You can run a quiz-style interaction during a YouTube live stream with the platform’s native live poll: ask a question, let viewers choose an answer in chat, end the poll to reveal the results, then discuss the answer on stream. YouTube calls this feature a poll, not a scored quiz. For follow-up discussion, use Live Q&A to collect viewer questions and select one to pin in chat.
What a YouTube live quiz can—and cannot—do
A YouTube live poll is a simple way to ask viewers to make a choice during a live stream or Premiere. You can use it as a quiz-style prompt, but the native feature is not a scored quiz system. The poll collects choices and shows results when you end it; you provide the explanation and any scoring yourself.

YouTube recommends polls for letting viewers choose what the creator does next, and Live Q&A for selecting audience questions. Turning those features into a knowledge check is a practical hosting approach, not a format YouTube prescribes or a measured engagement formula. YouTube’s guidance offers qualitative reasons to involve viewers, but no quantified evidence that quizzes increase watch time, chat volume, retention, or channel growth. On a computer
- Schedule or start your YouTube live stream or Premiere, then open its live chat.
- At the bottom of chat, select Create a poll and enter your poll.
- When you are ready to reveal the results, select End poll in the banner at the top of chat.
- Read or summarize the result, then explain the answer aloud if you are using the poll as a quiz question. Explaining the answer is a useful hosting choice, not a required YouTube step.
For a follow-up discussion, select Add → Start a Q&A, enter a prompt, and start the Q&A. Choose a viewer question from the Questions list and pin it so viewers can follow the discussion. Live Q&A is a separate interaction feature, not a scored quiz. See Use live chat during your live stream or Premiere – Computer.

YouTube’s Android instructions also describe Q&A stickers and countdown stickers for vertical live streams. The surfaced mobile help page says countdown stickers can be set for up to 60 minutes; check the current app and account for availability before planning around these options. See Use Live Chat during your live stream or Premiere – Android.
Plan quiz questions that fit the stream
Make the poll an interaction beat that belongs in the program, rather than a detached interruption. A question can check recall, invite a prediction, or let viewers choose what you cover next. State clearly what viewers should do, acknowledge participation, and use the result to inform your next point or activity. YouTube recommends audience-choice polls, community rituals, and chat moderation; adapting those ideas into a quiz is editorial practice, not a guaranteed engagement tactic.

Choose a streaming setup that supports your format
YouTube identifies mobile, webcam, and encoder as ways to stream. They are different production routes, not a ranking of which is best for hosting a quiz. A webcam is relevant only if you choose the computer webcam route; a mobile stream or an encoder may suit a different setup. YouTube’s computer live-stream tips say that you need a verified channel and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to go live. See YouTube live streaming tips – Computer.
Polls and Live Q&A are managed through live chat. Viewers can access live chat on watch pages, but settings and viewing context can limit what they see; do not assume that every viewer in an embedded or restricted context has identical chat options. See Learn about live streams.

Native YouTube polls or external quiz tools?
For a straightforward question-and-results moment, the built-in poll keeps the interaction in YouTube chat. External tooling may suit a different production workflow, but features, cost, accessibility, moderation, and reliability depend on the specific tool. YouTube’s tool directory mentions categories such as overlays, chatbots, streaming software, clipping, tipping, and API-based custom tools; it does not establish the current capabilities or price of any particular quiz vendor. YouTube also notes that listed third-party tools are not made or endorsed by Google. See Gaming and Live Streaming Tools & Services.
Troubleshoot common quiz-stream problems
- You cannot find Create a poll: Confirm that you are in the live chat for a live stream or Premiere and check the current app or desktop interface. Feature availability and menus can change; the cited instructions cover computer and Android paths.
- Viewers say they cannot participate: Check chat settings and consider whether viewers are watching in an embedded or otherwise restricted context. Chat access is not identical in every viewing situation.
- The result is not visible yet: End the poll using the chat banner. The result reveal is tied to ending the poll, not to a separate scored-quiz setting.
- Questions get lost in chat: Start Live Q&A and select a viewer question from the Questions list; pin it to make the selected question easier to follow.
- You are unable to go live: Check that the channel is verified and that it has not had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, as specified in YouTube’s computer live-stream guidance.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your quiz is part of a recurring YouTube live format built from recorded material, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping on YouTube from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not broadcast from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
