Connect a controller and check compatibility
Epic lists the following controllers as supported for Rocket League on PC: DualShock 4 (PS4), DualSense (PS5), Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam Controller. That list applies to PC; it does not establish support for every third-party device or every console version. Check compatibility for your own platform before buying a controller. If you are choosing between supported PC models, prioritize compatibility with your setup, a layout you recognize, comfort, and availability. Find and change your controller bindings
- Open Rocket League’s Settings.
- Select Controls, then View/Change Bindings.
- Review the actions shown for your controller and change any binding that feels awkward or conflicts with another action.
Use the button names and prompts displayed in your game: labels can differ across controllers and platforms. Epic says almost any button can be rebound from the Controls section, but that does not mean you need to copy someone else’s layout. Learn the essential actions in practice
Open Free Play and work on one action at a time. Free Play is a warm-up environment, and its settings let you adjust game speed and boost modes. For ball-control bindings specific to Free Play, go to Settings > Controls > View/Change Bindings and scroll to the Free Play controls. Epic’s Free Play settings and binding instructions.
- Jump: Hold the Jump button to jump higher.
- Boost: Use Boost to accelerate; in the air, tap or feather it to manage altitude rather than holding it automatically.
- Dodge: A forward dodge can build speed without using Boost.
- Handbrake: Use it to turn more quickly than with normal steering.
- Air Roll: Use it while falling to help land cleanly on the wheels.
- Jump and Boost together: Holding both is the quickest way to gain aerial altitude.
These are gameplay techniques, not a guarantee of better match results. Learn how each input responds before combining several actions.

Adjust control feel and camera visibility
Deadzone and sensitivity
Controller deadzone affects steering and aerial sensitivity. If the car feels too sensitive or does not respond as readily as you expect, make a small adjustment, then test it in Free Play before changing anything else. Camera settings are separate from button bindings, but they affect what you can see while steering. In the in-game Camera tab, you can adjust field of view (FOV), height, angle, distance, stiffness, swivel speed, camera shake, and the ball-cam indicator. Change settings individually so you can tell what improves visibility for you; the available guidance does not establish one best configuration. Rocket League’s camera settings guide.

Troubleshoot a controller that is not recognized on Steam
These checks apply to the Steam version on PC; they are troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes.
- Inspect Steam’s current controller settings and confirm they are configured appropriately for your device. Steam’s menu labels may change, so follow the options shown in your version.
- Disconnect other USB devices before launching Rocket League, then check whether the controller is recognized.
