Set a price alert for one Amazon item
- Open the product page. In the Amazon Shopping app or on Amazon.com, find the exact item you want to monitor.
- Ask Alexa for Shopping to watch its price. On the product detail page, use a clear request such as “Alert me when this drops to $50.” Confirm that the selected product is the one you mean and state your target price.
- Wait for a notification. Amazon describes this as an alert when the item reaches the target. Its public information does not establish that the feature is enabled for every item, account, or marketplace, so check whether the option is available on your product page.
Amazon calls its current shopping assistant Alexa for Shopping. The company announced it for U.S. customers on the Amazon Shopping app and website, as well as Echo Show devices; its help page describes access through the app and website. Availability may vary, and Amazon does not publish a complete eligibility list.

Track deals when you do not have a specific item in mind
A target-price alert watches one selected product at a stated price. For broader discovery, ask Alexa for Shopping to find deals that fit a need—for example, “Alert me to deals on noise-canceling headphones.” Amazon says it provides daily updates when new matching deals become available. This is different from monitoring one product at one threshold.

Price history can help you judge whether a current listing price is attractive and choose a useful alert threshold. On a product detail page, select Price history, or ask Alexa for Shopping, “What’s the price history?” or “Is this the lowest price recently?” Amazon describes 30-, 90-, and 365-day views, but the available window can depend on marketplace and rollout.

It described 365-day insights as rolling out in the U.S., U.K., and India, with full availability expected in the coming weeks. That is dated rollout information, not a guarantee of current availability in every marketplace; check what appears on your own product page.
Know the difference between an alert and Auto-Buy
A regular target-price alert is intended to notify you when the price reaches your threshold. Auto-Buy is a separate, higher-consequence option: Amazon says Alexa for Shopping can be asked to buy an item when it reaches a stated price, completing the purchase with the account’s default payment method. Before enabling or relying on it, review your purchase controls and make sure the item, threshold, and payment method are right.

Review voice-purchase and privacy controls
Require a code or turn off voice purchasing
Amazon’s Alexa device FAQ gives this path for voice-purchase settings: Alexa app > More > Settings > Account Settings > Voice Purchasing. Amazon says you can require a confirmation code for voice purchases or turn voice purchasing off. App labels may change, so verify the current settings on your device.

Amazon says recordings of voice requests made to Alexa in the Amazon Shopping app are automatically deleted, while transcripts are retained until you choose to delete them. The company says Alexa interactions can be reviewed and managed through Alexa Privacy in the app. These are Amazon’s stated policies and controls, not an independent privacy assessment.

Do you need an Echo?
No. Amazon documents Alexa for Shopping on the Amazon Shopping app and Amazon.com, so those are the direct options for setting an item alert. An Echo Show is an additional way to use Amazon’s shopping experience, and an Echo device can provide hands-free access; it is optional rather than a requirement for app or website use.
Amazon’s general Alexa shopping developer documentation also lists Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Spot, and Fire TV for shopping actions in custom Alexa skills, and says voice purchasing must be enabled to shop within a skill. That documentation concerns developer-built skills; it should not be treated as an availability guarantee for every Alexa for Shopping consumer feature on every listed device.

What to expect—and what is not guaranteed
- Exact item: State the target price on the product page for the item you want to monitor.
- Deal discovery: Ask for deals that match a product need when you are open to multiple products.
- Price history: Use it for context, but check the history window and feature availability in your marketplace.
- Purchase behavior: Distinguish a notification from Auto-Buy, which can place an order using the default payment method.
- Access: The app and website do not require an Echo; device and account eligibility can still vary.
Amazon reported that more than 50 million customers had checked its price-history feature since its 2024 launch, and that the average customer checked it three times a month. Those are company-reported usage figures, not independent measurements or a promise about how often any individual shopper should check prices.
