Yes—Samsung says Galaxy SmartTag3 works with iPhone for core finding and sharing features through SmartThings Find. You need an iPhone running iOS 17 or later, the SmartThings app, and a Samsung Account. Some features available on Galaxy devices—including Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert—are not available on iOS.

Before you start

  • iPhone: iOS 17 or later is Samsung’s stated minimum for SmartTag3. Although SmartThings’ general App Store support listing gives a lower iOS minimum, follow the stricter product-specific requirement. Samsung SmartThings and the Apple App Store listing provide app information.
  • App and account: Install Samsung SmartThings and sign in with a Samsung Account, or create one.
  • Permissions: Allow Bluetooth and local-network access when iOS prompts you, so the app can find and communicate with the tag.

Set up SmartTag3 on your iPhone

  1. Install SmartThings. Get Samsung SmartThings from the Apple App Store, open it and sign in to your Samsung Account.
  2. Allow requested access. Accept Bluetooth and local-network permissions when prompted. If you previously denied a permission, enable it for SmartThings in the iPhone’s Settings.
  3. Activate the tag. Press the SmartTag3 button, then keep the tag near your iPhone.
  4. Add it in the app. Follow the current on-screen prompts in SmartThings to register the tag and complete its settings. Samsung’s general SmartTag support instructions describe button activation followed by in-app prompts; they are not a SmartTag3-specific iPhone walkthrough, so labels or screens may differ. See Samsung’s SmartTag setup guidance.
5. Find or share its location. Open SmartThings Find and select the tag to use the supported finding and sharing options. Search Nearby is available on supported iOS devices. Samsung introduced SmartTag3 cross-OS support for core finding and sharing in its SmartTag3 announcement.

What works on iPhone—and what does not

SmartTag3 is the first Galaxy SmartTag generation Samsung says supports core finding and sharing across Galaxy and iOS devices. That does not mean the iPhone receives every Galaxy feature. Samsung identifies Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert as unavailable on iOS; availability can vary by platform. Check Samsung’s SmartTag3 product information for its feature details.

  • Finding and sharing: Use SmartThings Find for the supported core features.
  • Search Nearby: Available on supported iOS devices; follow the app’s prompts.
  • Ring Phone: Not available on iOS. Samsung also says the tag’s Ring feature requires the tag to be connected to a smartphone or tablet.
  • Compass View and Left Behind Alert: Not available on iOS.

How location updates work

SmartTag3 is not a GPS tracker that continuously reports its position through your iPhone. Samsung says the Galaxy Find Network can update a tag’s location through nearby participating Galaxy devices. Updates therefore depend on those devices being nearby and on the environment; a location alert may be delayed or may not arrive. See Samsung’s SmartTag support information and launch announcement.

Prepare Lost Mode before you need it

Register your contact information and a message in SmartThings before the tag goes missing. A person who finds the tag must have an NFC-capable device and internet access to scan it and display that information. Lost Mode is not a guarantee that someone will find or scan the tag. Samsung explains the feature in its SmartTag support guidance.

Availability and battery-life claims

Samsung’s September 30, 2026 announcement says SmartTag3 availability begins in Korea on October 7, 2026, followed by the U.S., but it does not give an exact U.S. retail date. Check Samsung or local retailers for current stock before buying. Samsung’s published specifications also claim up to 550 days of battery life under standard usage and up to 790 days in power-saving mode; these are manufacturer figures, not independent test results, and actual life can vary with use and conditions. Samsung says the tag is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation. Samsung Global Newsroom’s announcement has the launch details and qualifications.

If you plan to attach the tag to keys, a bag or luggage, Samsung lists a silicone case with keyring and a loop case as separate accessories. Confirm SmartTag3 compatibility and local availability before choosing a case.
