Yes—supported IKEA smart lights can pair directly with a Philips Hue Bridge if their software is version 1.2.x or later. The simplest route is to reset the light, place it near the bridge, and search for it in the Hue app. For broader cross-platform control, you can instead connect the brands through an IKEA hub, Matter, or Home Assistant, but those routes are not the same as adding an IKEA bulb directly to Hue.
What “working with Hue” means
IKEA says its smart lighting uses Zigbee Light Link and is compatible with other Zigbee-certified products. It documents pairing supported IKEA lights directly with a Philips Hue Bridge, subject to the light’s software version. That establishes a supported pairing path—not a guarantee that every IKEA model will offer every Hue feature. IKEA’s compatibility FAQ explains the protocol basis; IKEA’s Hue pairing instructions give the setup steps.

1. Pair the IKEA light directly with your Hue Bridge
Choose this if you already have a Hue Bridge and want the IKEA light available through the Hue system. IKEA’s documented condition is software version 1.2.x or later.

- Check the light’s software version. If it is older than 1.2.x, IKEA says to update it using an IKEA gateway and the IKEA Home smart app before attempting Hue pairing.
- Reset the light. Toggle its main switch off and on six times, following IKEA’s pairing procedure.
- Place it near the Hue Bridge. Keep the light close while pairing so the bridge can discover it.
- Search in the Hue app. Start the app’s new-device search and wait for discovery to complete.
This route does not require buying an IKEA hub if the light already meets the version requirement and you have a Hue Bridge. IKEA documents the procedure, but does not promise identical Hue controls for every bulb model.

2. Use DIRIGERA and Matter for broader platform control
IKEA describes DIRIGERA as a Matter Bridge. This can help bring IKEA devices into a Matter-capable home platform, but it should not be treated as a direct method for adding a bulb to the Hue app. The actual controls available depend on the platform and device support; Matter may expose basic controls without vendor-specific features.
Home Assistant documents DIRIGERA integration through Matter or HomeKit, while Philips Hue documents Matter support for Hue products connected through a Bridge. Check the current compatibility of your specific hub and platform before building around this route: Home Assistant’s IKEA integration and Philips Hue’s Matter information.

3. Coordinate both systems with Home Assistant
If your goal is coordinated automations rather than controlling every light in one manufacturer’s app, Home Assistant can connect to Hue and an IKEA gateway through documented integrations. You can then create automations across devices connected to the separate systems. This adds another platform to configure and maintain, and documented integrations do not certify every possible bulb, gateway, and firmware combination.
Home Assistant distinguishes its Hue integration from basic Matter control: the Hue integration can provide Hue-specific functions, while Matter controls are more basic. See the Home Assistant Hue integration and the Home Assistant IKEA integration for the documented options.

4. Keep each brand on its native hub and choose a coordination layer
Keeping IKEA lights and Hue lights on their respective documented systems is a sensible choice when you want to preserve native controls or Hue-specific functions. You can then use a supported Matter-capable platform or Home Assistant to coordinate them, rather than trying to make one brand’s hub handle every device.
Home Assistant describes Matter as offering basic light control, while its official Hue integration is the route for Hue-specific features such as dynamic scenes and entertainment mode. Philips Hue says Hue products connected through its Bridge work with Matter. The right arrangement depends on which controls matter to you and on current support for your hubs and devices. See Home Assistant’s Matter integration and Philips Hue’s Matter information.

Which route should you choose?
| Your situation | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You have a Hue Bridge, want the IKEA light in Hue, and the light is on software 1.2.x or later. | Pair the light directly with the Hue Bridge. | Pairing is documented, but feature parity is not guaranteed for every IKEA model. |
| Your IKEA light is on older software. | Update it with an IKEA gateway and IKEA Home smart app, then try direct Hue pairing. | You need access to the IKEA gateway for the update. |
| You want broader platform interoperability. | Consider DIRIGERA with Matter or another supported Matter-capable platform. | This is an ecosystem integration, not a documented direct route into the Hue app. |
| You want cross-brand automations and can manage an additional platform. | Use Home Assistant with the relevant Hue and IKEA integrations. | Setup is more involved, and specific device combinations are not universally certified. |
| You want to retain native controls or Hue-specific features. | Keep the brands on their respective systems and coordinate them through a supported Matter or Home Assistant setup. | Available features depend on the chosen integration and current device support. |
