To use Call Screen on a supported Google Pixel, open the Phone app and go to More > Settings > Spam and Call Screen or Call Screen, then tap Call Screen. When a call arrives, tap Screen call to have Call Assist ask who is calling and why; you can follow the live transcript and choose a suggested reply, answer, or hang up. Automatic screening is available only on certain Pixel models and in a smaller set of countries.
Check whether Call Screen is available on your Pixel
Call Screen options depend on the phone model, country, and SIM. Google lists automatic screening for Pixel phones in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK, and the US. Manual screening is listed in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, the UK, and the US. Manual screening requires a SIM from a country where the feature is available. Google’s India note restricts manual Call Screen to specified newer Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 family devices, so check the current support page for your exact model and region: Google’s Call Screen availability and instructions.

Google also mentions manual screening on selected Android devices in the US and Canada; that does not establish compatibility for every Android phone. If the Call Screen option is missing, check for setup prompts. If there are no prompts and no Call Screen settings, Google says the device does not support the feature.
Set up Call Screen
- Update the Phone by Google app in Google Play if an update is available.
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap More > Settings.
- Tap Spam and Call Screen or Call Screen, depending on your device.
- Tap Call Screen and follow any setup prompts. The available controls and labels vary by Pixel generation.
Screen an incoming call manually
- When the phone rings, tap Screen call.
- Call Assist asks the caller who they are and why they are calling. Read the live transcript as the caller responds.
- Choose a suggested reply, answer the call, or hang up.
Manual screening gives you the choice to screen each eligible call as it arrives. The caller hears Call Assist rather than your usual ringing conversation until you decide what to do.

Turn on automatic screening, if your Pixel offers it
In the Call Screen settings, select the available protection level and caller categories you want screened. The options differ between Pixel 6 and earlier phones and Pixel 7 and newer phones, so use the controls shown on your device rather than expecting a single menu layout.
When automatic screening flags a call as spam, the phone hangs up. If it does not consider the call spam, your phone rings and displays the caller’s response. Automatic screening does not run while roaming. Headphones or Bluetooth may also prevent it, depending on the model. Call Screen may pause media playback while screening.

- Call forwarding: Google advises against automatic Call Screen when call forwarding is enabled, because screened calls will not be forwarded.
- Recording apps: Call Screen does not work with third-party call-recording or screen-recording apps. Google recommends turning those apps off before using it.
Find a transcript or saved Call Screen audio
Google says Call Screen transcripts are saved on the phone. You can optionally enable saving Call Screen audio; the transcript or recording can then be viewed from the screened call in the Phone app history. What Call Screen does—and does not—send to Google
Google describes Call Screen as using on-device technology and working without Wi-Fi or mobile data. Your contacts can affect whether a call is screened. Local transcript storage is separate from Google’s optional data-sharing setting: if you choose to share Call Screen data with Google, the data described may include the screening-phase recording and transcript from before you join, diagnostic logs, and certain details about calls from businesses or organizations. Google’s privacy page says this information is not saved to your Google Account, Assistant Activity, or Web & App Activity in the account-history sense described there. Screening is not a guarantee against unwanted calls. Google cautions that some spam or robocalls may not be detected, and Call Assist may misunderstand a caller or produce an incomplete transcript. Use the transcript as an aid to deciding what to do, not as a perfect record.
