture hardware, while the PC route gives you control over scenes and sources from the computer.

| Route | Best suited to | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud studio, such as Streamlabs or Lightstream | Adding overlays without a capture card or streaming PC | A supported console-to-service route, a browser for setup, and usually a second device for controls or chat. Product names, destinations, features, and eligibility can change; verify the current provider instructions. |
| Capture card and PC software | More control over scenes, sources, and PC-based production | An Xbox, compatible HDMI capture card, PC, HDMI connections, and OBS or similar broadcast software. |
| Xbox-to-PC Companion app route | Trying PC broadcast software without buying capture hardware | A compatible Xbox and Windows setup using the Companion app window as the gameplay-capture source. Compatibility depends on the setup. |
Before choosing, consider the broadcast destination you need, hardware cost, setup complexity, scene control, compatibility, and whether you can manage chat on another device. The cited provider guides do not establish a current, universal price comparison.

Build and preview the overlay
- Open the selected provider’s web studio on a phone, tablet, or computer and create a project or scene.
- Choose a theme, then place and resize the components you want, such as text, alerts, chat, or a webcam. Preview the composition before going live.
- Keep a separate device available for chat and controls. In Streamlabs’ documented Studio workflow, chat and alerts do not appear on the television screen.
Streamlabs’ April 25, 2025 guide, “Getting Started Guide: Streamlabs Studio for Streaming from Xbox to Twitch,” describes setting up an overlay, project, scenes, and components in a browser, then authenticating Twitch in the Twitch app on Xbox and using its Broadcast option. It describes using the Studio site on another device to confirm the stream and control scenes.

Check which Streamlabs console workflow applies
Do not combine instructions from different Streamlabs products as if they were one route. A separate Streamlabs update published June 13, 2026 says to enable cloud broadcasting and select Streamlabs under Capture and Share > Live streaming > More options. That update says the Twitch Xbox app is viewer-only for this route. Check the current Xbox menu and the guide for the exact Streamlabs product you are using; menu names and service workflows may change.
Lightstream and other cloud routes
Xsolla’s overlay documentation describes sending a console stream to Lightstream, adding an overlay in its web editor, and sending the combined stream to Twitch. It also describes PC capture as an alternative. Confirm that the console destination and any required plan are currently available before following this route; the documentation does not establish current account steps or plan eligibility.

Set up overlays with a capture card and OBS
Connect the Xbox and capture card
- Connect the Xbox HDMI output to a compatible capture card.
- Connect the capture card to the PC. Before buying hardware, confirm Xbox and PC compatibility and that the card supports the resolution, refresh rate, and passthrough you intend to use.
- Open OBS or other broadcast software and add the card as a video-capture source.
Add and arrange overlay sources
- Add a hosted overlay URL as a browser source, or add the image, video, text, or alert sources supported by your chosen software.
- Arrange the gameplay and overlay sources in the scene. Resize and position them, then preview the composition before streaming from the PC software.
Xsolla’s documentation describes copying an overlay URL into an OBS Browser source. It gives a default overlay canvas of 1920 × 1080 pixels and says to match the browser-source width and height to the overlay. That is an editor default—not a required Xbox broadcast resolution. Match the canvas and source dimensions to your actual scene so the overlay is not unexpectedly cropped or scaled.

Choose overlay components and check the composition
Depending on the service and route, overlays can include scenes, alerts, text, chat, and webcam elements. Xsolla’s editor documentation also describes text and labels, image and video layers, alerts, and browser-source integration. Component availability depends on the service and how the stream is routed; do not assume every component works in every console workflow.
- Preview the full scene to check that graphics do not cover important gameplay information.
- Check text and graphics at the output size you plan to use, not only in the editor.
- Confirm that alerts, chat, and webcam elements are supported by the selected service and broadcast route.
Common problems and what to check
- The Xbox stream has no overlay. The console cannot load browser sources itself. Confirm that you are using a cloud studio that receives and composites the broadcast, or that the Xbox picture and overlay sources are both included in the PC software scene.
- The cloud studio does not show or control the broadcast. Check that the Xbox is using the correct service route and account authentication for the specific Streamlabs product. The 2025 Studio guide and 2026 Console update describe different workflows; follow the matching current guide rather than mixing their steps.
- The overlay is cropped, stretched, or misplaced. Compare the overlay canvas dimensions with the scene and browser-source dimensions. Xsolla’s 1920 × 1080 default is not a universal output requirement.
- The capture card is missing from the PC software. Recheck the HDMI path, the card’s PC connection, and whether the software has the card selected as a video-capture source. Confirm compatibility with the card’s manufacturer before buying or troubleshooting a specific model.
- The Companion app method does not capture gameplay. This route is compatibility-dependent. Check whether your Xbox, Windows version, game, and connection support the setup; the published guide does not promise that it works universally.
The cited guides describe setup mechanics but provide no measured latency, image-quality comparison, or reliability test for these routes. Choose based on the controls and hardware you need rather than assuming one method has a proven performance advantage.

StreamNeo is a different use case: it keeps a YouTube channel live by looping videos you upload; it does not capture Xbox gameplay or add overlays to a live Xbox camera or game broadcast, and it streams to YouTube only. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; if YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers.
