You can use a Wii Remote on a PC in three ways: connect it directly to Dolphin for Wii games, map a keyboard or standard PC controller as an emulated Wii Remote in Dolphin, or use a Windows mapping utility such as Touchmote to send Wii Remote inputs to other applications. For Dolphin’s real-remote setup, use Dolphin’s controller settings—not Windows’ Bluetooth pairing screen. A sensor bar is needed for infrared pointer controls, but not for button-only play.
Choose the setup that matches what you want to do

Connect a real Wii Remote to Dolphin
- Make sure the PC has working Bluetooth. Some desktop computers need a USB or PCIe Bluetooth adapter; compatibility depends on the adapter, driver, operating system, and remote model.
- In Dolphin, open Options → Controller Settings.
- For the Wii Remote slot you want to use, choose Real Wii Remote.
- Select Refresh. On a standard Wii Remote, press 1 + 2 together. On a Wii Remote Plus marked RVL-CNT-01-TR, press the remote’s Sync button instead. Dolphin documents these connection steps in its controller setup guide; WiiBrew describes the model distinction in its Wiimote reference.
- Turn on Continuous Scanning if you want Dolphin to keep searching for remotes while a game is running or the controller settings window is open.
Do not first pair the remote through the computer’s native Bluetooth settings. Dolphin warns that the operating system may interfere with Dolphin’s connection to the remote. Use Dolphin’s Refresh and button or Sync procedure instead. Dolphin: Configuring controllers.

Reconnect or manage multiple remotes
Dolphin supports up to four real Wii Remotes at once, including attached peripherals. If a game has been idle for several minutes, it may treat the remote as disconnected even while Dolphin still has a connection. Press a button on the remote or choose Tools → Connect Wii Remotes to reconnect it. Dolphin advises turning remotes off manually when you are finished to conserve battery. Dolphin’s controller guide.

If you do not need the physical remote, Dolphin can emulate one. In Options → Controller Settings, choose an emulated Wii Remote for the relevant slot, then configure its buttons and axes for a connected PC controller or keyboard. Dolphin’s configuration also supports extensions such as a Nunchuk or Guitar and MotionPlus settings. This route is often simpler for conventional controller play, but it is an input mapping for Dolphin games—not a way to make a physical Wii Remote control every Windows game. Map a real Wii Remote to Windows controls
For applications outside Dolphin, Touchmote documents a Windows utility that can map Wii Remote input to keyboard, mouse, multitouch, or Xbox 360 controller input, with layouts configurable for applications. Its project page lists Windows 7 or later, a Wii Remote, a sensor bar, and a supported Bluetooth dongle or Mayflash DolphinBar as prerequisites. It lists version 1.0 beta 15 downloads for 32-bit and 64-bit systems and warns that some newer remotes do not work with the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack. These are the project page’s stated requirements and compatibility notes, not a guarantee of operation on current Windows versions or every remote and adapter. Which accessories do you need?
Bluetooth adapter
A Bluetooth adapter is only necessary if the PC lacks a usable Bluetooth interface. Dolphin says many desktop PCs may need a USB or PCIe adapter, but compatibility is not established for every chipset or driver. A generic adapter is not guaranteed to work. Dolphin’s controller guide.

Sensor bar
A sensor bar supplies the infrared reference used for Wii Remote pointer controls. Touchmote lists a USB-powered or wireless sensor bar for its pointer workflow. You do not need one for ordinary button-only use. Touchmote.
Mayflash DolphinBar
Touchmote names the Mayflash DolphinBar as a recommended option and a possible solution for some newer remotes that do not work with Microsoft’s Bluetooth Stack. It is optional, not a universal Dolphin requirement. Confirm that the specific DolphinBar model and its software support your remote and operating system before buying it. Touchmote.

What to try if the remote will not connect
- Confirm the Dolphin input mode: The slot must be set to Real Wii Remote, and it must not already be claimed by another remote. Dolphin’s controller guide.
- Use the correct connection action: Press 1 + 2 on a standard remote; use Sync on an RVL-CNT-01-TR Wii Remote Plus. The older RVL-CNT-01 and -TR models differ in their pairing behavior, and the older model’s pairing behavior is not supported on -TR. WiiBrew’s Wiimote reference; Dolphin’s controller guide.
- Keep nearby consoles off while pairing: Dolphin recommends turning off nearby Wii or Wii U consoles during the connection process. Dolphin’s controller guide.
- Check Bluetooth compatibility: Connection behavior can vary with the adapter, its driver, operating system, and remote revision. If the native Bluetooth stack fails, Touchmote identifies DolphinBar as an option for some setups; verify compatibility for your specific combination rather than assuming any dongle or bar will work. Using a Wii Remote during Dolphin netplay
Dolphin’s netplay guide says the Real Wii Remote option itself is not supported for netplay. To use a physical remote, connect it through Connect Wii Remotes for Emulated Controllers. The guide describes Wii Remote netplay as experimental and especially sensitive to desynchronization; when a game supports a GameCube controller, Dolphin recommends using one if possible.
