Usually, no—not if the Galaxy Note20 has been factory-reset and is asking for the Google account previously synced to it. That screen is Google Device Protection, an anti-theft ownership check. A reset does not remove it, and another reset will erase data without satisfying the check. The legitimate options are to recover the linked Google account or contact Samsung-authorized support with proof of purchase.
“Unlock” can mean different things: a forgotten screen-lock PIN or pattern, a Samsung password requested during a reset from Settings, or Google account verification during setup after a reset. The steps depend on which prompt is on the screen.

Identify which account or lock the Note20 is asking for
- Screen-lock prompt: The phone has not necessarily been reset; it is asking for the device’s PIN, pattern, or password.
- Google account verification during setup: This appears after a reset on a device protected by Google Device Protection. Samsung says a Recovery-menu reset may require the Google account previously linked to the Galaxy. Google explains that a protected device can require an account previously added and synced to it. - Samsung account prompt during a reset from Settings: This is separate from Google verification. Samsung says a Samsung account password may be required to complete a reset initiated in Settings when a Samsung account is on the device. See Samsung’s reset guidance.
Google and Samsung describe protections for Android and Galaxy devices generally; the guidance cited here does not establish one account-free unlock method for every Note20 software version, ownership history, or region.

Try the previously synced Google account
Enter a Google account that was added to and synced with this phone before it was reset. If you have used more than one account on the device, try the eligible accounts you recognize. Depending on the device and software, setup may also ask for a prior screen-lock PIN, password, or pattern. Google’s guidance explains the verification requirement; it does not offer a way to bypass it without proving ownership.

Recover the account if you cannot sign in
If you have forgotten the email address or password, use Google Account Recovery. If you have just changed the Google password, Google advises waiting 24 hours before doing a factory reset; Samsung also describes a 24-hour cooldown before a new password may unlock the device. Do not keep resetting the phone in the hope that the wait or verification requirement will disappear. See Google’s account-recovery guidance and Samsung’s Google Device Protection support page.
Ask Samsung about authorized service if recovery fails
If you are the owner but cannot recover the linked Google account, contact Samsung support and ask about service for a device that cannot complete Google verification. Samsung US says an owner who cannot remember Google account information can send the device, along with proof of purchase, to an authorized Samsung Service Center. Service procedures can vary by country, so confirm the process with Samsung in your region.

Why another reset is not an unlock
Google Device Protection is intended to verify ownership after a reset. Samsung says it can be triggered by a Recovery-menu reset, and Google’s guidance explains that a protected phone may require an account previously synced to it. A factory reset erases personal data stored on the phone; it does not establish ownership or remove the verification requirement. Google’s reset information is at Erase or reset your Android device.
That is why a reset is not an account-recovery shortcut. If the phone is already at the Google verification screen, the useful next step is account recovery or Samsung-authorized assistance—not another reset.

What to do next
- Read the wording on the screen and identify whether it requests the screen lock, a Samsung account password, or the previously synced Google account.
- If it is Google verification, try an account that was previously added and synced to the Note20.
- If you cannot sign in, recover the Google account. After a recent password change, wait 24 hours before trying to use the new password to complete setup.
- If you cannot recover the account, contact Samsung in your region about authorized service and have proof of purchase ready.
A third-party unlock tool or another factory reset is not a substitute for the linked account or proof-of-ownership route described by Samsung and Google.
