The safest way to use AI in WordPress in 2026 is to separate the feature, the provider connection, and the underlying capability. Install an editorial plugin for tasks such as drafting, summaries, translations, alt text, and SEO suggestions; connect an approved provider once in Settings > Connectors; then keep publishing decisions, permissions, and bulk changes under human control.
Antihost offers managed WordPress hosting with free migration, one-click staging and a 14-day free trial.
You can choose a managed tool such as Jetpack AI for a simpler setup, or combine the modular WordPress AI plugin with connectors when provider choice, portability, local models, and developer control matter more. The workflows below show how to start with reversible suggestions and expand to carefully confirmed writes.

AI is not one switch in the WordPress dashboard. A practical implementation has three layers, and understanding the separation prevents duplicate API keys, excessive permissions, and confusing plugin behavior.
1. The feature plugin
The first-party WordPress AI plugin adds editorial and administration features. Version 1.3.0, released on August 18, 2026, lists content translation, SEO-friendly slug generation, custom Abilities behind an opt-in toggle, and settings import/export. Other documented experiments include post and page summaries, bulk summary generation, image alt-text generation during upload, categorization, and suggested replies for comment moderators.

- [Ultra-Lightweight Ear Buds Designed for Small Ears] Each earbud weighs only 3.7g and features a compact, ergonomic in-ear design made especially for small ears. Secure, low-profile, and comfortable for workouts, all-day wear or overnight sleeping. The ultra-slim profile sits flush in your ear with no hard edges poking or rubbing, so you can even sleep on your side without discomfort.
- [Immersive Stereo Sound with TOZO OrigX Technology] TOZO OrigX tuning delivers clear vocals, balanced mids, and natural stereo sound for music, podcasts, and videos.
- [Long Battery Life for Daily Use] Get up to 7 hours of playtime on a single charge, with up to 32 hours total using the charging case—ideal for workdays, commuting, and extended listening sessions.
- [Bluetooth 5.3 & Stable Connection] Bluetooth 5.3 provides fast pairing, stable wireless performance, and reduced dropouts as you move around home or office.
- [Deep Bass with Clear Vocals] High-performance drivers produce punchy bass while keeping vocals clean and detailed for everyday listening.
These features make suggestions inside familiar WordPress screens. They do not make the generated text authoritative: a title, translation, category, slug, or reply remains a draft until a person checks it.
2. The provider connection
In Settings > Connectors, install a connector and enter an API key once. Plugins that use the WordPress AI Client can reuse that stored connection, so changing providers does not require opening every plugin and replacing its credentials. Record which organization or personal account owns each key, because billing, rate limits, and access continue to follow that account.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →3. The core capability layer
WordPress describes the AI Client as a provider-agnostic core component introduced in WordPress 7.0. The Abilities API, introduced in WordPress 6.9, provides a registry of capabilities that tools and agents can discover and call. Documented providers include OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google; local options such as Ollama and llama.cpp are also documented. A provider supplies the model, while WordPress and the plugin decide which operation is exposed and which permissions it needs.
Choose a managed or modular setup
Both approaches can produce drafts and suggestions. The important difference is how much of the connection, permission model, and feature surface you want to manage yourself.
| Decision point | Managed Jetpack AI | First-party WordPress AI plugin plus connectors |
|---|---|---|
| Provider choice | Managed within the Jetpack service; the exact model mix can change as the service changes. | Choose among documented connectors and can use local providers such as Ollama or llama.cpp where supported. |
| Credential location | Configured through the Jetpack connection and its service account. | Configured centrally in Settings > Connectors and reused by compatible plugins. |
| Editor features | Jetpack AI documents text and image generation in the editor. | Core plugin features and opt-in experiments include drafts, rewrites, summaries, alt text, categorization, slugs, translation, and suggested comment replies; availability can vary by release. |
| Read/write controls | Connections from ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and other MCP-compatible agents can separate read and write access; writes wait for confirmation. | Controls depend on the connector, plugin, and any custom Ability. Design each Ability with the narrowest capability and permission it needs. |
| Auditability | Jetpack documents an activity log for agent actions and restoration through Jetpack Backup. | Use WordPress revisions, host backups, plugin logs, and any connector-specific logs; a single common audit log is not stated. |
| Multi-site administration | Central service management can simplify multiple sites, subject to the account and plan configuration. | Each site’s connector and permissions must be administered unless your own network tooling standardizes them. |
| Developer extensibility | Use supported Jetpack agent and MCP connections. | Extend through REST endpoints, Abilities, and the WordPress MCP ecosystem with explicit permission checks. |
Jetpack’s product page currently shows a free tier with 20 requests and a paid plan displayed at $4.95 per month for the first year when billed yearly, renewing at the full price. The figure is a time-sensitive product-page offer, not a permanent rate; check the live plan before budgeting. The Jetpack plugin release listed by WordPress.org is 16.3.1, dated October 12, 2026.
Use the managed route when
- You want editor assistance without selecting and maintaining several provider accounts.
- Your team benefits from a documented confirmation gate, separate read/write toggles, and an activity log for agent actions.
- You already use Jetpack Backup and want a documented restoration path before automated edits.
Use the modular route when
- You need to switch providers without reconfiguring every compatible plugin.
- You need local inference, a specific provider, or a capability that you will expose through a custom Ability.
- You are building an internal editorial or development workflow around REST, Abilities, or MCP.

- Update and inventory. Record your WordPress version, active plugins, user roles, backup coverage, and staging site. The AI Client is described as a WordPress 7.0 component and the Abilities API as a WordPress 6.9 component, so verify that your installation and chosen plugin release meet the feature’s stated requirement.
- Choose one owner for each provider key. Decide whether the key belongs to the company, a site administrator, or an individual. Store it in the connector rather than pasting it into prompts or page content, and document how it will be rotated.
- Open Settings > Connectors. Install the connector for the provider you selected, enter the key, and run the connector’s test if it provides one. Compatible plugins should be able to use the stored connection.
- Enable only the features you need. In the first-party plugin, keep experimental features and custom Abilities opt-in. Do not enable a bulk or write operation simply because it is available.
- Create a non-production test. Use a draft post, a staging site, or a test comment. Check the generated HTML, links, headings, metadata, and media before allowing the same operation on published content.
- Start read-only. Summaries, suggested titles, alt text, classifications, and proposed slugs reveal quality without changing the public site.
Workflow: draft and revise in the editor
Use AI to accelerate the parts of writing that are easy to inspect, not to bypass editorial responsibility.
Build a first draft
- Open a new post and write the audience, purpose, required facts, exclusions, and desired length in a short brief.
- Ask the editor assistant for an outline or a draft section, one section at a time for a long article. Supply approved facts and internal terminology rather than asking it to invent sources.
- Keep the result in draft status. Compare every factual statement with your source material, especially dates, prices, product limits, legal claims, and technical commands.
- Replace generic wording with your publication’s examples and define specialist terms for the reader.
Revise without losing the original
- Request a specific operation such as “shorten this paragraph,” “change the tone to neutral,” “correct spelling and grammar,” “propose three titles,” or “write a 155-character summary.”
- Apply changes to a selected passage rather than the entire post when possible.
- Use WordPress revisions or duplicate the draft before a broad rewrite, so the previous wording remains recoverable.
- Check headings, lists, tables, links, embedded code, and block structure after accepting a suggestion. A fluent rewrite can still remove a required qualifier or break markup.
Jetpack AI documents both text and image generation in the editor. The service does not remove the need to check copyright, factual accuracy, accessibility, or whether an image actually depicts what its caption says.
Workflow: generate accessible image text during upload
The AI plugin workflow described by Learn WordPress can generate alt text during image upload. Treat it as a proposed description, not a guarantee of accessibility.
- Upload the image to the Media Library or the post editor.
- Review the generated alt text in the media details panel.
- Rewrite it to describe the image’s purpose in context. If the image is decorative, use the accessibility convention your site follows instead of adding needless detail. If text appears in the image, verify every word manually.
- Save the corrected text and check the rendered page with a keyboard and screen-reader test when the image is important to understanding.
Workflow: summarize long posts and pages
Long content is a useful low-risk starting point because the source post already exists and the output can be compared against it. Version 1.2.0 of the first-party AI plugin documents bulk summary generation for posts and pages.
One post at a time
- Open the post and request a summary with a defined audience, length, and required conclusion.
- Check that the summary includes the actual answer, does not introduce a new claim, and preserves important qualifications.
- Place it in the excerpt or your designated summary field, then preview archive pages and social cards.
Bulk summaries
- Back up the database and confirm that your theme and SEO system use the field you intend to change.
- Run the bulk action on a small, representative batch first.
- Compare generated summaries with the source posts, inspect revision history, and record which posts changed.
- Only then process the remaining posts. Keep the old values or a database export so you can restore selectively.
Workflow: categories, tags, and SEO-friendly slugs
AI can suggest a taxonomy or a concise slug, but it cannot know your information architecture unless you provide it.
Classification
Give the assistant your approved category list, definitions, and examples. Ask for one primary category and a limited number of tags. Review borderline cases for consistency with older content; otherwise, AI can create near-duplicate labels that fragment archives and navigation.

Slug suggestions
The 1.3.0 plugin release lists SEO-friendly slug generation. Compare a proposed slug with existing URLs, redirects, search intent, and the words that genuinely distinguish the page. Never change a published slug in bulk without a redirect plan. Keep a human approval step before saving.
Metadata quality checks
- Confirm that the title and description match the page rather than promising information it does not contain.
- Check length in the actual search or social preview tool your site uses; character counts are guidance, not a ranking guarantee.
- Reject invented entities, unsupported statistics, and keyword stuffing.
Workflow: translate posts and headings
The first-party plugin’s 1.3.0 experiment translates paragraph and heading blocks and can optionally translate the post title. Use it as a translator’s first pass, not as automatic publication.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Define the target locale, audience, spelling conventions, glossary, and terms that must remain untranslated.
- Duplicate or export the source post so the original language remains intact.
- Translate a small set of paragraph and heading blocks first. Check names, measurements, dates, idioms, links, HTML attributes, and text inside images.
- Ask a fluent reviewer to check meaning, tone, accessibility, and search terminology before publishing.
- Verify that language metadata, menus, canonical links, and alternate-language links are correct in your multilingual setup.
Workflow: moderate comments with suggested replies
Version 1.2.0 documents a Suggest Reply experiment for moderators. Use it to reduce drafting time while keeping a person responsible for the public response.
- Give moderators a policy for harassment, personal data, medical or financial claims, refunds, and escalation.
- Generate a proposed reply without granting the tool permission to publish automatically.
- Check whether the answer addresses the commenter’s actual question and whether it accidentally confirms private information.
- Escalate threats, legal requests, security reports, and sensitive personal situations instead of relying on a generated response.
Workflow: connect ChatGPT, Claude, or another MCP-compatible agent
Jetpack AI documents connections from ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and other MCP-compatible agents. The useful distinction is between what an agent can read and what it can write.
Permission design
- The connection never gets more than the WordPress user’s existing permissions.
- Jetpack documents separate read and write access toggles, configurable per site and per action.
- Writes wait for confirmation, so an agent can prepare an edit without silently publishing it.
- Actions are recorded in an activity log, giving administrators a way to investigate who requested a change and when.
Use a dedicated WordPress account with only the capabilities required for the task. Do not connect a site administrator account when an editor or custom role can complete the job. Test the agent against a draft and confirm that a denied operation really fails.
Good agent requests
- “List posts updated in the last 30 days that lack an excerpt.”
- “Suggest alt text for these three images and show the proposed values without saving.”
- “Prepare, but do not publish, a category change for these post IDs and explain each choice.”
Risky agent requests
- “Rewrite every published post and save the changes.”
- “Delete unused media and redirect any broken links automatically.”
- “Change all URLs to the new slug pattern without a preview.”
For any operation that can affect many records, require a dry run, an itemized diff, explicit confirmation, and a tested restore path.

Developer workflow: use Abilities, REST, and MCP safely
The WordPress.org MCP server can validate plugin readmes, retrieve review status, and submit plugins. The developer handbook’s rule is direct: “You must review every change your AI assistant makes before submitting your plugin.” Treat that as a release control, not a suggestion.
Expose narrow server-side operations
When building an integration, create a scoped server-side endpoint or Ability for each operation. Validate input, check the current user’s capability, enforce post or site boundaries, sanitize output, and return a preview before a write. The WordPress AI Client announcement recommends this architecture because arbitrary client-side prompting can require high privilege.
Review a plugin change
- Ask the assistant to explain the intended change and list affected files or records.
- Inspect the diff yourself, including permission checks, nonce or authentication handling, sanitization, escaping, and error paths.
- Run automated tests and a staging test with a low-privilege account.
- Check the readme and metadata with the MCP validation operation.
- Only submit after a human reviewer has verified every change.
Human review and rollback policy
AI output is probabilistic. A safe site makes review proportional to the blast radius.
Always review
- Facts, quotations, statistics, prices, dates, product specifications, and links.
- Legal, medical, financial, security, employment, and safety-related wording.
- Translations, names, measurements, accessibility descriptions, and text embedded in images.
- SEO slugs, canonical URLs, redirects, taxonomy changes, and anything that can alter indexing.
- Code, SQL, REST permissions, user-role changes, and deletion requests.
Back up before bulk work
- Export a database backup and confirm that you can restore it on staging.
- Capture the list of affected post IDs and the old values where possible.
- Run the smallest batch that can reveal a formatting or logic error.
- Keep WordPress revisions and plugin activity logs. Jetpack documents restoration through Jetpack Backup for its connected workflow.
- After the change, check public pages, feeds, search previews, forms, and analytics before proceeding.
Common failures and fixes
The connector cannot authenticate
Check that the key belongs to the intended account, has not expired or been revoked, and is entered in the connector rather than in a plugin-specific field. Confirm that the site can reach the provider and that the account has available quota. Rotate the key if it was exposed in a prompt, log, screenshot, or repository.
The AI invents facts or links
Provide an approved source excerpt, ask for unknowns to be marked clearly, and require a human fact check. Do not publish a citation merely because it looks plausible. For technical content, run commands in a disposable environment before including them.
A rewrite breaks blocks or formatting
Undo with the revision history, then apply smaller selections. Instruct the assistant to preserve HTML, shortcodes, code blocks, links, and heading levels. Compare the visual preview and the editor’s code view.
Best Value
A bulk action creates inconsistent categories or summaries
Restore the backup or revisions for the affected batch, tighten the taxonomy rules or summary brief, and rerun on a smaller sample. Add a duplicate-label check before approving the next batch.
An agent can read more than expected
Disconnect it, revoke the token, and review the activity log. Reconnect with a dedicated low-privilege account, disable write access, and expose only the required site or post scope.
A staged adoption plan
Stage 1: reversible assistance
Use drafts, rewrites, titles, summaries, alt text, and classifications. Measure reviewer correction time and note recurring errors without allowing automatic publication.
Stage 2: controlled updates
Enable confirmed writes for one post type or one staging site. Require a preview, a named approver, revisions, and a rollback test.
Stage 3: team and multisite operations
Standardize connector ownership, role templates, prompt briefs, logging, backup retention, and incident response. Review each site separately because a permission that is safe on a test site may be excessive on a production network.
Stage 4: custom capabilities
Build an Ability or MCP operation only after the manual workflow is stable. Give it one purpose, one permission boundary, clear validation, and an audit trail.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
What to budget and verify
Costs depend on the provider, connector, usage, and WordPress service. The only specific Jetpack figures documented here are a free allowance of 20 requests and a displayed introductory price of $4.95 per month for the first year on annual billing, renewing at the full price. Both the allowance and price can change, so verify them at purchase. A modular setup may add separate provider charges; no universal amount is established.
Before enabling a feature, verify:
- Which WordPress and plugin versions provide it.
- Whether the feature is stable or an opt-in experiment.
- Which provider receives the content and how that account bills usage.
- Whether the operation is read-only, suggestion-only, or capable of writing.
- Where logs, revisions, backups, and restore instructions are available.
Bottom line for 2026
Start with the first-party WordPress AI plugin and a central connector when portability and provider choice matter; choose managed Jetpack AI when its integrated editor and confirmed agent workflow fit your team. In either case, begin with summaries, titles, alt text, and classifications, then add narrowly scoped writes only after backups, permissions, previews, and human review are working. WordPress’s AI Client, Abilities API, and MCP tooling make deeper automation possible, but the quality and safety of the site still depend on the controls around each capability.
