You can use a supported GoPro as a webcam for streaming by connecting it to your computer over USB-C, installing GoPro’s Webcam App, and selecting the GoPro as the camera in streaming software such as OBS. Check whether your GoPro is supported
GoPro’s current Webcam App listing includes HERO8 Black and newer cameras, including HERO8, HERO9, HERO10, HERO11, and HERO12 Black. It specifically excludes HERO11 Mini and MAX. Set up your GoPro as a webcam for streaming
- Install the GoPro Webcam App. Use GoPro’s official instructions for your computer and camera. GoPro identifies the app as the software needed to use the HERO10 as a webcam.
- Connect the camera by USB-C. The HERO10 manual specifies the included USB-C cable. Use a suitable data cable; you do not need to buy a replacement if the supplied cable works.
- Put the camera in webcam mode. GoPro says both the camera and computer must be set up for webcam mode before going live. HERO9 and HERO10-era manuals describe webcam mode as the default; the HERO9 manual also describes changing USB Connection to “GoPro Connect” if needed. Menus differ by model, so check the manual for your camera rather than assuming that setting appears on every generation.
- Open your streaming software and select the camera. In OBS or another compatible application, add or select the GoPro webcam as the video source. GoPro’s app listing names OBS among the compatible applications.
- Preview and frame the shot. Confirm the image is visible and positioned as intended before starting the stream. A desk mount or tripod can help keep the camera steady, but it is optional and does not enable webcam mode by itself.
GoPro’s HERO10 manual puts the key requirement plainly: “Both your GoPro and computer must be set up for webcam mode before you go live.” Exact menus and available controls depend on the camera model, operating system, Webcam App version, and streaming application.

Webcam mode is different from streaming in the GoPro mobile app
In webcam mode, the computer receives the GoPro as a camera source, and software such as OBS handles the stream. This is the right workflow when you want to use the GoPro as a webcam within a computer-based streaming setup.
GoPro’s separate in-camera live-streaming guide describes using the GoPro mobile app to send a live stream to a destination. The 2020 guide lists Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube, and says other compatible services can be configured with RTMP or RTMPS URLs; it says RTSP and HLS URLs are not supported. Because that guidance dates to 2020, check the destination platform’s current streaming and account requirements rather than assuming the listed options remain unchanged.

Optional gear and framing
- USB-C cable: The documented USB webcam route uses USB-C. The HERO10 manual says its included cable can be used, so buy a replacement only if you lack a suitable working cable.
- Mount or tripod: A GoPro-compatible desk mount or tripod may make stationary framing easier. It is optional.
The cited GoPro instructions do not establish an external microphone, capture card, or other add-on as necessary for this USB-app workflow.
Troubleshooting
- The camera does not appear in the streaming app: Confirm your model is on the Webcam App’s compatibility list, the app is installed and open, and the camera is connected over USB-C. Then check that the camera and computer are set up for webcam mode.
- The camera connects but the preview is missing: Re-select the GoPro webcam as the camera source in your streaming application and check the app’s camera permissions and source settings.
- You cannot find the “GoPro Connect” setting: That menu instruction is described for HERO9-era guidance and may not match your model. Consult the manual for the exact camera rather than treating the path as universal.
- You use Windows and cannot confirm compatibility: The available product-page note that Windows was “in beta” does not confirm current installer requirements. Follow GoPro’s current download and setup page for your system.
