To change text styles in an Instagram Story or Reel, add text in the editor and choose one of the styles available there. For a bio or caption, Instagram does not provide the same font picker; the common workaround is to paste Unicode characters that look like styled letters. Those characters are not a new font, and they can be harder to read, so keep essential information in ordinary text.
Choose the method for where your text will appear

Change text style in a Story or Reel
- Start creating a Story or Reel and add text using the text control, commonly marked Aa.
- Type your wording, then open the style or font selector shown in the editor.
- Browse the available choices and select a style. Meta announced six new text fonts and styles for Reels in November 2023, with optional outlines; that announcement does not guarantee the same list appears for every account today. Read Meta’s announcement.
- Preview the text against the actual background. Use an outline or another contrast treatment if the lettering is difficult to read.
Instagram Sans in Stories
Meta’s design article documents Instagram Sans in Regular, Headline, and Condensed styles for creating in Stories. It describes legibility and accessibility as design goals, but does not promise a fixed set of styles in every current text tool. See Meta’s Instagram Sans article.

Use stylized characters in a bio or caption
- Type the wording into a Unicode-style text generator.
- Choose a restrained option and copy the result.
- Paste it into the Instagram bio or caption field and preview how it appears.
- Keep your name, keywords, contact details, and other essential information in standard characters.
These generators produce Unicode characters that resemble different letter styles. They do not supply a font file or change the typeface used by Instagram. Unicode says mathematical alphanumeric symbols are intended for mathematical or technical notation, rather than nontechnical text. That is a reason to use decorative alternatives sparingly, particularly when a generator uses those symbols. Unicode Standard, Chapter 22.

A third-party guide raises a further accessibility concern: screen readers may announce the Unicode names of stylized characters instead of reading a word as ordinary text. This is not a claim established by Instagram or an accessibility authority here, but it is another reason to leave important information in standard text. SocialRails guide.

Find Indian-script fonts in Meta Edits
Meta’s January 2026 update described Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese script fonts in the Edits app for languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Assamese. The documented workflow is:
- Open the project’s editing timeline and select Text.
- Tap the Aa icon to view fonts.
- If the fonts do not appear automatically, open All fonts and use the language filter.
The announcement said the Android update would roll out in the coming days; it is not a guarantee of current availability on every platform or device. Check the app’s current options. Meta’s Edits update.

When to use an external editor
If you need a specific brand typeface in a finished graphic or video, add the text in an external design or video editor and upload the exported media. Unlike text typed into Instagram, that lettering is part of the image or video and cannot be edited as a native Instagram text element. Verify the editor’s current font and export options before relying on a particular feature.
