ApiFlash’s documented urltoimage endpoint creates screenshots, not PDF files. It returns JPEG, PNG, or WebP image data—or links to those image files in JSON mode. To make a PDF, capture the page with ApiFlash and convert the resulting image separately, or use a service that generates PDFs from web pages. The distinction matters: a full-page screenshot saved inside a PDF is still an image, not a normally selectable, reflowable webpage document.
What ApiFlash can—and cannot—do for a PDF workflow
The ApiFlash API reference documents a URL-to-image endpoint at https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage. Its listed formats are JPEG, PNG, and WebP; image bytes are the default response. With response_type=json, the response contains links to generated files. You can still use ApiFlash as the capture stage: request a screenshot, then pass that image to a separate image-to-PDF converter. This produces a PDF containing the screenshot. If you need a conventional multipage PDF with selectable text and page layout, choose a webpage-to-PDF or HTML-to-PDF service instead. 1. Get an access key and prepare the URL
Get a valid access key from the ApiFlash dashboard. The request needs both access_key and a fully qualified target URL, including https:// or http://. Encode the URL when placing it in a query string; otherwise characters such as & can be mistaken for separate API parameters.

2. Send a screenshot request
ApiFlash supports GET with query parameters or POST with form data. This GET example requests a full-height PNG:

Save those bytes as an image file before attempting image-to-PDF conversion. 3. Choose capture size and output

4. Convert the image only if an image-based PDF is sufficient
Once you have the screenshot file, use a separate image-to-PDF tool or library to place it on a PDF page. Decide whether one long image should become one tall page or be scaled or split across standard pages; the capture endpoint’s full-page setting does not define PDF page size, margins, or pagination. Review the resulting PDF for legibility, page breaks, and file size. If the document must preserve webpage text as text, links, or a natural multi-page layout, use a PDF-generating service rather than converting the screenshot.

Make the capture more reliable
Wait for the right page state
The documented default for wait_until is network_idle; available criteria include dom_loaded, page_loaded, and network_idle. The maximum documented wait_until_timeout is 30 seconds. Use wait_for to wait for a CSS selector when a particular element signals that the page is ready; the documented failure timeout is 15 seconds if it does not appear. Prefer these conditions to an arbitrary delay when possible. For lazy-loaded content or animations, scroll_page=true can trigger loading as the page scrolls. ApiFlash API reference · ApiFlash FAQ
Handle login and request headers carefully
The API supports cookies and headers, which can help capture authenticated pages. Custom headers may apply broadly to requests and can interfere with resources such as external fonts. ApiFlash’s FAQ suggests self-hosted fonts or cookies for authentication in that situation. Avoid sending credentials to a capture service unless you are authorized to share them and have checked the service’s data-handling terms.

Control cached results
Identical parameter calls may return a cached screenshot. Use ttl to set the cache duration, or fresh=true when you need a new capture rather than a cached result. Account for caching when checking whether a page change has appeared in the image.

If your required deliverable is a PDF generated from a URL, use a distinct PDF service and confirm its input and output behavior before building around it.
