How to Use Applitools Eyes Test Manager

Review Applitools Eyes checkpoints against the right baselines, then accept only intended changes and preserve the expected reference when a result points to a bug.

Use Applitools Eyes Test Manager to review visual-test checkpoints against their baselines, decide whether each difference is an intended UI change or a defect, and save only reviewed baseline updates. Test Manager is the review and baseline-management interface; your test suite and Eyes SDK capture the checkpoints.

How Eyes Test Manager fits into visual testing

A visual test captures screenshots at meaningful application states called checkpoints. Eyes compares those images with stored baseline images. Test Manager is where you inspect the results, report bugs, and manage those baselines. A flagged difference is a reason to investigate, not an automatic instruction to accept a new image. 1. Run the test suite so it captures the checkpoints you want to verify.
  2. Open the result link from the test run, or open Test Manager and find the relevant run.
  3. Inspect each flagged checkpoint against its baseline and determine what changed.
  4. Accept and save a checkpoint only when its new appearance is intended. Reject it if it represents a suspected defect.

Find the run and verify its context

Test Manager groups test runs into batches. The support walkthrough describes run details including test name, result, execution time and date, browser or device, operating system, and viewport size. Filter by status if needed, then open the run that matches the code change you are reviewing. Exact labels can vary as the interface changes.

Before interpreting a difference, confirm the test and application identity and the environment. Applitools lists operating system, viewport size, browser, application name, and test name among factors that identify a baseline. A run using a different browser or viewport may be associated with a different expected reference. Applitools support

Review a checkpoint and choose what to do

Inspect the visual change

For each flagged checkpoint, compare the captured screen with its baseline. Identify the changed area and decide whether the difference follows a planned design or code change. If the run is in an unexpected environment, resolve that context first rather than treating the mismatch as a product change.

Accept an intended change

If the UI change is intentional, accept the checkpoint and save the reviewed baseline update. That accepted image becomes the expected reference for later test executions. On the first run, captured images establish the initial baselines, so review them for correctness before relying on them as regression references.

Reject a suspected bug

If the difference is unexpected, reject the checkpoint or report the issue. Rejecting retains the prior expected appearance instead of teaching future runs to treat the suspicious change as normal. Avoid accepting a whole set of differences without reviewing them: doing so can normalize an unintended regression.

Use baseline variations for known alternatives

Some screens legitimately render in more than one way, for example when an A/B experiment serves different versions. Applitools documents baseline variations so Eyes can compare a checkpoint against multiple accepted references. Its documentation states a maximum of 20 variations for a test step. Use variations only for recognized valid outcomes; they are not a substitute for investigating an unexplained difference. Applitools baseline variations documentation

Check match-level settings when results surprise you

The cited Eyes Visual AI settings page describes Strict as its default and recommended screenshot match level. It checks visible content such as text, fonts, color, graphics, and element positions while aiming to ignore platform-dependent pixel differences. Match-level choices and behavior can depend on product configuration and context, so verify the setting used by your own test rather than assuming every run uses the same one. Applitools match-level settings

Troubleshoot a result before changing a baseline

  • The result appears to compare the wrong screen: verify the test and application identity, then open the intended run and checkpoint.
  • A difference appears only in one environment: check browser, operating system, and viewport. Baselines can be environment-specific.
  • A first run is marked as different: initial captures establish baselines; review that first set of images as expected behavior before relying on it for later comparisons.
  • A known experiment produces multiple valid screens: consider baseline variations for the legitimate alternatives, within the documented per-step limit.
  • A mismatch is unexpected or unexplained: reject or report it rather than accepting it to clear the result.

If you need a screenshot of a page rather than a visual-regression review inside Eyes, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-call screenshot API. Cookie banners are accepted and removed before the capture, along with known newsletter popups and chat widgets; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. It also has an MCP server for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client.
