Use ApiFlash’s https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage endpoint from Node.js with an HTTPS GET request. Pass your access key and a complete page URL as encoded query parameters, check the HTTP status, then stream the image response to a file. Keep the key on the server, not in browser code.
Make a screenshot request from Node.js
This example uses Node.js’s built-in https and fs modules. Set APIFLASH_ACCESS_KEY in your server environment before running it. Replace the example URL with the page you want to capture.

URLSearchParams encodes values safely, including URLs and selectors that contain reserved characters. This is an instructional adaptation of ApiFlash’s documented example, not independently tested code. Required values and response type

ApiFlash also supports response_type=json, which returns JSON containing a screenshot URL; the documentation describes extracted HTML or text in that mode as well. Handle that response differently from the default binary image stream.

Choose capture settings
Set options as query parameters in the same URLSearchParams object. The following documented controls cover the most common adjustments.

For example, to capture a 1365-pixel-wide viewport as WebP after waiting for a specific element, add these fields to the parameters:

Let URLSearchParams handle query encoding rather than concatenating strings by hand. WebP output is subject to documented maximum dimensions after applying scale_factor, as well as a width-height pixel limit; check the current API documentation before relying on edge-size captures.

Handle errors, quota, and rate limits
Check HTTP status codes
ApiFlash documents these error statuses. Treat non-200 responses as failures and inspect the response body or headers where useful; do not assume every response is a screenshot.

Monitor request limits and quota
The documented rate limit is 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400. Requests beyond the sustained rate may be delayed; requests beyond the burst may be terminated with HTTP 429. ApiFlash exposes quota through X-Quota-Limit, X-Quota-Remaining, and X-Quota-Reset response headers, and documents a quota endpoint. Identical successful captures may be served from cache and do not count toward monthly quota; check ApiFlash’s documentation for its current quota-accounting rules.
A production client should avoid an uncontrolled retry loop. Back off on rate-limit responses, cap retries for transient failures, and log status codes and quota headers so that exhausted quota is distinguishable from a bad URL or capture failure.

Keep your access key out of public code
Do not put the ApiFlash key in frontend JavaScript, a public repository, or a URL that users can inspect. Make the request from a backend you control. If you expose your own endpoint for screenshots, it can be abused to capture arbitrary URLs and consume your quota.
ApiFlash’s Nginx guide demonstrates restricting allowed URLs, rate-limiting requests, and caching public screenshots; its guides also describe proxying through a Cloudflare Worker. No. The default response is the screenshot image bytes. Set response_type=json if you want the documented JSON response.
What happens if the element in wait_for never appears?
The documented wait ends after 15 seconds and the capture is aborted.
