Firefox’s tab-based Split View is a desktop feature, not a mobile Firefox mode. On desktop, Firefox 149 and later can show two tabs side by side in one window. On iPad, Firefox offers a separate multiple-window option; on Android phones, the operating system can put Firefox beside another app, but that is not the same as showing two Firefox pages together.
Use Firefox Split View on desktop
Mozilla introduced Firefox Split View beginning with Firefox 149, with availability starting March 24, 2026. It places two tabs beside each other in one Firefox window. Update Firefox to the latest version, then use either of these methods:

- Start with one tab: Right-click the tab and choose Add Split View. Choose another open tab for the right pane or enter a web address there.
- Combine two open tabs: Select both tabs, right-click the selection, and choose Open in Split View.
Mozilla’s support guidance notes that tab groups can affect where a split is created. Find in Page searches only the active pane. Mozilla’s documentation describes two tabs in one window; it does not establish that the panes scroll together or behave as independent browser windows. Firefox on iPad: open another Firefox window
Firefox for iPad supports multiple windows, a different mechanism from desktop’s two-tab Split View. Mozilla says this has been supported since Firefox version 128. To open a second window:

- Open Firefox on the iPad.
- Tap the three-dot menu at the top center of the app window.
- Choose Add Another Window.
- Use iPad’s window controls to position or resize the Firefox windows.
Mozilla says standard and Private browsing modes are supported in each window. See Mozilla Support’s iPad multiple-window instructions for the documented steps.
Firefox on Android: use Android split-screen for two apps
Android split-screen is an operating-system feature. It can place Firefox alongside a second app, such as a notes app; it does not put two Firefox webpages side by side within one Firefox window. The general route in Android’s developer guidance is:

- Open the Recents screen.
- Bring the app you want to use into view.
- Tap its title-bar icon and choose Split screen.
- Select a second app.
Android’s labels and controls can vary by version and device manufacturer. If those steps do not match your phone, consult the device maker’s current instructions. The Android guidance describes system multitasking, not a Firefox-specific two-page layout: Android’s split-screen documentation.

Do not assume that an operating system’s split-screen feature is a browser feature. To decide whether a browser can display two webpages together, check current documentation for that browser and your specific device. Look for the mechanism it describes:

- Two tabs in one browser window: A browser-provided webpage layout, as documented for Firefox desktop.
- Multiple browser windows: Separate windows that the device can position together, as in Firefox on iPad.
- Two operating-system app windows: Multitasking that can show a browser and another app, as on Android.
Current documentation in the sources linked here does not establish a browser-by-browser comparison of two-webpage split views on mobile. Verify a named browser’s current support pages before relying on a specific feature or set of steps.
