Its rotating gimbal, optical zoom and automatic setup tools make placement easier, but they do not replace lens shift; its 240Hz gaming mode is for 1080p, not 4K; and the projector is not truly grab-and-go portable.
What is the Hisense C2 Ultra?
Announced by Hisense in October 2024, the C2 Ultra is a triple-laser DLP projector that creates a 4K-class image through pixel shifting rather than a native 4K DLP imaging device. What Hi-Fi? lists its weight at 6.3 kg. That combination makes it a substantial home projector that can be repositioned, rather than a pocketable or battery-powered model.

Hisense advertises 3,000 ANSI lumens, a 65–300-inch image, 110% BT.2020 color gamut, Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced, HDMI 2.1, and a 25,000-plus-hour light-source life. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements; the 300-inch maximum should not be read as a guarantee of a bright, satisfying image at that size. Hisense’s specification page also lists HDMI 2.1 with eARC and two USB 3.0 ports.

The right size still depends on throw distance, room light and the viewing experience you want.

How good is the picture?
Color and brightness
Independent reviews identify color as a major strength. RTINGS reports exceptional color volume and strong brightness for a large living-room image, including with a few lights on. What Hi-Fi? praises the projector’s punchy HDR and solid color in fairly bright living-room conditions. For a more cinematic result, both the room and screen benefit from reduced ambient light: a bright projector does not make room lighting irrelevant.
Dark scenes, calibration and motion
RTINGS considers the C2 Ultra a decent dark-room home-theater choice with reliably good contrast, but says its out-of-box picture is too cool before calibration. It also notes that some viewers may notice the rainbow effect associated with DLP projection. If you are sensitive to brief flashes of color in high-contrast scenes, that is worth considering before purchase.
RTINGS reports a specific motion-processing trade-off: de-juddering requires downscaling to 1080p. That matters if you want smoother motion while preserving the projector’s 4K-class image. The C2 Ultra supports multiple image and refresh modes, but features do not necessarily operate together at every resolution.

Is it easy to place and set up?
The C2 Ultra’s rotating two-axis gimbal lets you aim the projector without first repositioning its entire base. Its 0.9–1.5:1 optical zoom gives additional framing flexibility. Autofocus, automatic keystone correction, object avoidance and wall-color adaptation can reduce setup work; What Hi-Fi? groups several of these adjustments under Hisense’s Auto Magic AI Adjusting 2.0 label.
The important limitation is that it has no lens shift. Keystone correction can help square an image, but it is not the same as moving the lens optically: for horizontal alignment, RTINGS says you need to move the projector itself. Plan the projector’s physical position and throw distance before settling on a screen location. Optional thin-pole floor stands and ceiling brackets are mentioned by What Hi-Fi?, but verify compatibility for a specific mount before buying.
How capable is it for gaming?
Hisense markets the C2 Ultra as Designed for Xbox and advertises Auto Low Latency Mode, MEMC and refresh rates up to 240 frames per second. RTINGS and TechRadar identify 1080p at 240Hz as a supported gaming mode. Do not confuse that with 4K at 240Hz: the 240Hz capability is not a promise of that resolution-refresh combination.

RTINGS describes the projector as responsive across several resolution and refresh-rate combinations, while noting that 60Hz and 120Hz are not as fast as its 240Hz mode for competitive play. What Hi-Fi? lists input lag of 34.4 ms at 60Hz and 17.6 ms with DLP Turbo Mode. Those figures are review-page specifications, and responsiveness depends on the chosen mode; players should match the projector’s mode to their console or PC output and priorities.

What are the smart features and built-in speakers like?
The projector runs Hisense VIDAA, and RTINGS notes official Netflix integration. App availability varies by market and software version. What Hi-Fi? lists Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITVX, All 4, My 5, Now TV, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, Apple TV, Paramount+ and HBO Max for the UK model, and reports that a firmware update added Freely support there. Check the apps on the exact regional version you plan to buy rather than assuming that list applies everywhere.
Hisense describes the built-in audio as a 2.1-channel JBL system with DTS Virtual:X and an integrated 1.2-litre subwoofer. It is useful for a simple setup, but should be treated as onboard convenience rather than a substitute for a dedicated surround system.

- 【65"-300" Super Wide Projection Size, IMAX Enhanced & Dolby Vision Certified】Stretch the picture from 65" all the way up to a massive 300" with support for IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Vision certification.Movie night on the patio, a big game with the whole block, or a backyard party under the stars, the C3 scales up to match the occasion, without ever losing the immersive, larger-than-life feel.
- 【2500 ANSI Lumens, RGB Pure Triple Color Laser】 The C3 delivers 2500 ANSI Lumens with a Super Wide Color Volume of 110% BT.2020 and super high color accuracy (ΔE≤0.9), every frame is rendered with cinematic depth, purity, and brilliance.
- 【4K UHD Resolution】 Pixel-by-pixel reconstruction and intelligent frame interpolation elevate HD to breathtaking 4K detail, revealing lifelike depth and motion clarity in every scene.
- 【360° Horizontal and 135° Vertical Gimbal Design】 With 360° horizontal and 135° vertical gimbal movement hardware, the C3 isn't locked to a shelf or a straight wall. Angle it up, down, or sideways. Point it at a ceiling, a fence, or a ramp. It'll meet the space exactly where you are. No awkward mounting, no compromise on where movie night happens.
- 【Auto Magic AI Adjusting 2.0】 Set it down anywhere and let the C3 do the rest. Auto keystone correction detects the angle you've placed it at and straightens the image in real time, so it looks perfectly rectangular no matter where or how you set it up. At the same time, the C3 sharpens the picture on its own the moment you turn it on, and keeps refocusing if you move it, so the image stays crisp without you touching a focus ring.
Is the C2 Ultra portable?
It can be moved between rooms, but RTINGS notes that it has no carry handle, no included case and no battery. At 6.3 kg, it is best thought of as repositionable or semi-portable: moving it often means planning for safe transport and access to a power outlet, not simply picking it up for an impromptu outdoor screening.
How much does it cost, and what should you compare?
