A YouTube Live schedule creates an event page, shareable link, and reminder opportunity; it does not play your videos. To keep a pre-recorded channel live around the clock, schedule the event in YouTube Studio and use an encoder or streaming service to send the video feed. The schedule and the source that delivers the media are separate parts of the setup.
What a YouTube Live schedule does—and does not do
Scheduling gives viewers an upcoming live event to find, share, and set reminders for. You still need an encoder or service to send YouTube the prerecorded program, and you must start that feed for the event. YouTube’s instructions describe connecting an encoder, checking its preview in Live Control Room, and then clicking Go live (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).

For a 24/7 channel, plan the source, session boundaries, recovery, monitoring, and archives as well as the event page. YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish that one scheduled event can run indefinitely or give a universal scheduling cadence for continuous channels. Do not assume a single event will stay live forever.
Before scheduling: enable live streaming and prepare the feed
Enable live streaming
If live streaming is not enabled on your channel, complete YouTube’s enablement process first. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until the scheduled start time. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.

Choose how to send the prerecorded program
You need a software encoder, compatible hardware encoder, or hosted encoding service that can send the video to YouTube. For a continuous channel, check whether the specific option can play and loop your media as needed, restart after interruptions, and provide enough monitoring for your operating plan. YouTube’s encoder listings identify possible software, hardware, and service options, but do not establish that a particular one is suitable for uninterrupted 24/7 use (YouTube encoder listings).
- Software encoder: YouTube supports encoder software for sending a live feed. Confirm that the software can handle your playback and looping workflow; a computer running it must remain available while it is the source.
- Hardware encoder: YouTube lists hardware encoders, including AJA HELO Plus. Its page describes optional AJA PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. Check the exact model and optional features against your media formats, scheduling, monitoring, recovery needs, and budget before buying.
- Hosted or cloud encoding: YouTube lists third-party software and services, but that listing alone does not verify any provider’s 24/7 performance, pricing, or recovery behavior. Check scheduling controls, media and storage limits, alerts, recovery, geographic or data requirements, and total cost with the provider.
Protect the stream key
The stream URL and key connect the encoder to your YouTube broadcast. Copy them from Live Control Room into the encoder, and treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube explains stream settings in Manage live stream settings.

Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse prior settings or create a new stream, then configure the event details in Live Control Room. YouTube says a scheduled stream can be promoted, shared by URL, and offered to viewers with reminders (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
- Copy the stream URL and key shown for the stream into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Check that you selected the matching scheduled event and key.
- Set the encoder’s video and audio output, playback source, and looping or playlist behavior. The schedule itself does not configure any of these media functions.
Set encoder output for a reliable broadcast
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance as the reference for supported protocols and output settings. Its guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 options, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), supports up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery and advises testing upload capacity. Bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate, so choose the applicable entry in YouTube’s table rather than applying one bitrate to every stream (Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Match the encoder’s resolution and frame rate to the source and the quality you intend to deliver.
- Use the bitrate recommendation for that resolution and frame rate in YouTube’s settings table; confirm the available upload capacity is sufficient and stable.
- Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval where your encoder exposes these settings; keep the interval at or below four seconds.
- Use RTMPS when available for encrypted delivery, and verify that the encoder is actually sending to the scheduled stream.
- Test video, audio, and stream health before relying on the setup. YouTube advises testing in advance and monitoring the stream (YouTube live streaming tips).
Start the scheduled stream and end it cleanly
- At the scheduled time, start playback and begin sending the encoder feed.
- Open the event in Live Control Room and wait for the stream preview to appear.
- Check the preview and available stream health indicators; when ready, click Go live. YouTube’s documented workflow is to wait for the preview before going live (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
- To end the event, end it in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed. For a continuous channel, decide how the next event or session will begin; the documentation does not prescribe one universal handoff schedule.
Plan for 24/7 operation, interruptions, and archives
Keep a continuous source and a recovery plan
A 24/7 channel depends on a source that keeps sending its prerecorded program. With a local encoder, that means accounting for the computer, playback application, network connection, power, and someone or something able to detect and address a stoppage. With a hosted service or device, verify its recovery, alerting, and monitoring behavior rather than assuming it will resume automatically.

Do not treat the event archive as a full-day recording
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not support assuming one 24-hour broadcast will be saved as one automatically archived video. If archives matter, decide how to handle session length and preserve your own original recordings or other copies as appropriate (YouTube encoder instructions).
Test before relying on the schedule
Run a test with the actual media, encoder, network, and event workflow. Confirm that the video and audio are correct, that the preview appears, and that you can see stream health and respond to a dropped feed. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring, and choosing quality that is reliable for the available connection (YouTube live streaming tips).

Troubleshooting common setup problems
- The scheduled page exists, but nothing is playing: Scheduling creates the event, not the media feed. Start the encoder or service and check that it is sending video to the event’s stream URL and key.
- No preview appears in Live Control Room: Confirm the encoder is running, the stream URL and key match the scheduled event, and the encoder reports an active connection. Check the selected output settings and network upload capacity.
- The preview appears, but the event is not live: Follow the Live Control Room workflow and click Go live after the preview appears.
- The feed drops during playback: Check network stability, encoder or device operation, and stream-health indicators. Use an encoder or service with a recovery plan suitable for your needs; YouTube’s encoder listings do not guarantee recovery behavior for a specific product.
- The archive is missing or shorter than expected: YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. Do not rely on a single longer broadcast being archived automatically as one video.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded program. It streams the file as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required; after that, the Monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded videos, not camera-based live production.
