You can use BSNL broadband for a 24/7 FFmpeg YouTube stream if the connection can sustain your chosen upload bitrate with room to spare. Check the actual line at the stream location, account for your BSNL circle’s fair-usage policy (FUP), configure FFmpeg to YouTube’s current ingest requirements, and test recovery from interruptions before depending on the stream. A plan’s advertised speed does not guarantee uninterrupted service.
Check whether your BSNL connection can sustain the stream
Measure upload performance on the same BSNL connection and from the place where the streaming machine will run. YouTube Help recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate; a single peak result, however, cannot establish that a line will hold that rate continuously. Observe the connection over time and run a representative test stream with motion and audio like the content you intend to broadcast. Monitor YouTube’s stream health as well as the encoder and network.

Choose a bitrate below the line’s observed sustainable upload capacity, leaving operating margin for variation and other traffic. If upload varies, use a lower resolution or bitrate rather than setting the encoder at the edge of a brief speed-test result. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists these H.264 video bitrate recommendations:

These figures are YouTube Help’s recommendations, not measurements of a BSNL line. YouTube’s guide also covers other resolutions and frame rates; choose settings for the actual output you can sustain rather than treating these two examples as universal targets. Check your circle’s BSNL plan and FUP
Continuous uploading can consume substantial data, and the post-FUP speed may matter more than the plan’s headline speed. Verify the current terms for your BSNL circle and plan, including the data allowance and upload speed after the allowance is reached.

Configure YouTube and FFmpeg for the same stream settings
For ordinary live content, YouTube recommends RTMPS. You need the ingest address and stream name/key from YouTube Live Control Room or the relevant Live Streaming API resource. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.

In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and retrieve its server/ingest address and stream key. Use the RTMPS endpoint and application path provided by YouTube; its RTMPS documentation specifies port 443. Do not copy a real key into public scripts, logs, screenshots, or examples.
- Choose compatible encoder settings. YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1, supports up to 60 fps, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Match the codec, resolution, frame rate, video bitrate, and audio settings to YouTube’s current encoder guide and to your measured upload capacity.
- Configure FFmpeg for your source. The exact command depends on whether you are streaming a file, camera, capture device, or generated source, and on the codecs and protocols available in your installed FFmpeg build. Set the input and encoding options for that source, then send the resulting stream to YouTube’s RTMPS ingest address using the provided stream key. Consult the FFmpeg documentation for the options supported by your build; there is no single universally safe command for all sources and installations.
- Verify before leaving it running. Start a representative test, confirm that YouTube receives the stream and reports healthy status, and watch the actual upload behavior. Test the full path with representative movement and sound rather than an idle or unusually easy-to-encode sample.
Do not assume a command alone makes a stream always-on. The sources do not establish uptime for a particular BSNL line or a universal reconnection method. Plan for failures of the source, machine, power, and network, and check your FFmpeg build’s protocol documentation when evaluating recovery options.

Troubleshoot common stream failures
- YouTube reports an unstable or unhealthy stream: compare the encoder bitrate with sustained upload at the stream location. Lower bitrate or resolution, reduce competing network use, and repeat the representative test.
- The stream works initially but fails after a while: check whether the BSNL plan has crossed its FUP and whether post-FUP speed can sustain the configured stream. Also inspect the encoder, source, power, and network for interruptions.
- FFmpeg cannot connect to YouTube: verify the RTMPS ingest address, application path, port, stream key, and protocol support in the installed FFmpeg build. Retrieve the current ingest details from YouTube rather than relying on a stale endpoint.
- YouTube does not receive the expected video or audio: confirm that the selected input is available and that the output codec and audio/video settings match YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Test with representative audio and motion.
- The BSNL line has a service fault: BSNL lists 1800-4444 for Bharat Fibre, broadband, and landline support. The published contact information does not promise a repair time or a dedicated always-on-stream support path.
