Google Lens can help you find products like the ones in a photo, on a webpage, or in a supported video. Open Lens, select or capture the item, narrow the search to the product itself, then treat the results as leads: check the retailer listing for the exact model, price, seller, and terms before buying.
Search for a product in front of you or in a saved photo
On Android, Google documents this route through either the Google app or Chrome:

- Open the Google app or Chrome and tap the Lens icon in the search bar.
- Take a photo of the product, or choose an existing image from your device.
- If the image includes other objects, select the product or a tighter area around it.
- Review the matches. Add a word such as the product type, color, or material to refine the search.
Google’s Lens help recommends selecting a smaller area for more specific results. The exact entry point can differ across devices and apps.
Search from a webpage or computer
On a computer
Google Search lets you upload an image, drag and drop one into search, or search using an image URL. In Chrome, right-click an image on a webpage and choose Search with Google Lens. You can also add a description to the search to specify what you want to find.

On Android Chrome
Touch and hold an image on a webpage, then choose Search image with Google Lens. For this Chrome webpage-search flow, Google says Lens may use a screenshot and page data to identify objects. That material is temporarily stored to process the specific query; Google says it is not used for training as a result of this use. This disclosure is about webpage content search in Chrome, not a blanket statement about every Lens search or data use. Details are in Chrome Help.

Make visual matches more useful
Start with a tight selection around the item. A wide image can include background objects or several products, which may lead to less relevant matches. Then add the attribute that matters: for example, search a sofa image with “brown” or “velvet,” or add “chair” if you want a different form factor. For clothing and accessories, try the item name, color, style, or material.
Google’s October 2024 shopping announcement describes Lens results that can include retailer prices, deals, product reviews, and places to buy when those details are available. These richer shopping details rolled out to Android and iOS in select countries, initially for categories including toys, electronics, and beauty; cards and inventory may vary by country, device, app, and rollout. Google’s announcement also reported nearly 20 billion Lens visual searches per month and said 20% of those searches were shopping-related. Those are company-published figures from October 3, 2024; the cited passage does not give a measurement methodology.

Check the listing before you buy
A close visual match is not proof that a listing is the exact same model or that the seller is reliable. Open the retailer’s own product page and compare the details that affect whether the item is right for you:

Google’s shopping information can help you shortlist options, but retailer details can change and listings that look alike may differ in features or condition. Google’s Lens shopping tips also describe using Lens to compare product details while shopping in stores.

Check whether shopping results are available in your country
Google’s current Android Search Help lists Lens shopping results in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the UAE, the UK, and the US. Availability can change, so consult Google’s regional Lens help for the current list. A country’s inclusion does not mean every search will show shopping cards or the same retailers.
Review Lens visual-search history settings
Google account activity settings and Chrome webpage processing are separate matters. Google says that if you do not want Web & App Activity to save images used with Lens, you can turn off Include Visual Search History. Its Search Services History help also says Lens images may be saved when history is on and Save media is checked. Review the controls and their current state in your own account; changing one setting should not be treated as a claim that every form of image processing is disabled.
