To use Nightstand Mode, turn it on at Settings > General > Nightstand Mode on Apple Watch, then connect the watch to a powered charger. While charging, it can show the time, date, charging status and the time of a set alarm. A dedicated bedside stand is optional; the charger is what the feature requires.
Turn on Nightstand Mode and show the bedside clock
- On Apple Watch, open Settings > General > Nightstand Mode and turn on Nightstand Mode.
- Connect the watch to a powered charger and place its back against the magnetic charging surface.
- To view the display, tap the screen or lightly nudge the watch. Tapping or nudging the table may also wake it.
Apple says the charging display includes the current time and date, charging status, and the time of any alarm you have set. See Apple’s Apple Watch alarm and Nightstand Mode guide.

Choose a charger or bedside stand
Apple recommends using the magnetic charger supplied with the watch. MagSafe Duo and compatible third-party chargers are also options; follow Apple’s Apple Watch charging guidance to position the watch correctly. Nightstand Mode does not require a separate stand. If you use one, check that it fits your charger puck and watch configuration; a stand may hold your charger rather than include one.

Set an alarm and control it from the bedside
Make an Apple Watch alarm
Open the Alarms app, add an alarm, choose its time and AM or PM, then save it. From the alarm’s options, you can change its repeat days, label, snooze setting and snooze duration, and choose whether its sound breaks through Silent Mode while wearing the watch. In Nightstand Mode, Apple says an alarm set in the Alarms app gently wakes you with a unique alarm sound.

Stop or snooze a sounding alarm
- Press the side button to stop the alarm.
- Press the Digital Crown to snooze it.
Silent Mode does not mute alarms and timers while Apple Watch is charging, according to Apple’s Silent Mode guidance.
Send an iPhone alarm alert to Apple Watch
To have an iPhone alarm alert on the watch, open the Apple Watch app on iPhone and go to My Watch > Clock, then enable Push Alerts from iPhone. This routes the iPhone alarm alert to the watch; an alarm created on Apple Watch does not alert the iPhone. The setting and behavior are described in Apple’s alarm guide.

Fix a Nightstand Mode display that stays dark
- Confirm the feature is enabled. On the watch, check Settings > General > Nightstand Mode.
- Check the charging connection. Make sure the charger has power and the watch is positioned against its magnetic charging surface.
- Wake the screen. Tap the display or press or turn the Digital Crown. Apple’s wake instructions say a watch that does not respond to a tap or Digital Crown action may need charging.
Nightstand Mode is the charger-based bedside clock. It is distinct from Always On, the wrist-display setting; Apple’s documentation says Low Power Mode disables Always On, but does not establish Always On as a requirement for Nightstand Mode.
