Gemini can work across Android apps in two different ways: through Connected Apps, which you authorize to work with supported services, or through screen automation, a limited beta that interacts with selected app screens on eligible phones. Start with a Connected App when it supports the task; use screen automation only if Gemini offers it and your phone, account, location, and language qualify. In either case, review what Gemini proposes and any important action before it is completed.
Choose how Gemini should handle the task
Connected Apps and screen automation are separate features, with different permissions and availability. Connected Apps let Gemini work with services you have connected. Screen automation instead uses an on-device virtual phone environment to open and interact with selected app screens for a multi-step task. Neither route means Gemini can control every app installed on an Android phone.

Google describes Connected Apps as a way to take actions in other apps with your permission. Screen automation is a separate beta, not a replacement for those connections. See Google’s Connected Apps overview and screen-automation requirements for the supported services and current limits.

Check whether your phone and account qualify for screen automation
As listed by Google on October 4, 2026, screen automation is available on Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL, and on Samsung Galaxy S26 Series, Z Flip 8, and Z Fold 8 devices. The feature is for users aged 18 or older who are in the United States or Korea; Pixel 10 devices are not supported in Korea. You must be signed in to a personal Google Account. Work, school, and supervised accounts are excluded.

The beta is currently limited to English and Korean, selected apps, and a gradual rollout. The supported-device and availability list can change; check Google’s current requirements if screen automation is not offered on your phone.
Use Gemini to complete a task
Start with a specific request
Open or activate Gemini on your Android phone and describe the outcome you want, including useful details such as a destination, item, date, or contact. Examples include “Book a ride to the airport,” “Add milk and eggs to my grocery cart,” “What are my upcoming tasks?” or “Send a WhatsApp message to [contact name].” If the request can be handled by a Connected App, specify the destination when that helps—for example, use @Google Tasks or @Samsung Reminder for a reminder.

Answer questions and review the plan
Gemini may ask for missing details or, during screen automation, show a proposed plan. Check that the app, recipient, destination, quantity, date, and other consequential details are right before allowing the task to proceed. Follow any first-use or app-specific prompts, including a request to allow the Google app’s screen-automation permission.
Stay involved through completion
Screen automation can continue working in the background. You can check its progress and stop the task. Gemini may ask you to take over for steps such as signing in, entering payment details, or confirming a transaction. Control-taking options vary by model; Google says users on Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 devices cannot currently take over tasks. Complete any requested final confirmation yourself, and verify the result in the relevant app.

Examples of tasks Gemini can help with
Tasks and reminders
Gemini can add, show, and update Google Tasks or Samsung Reminder entries when the relevant service and requirements are in place. Google Tasks requires Google Workspace to be connected to Gemini and Keep Activity to be on. Samsung Reminder requires the Gemini mobile app, Samsung Reminder installed, and a Galaxy S25 or later or select Samsung devices running One UI 7 or later. If more than one task app is connected, Gemini uses the last one used by default unless you name the destination. Google lists these details in its tasks and reminders guidance.
WhatsApp messages and calls
The Gemini Android mobile app can make calls and send messages through WhatsApp; say @WhatsApp to select it explicitly. Connecting WhatsApp does not let Gemini read or summarize your WhatsApp message history, or send or read message media such as images, GIFs, audio, or video. Reading or replying to messages from notifications uses Device assistance, not the WhatsApp connection. WhatsApp data is handled under WhatsApp’s own privacy policy. Other connected services
Depending on the available connection and your settings, Connected Apps may help with Gmail, calendar events, productivity apps, media, calls or messages, shopping, reservations, and supported device controls. These are examples of possible integrations, not a promise that every action is available to every user. Check the Connected Apps overview for the services and actions Google currently documents.
Understand the limits and risks before you hand off a task
Screen automation is in beta. Google warns that Gemini can misunderstand a request or app, tap the wrong item, add the wrong quantity, make an unintended purchase, or incorrectly report that a task is complete. It advises against using screen automation for emergencies or sensitive tasks, and says not to enter passwords, payment details, or other sensitive information directly in chat.

Google describes handoffs or confirmation prompts for signing in, creating accounts, entering passwords or payment details, finalizing transactions, sending some communications, and changing details such as a delivery address. These safeguards do not remove every risk. You remain responsible for the actions taken, so monitor consequential tasks and check the result in the app rather than relying only on Gemini’s completion message. Google’s guidance says: “Gemini is still learning and can make mistakes, so avoid using screen automation for emergencies or tasks involving sensitive information.”
Manage permissions and privacy
For screen automation, the per-app permission choices are Always allow, Ask every time, and Do not allow. Choose the level of access that suits the task. Google also describes daily request and simultaneous-task limits; it does not publish a universal quota, and says Gemini will indicate remaining monthly requests when you approach a limit.
When you use Gemini with Connected Apps, information that may be exchanged includes chat content, device and preference information, location, and content from connected apps. You can disconnect apps and manage Gemini activity, but deleting Gemini activity does not delete data already received by another app. Third-party apps handle information they receive under their own policies.
