To review a Teams meeting, open its meeting chat or past Calendar event and select Recap or View recap. For AI-generated summaries after the meeting, make sure transcription is enabled: Microsoft says the event must be at least five minutes long and transcribed in a supported language. Intelligent text recaps require Microsoft Copilot or Teams Premium; audio and video recaps require Copilot.
Find a meeting recap and notes
- Open the meeting chat after the event, then select Recap or View recap.
- Alternatively, open the past meeting in Calendar and select View recap.
What appears depends on the meeting and your permissions. A recap may include a recording, transcript, shared files, notes, a custom summary, agenda, or follow-up tasks. See Microsoft’s Recap in Microsoft Teams.

Enable transcription for an AI summary after the meeting
Microsoft’s Recap guidance states that an AI summary requires a meeting of at least five minutes with a transcript in a supported language. Microsoft recommends recording and transcribing for the best recap experience. If neither transcription nor recording was enabled, post-meeting Copilot in Recap will not be available. Check your organization’s meeting settings and policies if the transcription option is missing or unavailable.

Microsoft warns that it can be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate. Verify decisions, names, and assigned tasks against the transcript or recording before sharing or acting on them.

Take collaborative notes during a meeting
Use Notes during the meeting to add an agenda, notes, or tasks. Microsoft’s guide says notes save automatically and can be edited afterward from Calendar or Recap. They are shared meeting material, not private AI output: changes may be visible to everyone invited. Instructions are in Microsoft’s Take meeting notes in Microsoft Teams.
Use Copilot live without recording or transcription
If you need Copilot during a scheduled meeting but do not want a transcript or recording, the organizer can choose Only during the meeting in the event’s meeting options and apply the setting. During the meeting, select Copilot and turn it on. Microsoft says this mode can generate notes and tasks without recording or transcription.

See Use Copilot without transcribing or recording.

- Open the meeting chat and select Recap.
- Select Custom summary.
- Choose a template, or create one by giving the AI instructions or an example.
A useful template asks for decisions, unresolved questions, owners, and due dates. Microsoft says a recurring meeting remembers the template for future occurrences. The meeting still needs a transcript for its AI summary to be available. Review the generated result before circulating it. See Microsoft’s Customize recap summaries in Microsoft Teams.
