A typical CAPTCHA solver API integration authenticates with a provider key, submits a challenge-specific task, tracks the returned task ID, and retrieves the result asynchronously. Use that result only in a system you own or are explicitly authorized to test: an API’s technical capabilities do not grant permission to automate against another organization’s service or override its terms.
Understand the API workflow
The 2Captcha API v2 documentation describes a task-based sequence. The exact fields, response handling, and challenge handoff vary by provider and challenge type.
- Choose a supported task type. Check the provider’s current task catalog and the corresponding method guide; supported types and parameters can change.
- Gather the task parameters. Supply the challenge-specific information required by that task type. Do not assume that one CAPTCHA’s fields apply to another.
- Submit the task from your backend. Authenticate with your API key and send the task in the format the provider documents.
- Track the task ID. A successful task-creation response includes an identifier to use when checking for the result.
- Handle the result and errors. Poll for completion or use a callback if the provider and task support it. Apply timeouts and handle provider errors rather than treating every response as a completed result.
- Use the result only in the authorized workflow. A returned value does not guarantee the target system will accept it.
- Record outcomes safely. Log task IDs, statuses, and non-sensitive diagnostic details; do not log API keys or expose them to users.
The 2Captcha API v2 quick-start documents the create-task, retrieve-result, and correctness-feedback pattern. Its API overview describes QA and automation testing as possible contexts, but that vendor description is not a determination of legal permission or authorization for a particular site. 2Captcha API overview
Example: create a task with 2Captcha API v2
The method reference specifies a JSON POST to https://api.2captcha.com/createTask, with a required clientKey and task object. The following is a request-shape example, not a complete challenge-specific payload: fill in the task object using the current guide for the challenge in your authorized test environment.

On success, the documented response includes errorId: 0 and a taskId; the method can also return an error code. Keep the key in a server-side secret store or environment variable rather than embedding it in frontend JavaScript, a mobile app, or a public repository. 2Captcha createTask method reference
Retrieve results and handle asynchronous completion
Once you have a task ID, request its result using the provider’s documented getTaskResult method. A task may not be ready when first checked, so your application should distinguish a pending task from a completed result and from an error.
- Set a bounded timeout and a retry policy appropriate to your authorized test. Avoid an unbounded polling loop.
- Respect any provider-documented polling guidance, retryable errors, and callback behavior.
- If using a callback URL, expose only the endpoint needed for the workflow and validate incoming requests according to the provider’s documented mechanism.
- Keep task state explicit in your application—for example, submitted, pending, completed, failed, or timed out—so a delayed response cannot be mistaken for success.
- Do not assume that a successful solver response means the page accepted the result. Confirm the expected outcome in your own test system.
The 2Captcha quick-start also describes sending correctness feedback with reportCorrect or reportIncorrect. Consult the current provider documentation for the exact request schema and when those methods apply. 2Captcha API v2 quick-start

Pass a result only through the challenge’s documented interface
How a result is handed off depends on the challenge and the application being tested. For example, 2Captcha’s reCAPTCHA v2 guide says its returned token can be placed in the g-recaptcha-response form field or passed to a callback. That is a provider-specific example, not a universal rule for other CAPTCHA systems. Use it only on an owned or authorized test page and follow the current challenge-specific instructions. 2Captcha reCAPTCHA v2 guide
Keep credentials and test scope under control
- Protect the API key: store it server-side, restrict access, and rotate it if it is exposed. Never place it in browser-delivered code.
- Limit the target: point test automation at staging, a vendor-provided demo, or another environment for which you have explicit authorization.
- Minimize logs: keep useful status and error context, but omit credentials and avoid storing challenge data unnecessarily.
- Verify scope and terms: provider documentation explains API mechanics; it does not establish permission to automate a third-party service.
- Recheck documentation: task availability, required properties, and API behavior may change, so verify the current task guide before deployment.
Troubleshoot common integration problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Task creation returns an error instead of a task ID | Missing or invalid key, malformed JSON, or task properties that do not match the selected type | Check the required clientKey, JSON syntax, endpoint, and current task-specific field definitions. |
| The task remains pending | The result is asynchronous and is not ready at the time of the check | Track the task ID, apply a bounded polling strategy, and follow the provider’s current result or callback instructions. |
| A result is returned but the test page rejects it | The result may have been passed through the wrong challenge interface, may no longer be applicable, or the test flow may have other validation requirements | Verify the challenge-specific handoff method and inspect the authorized test application’s response. Do not treat a returned result as guaranteed acceptance. |
| Requests work locally but fail in deployment | The deployed service may not have the secret configured, may be unable to reach the endpoint, or may be using a different request format | Check server-side secret configuration, outbound connectivity, request headers, and sanitized error logs. |
| Unexpected charges or excess task submissions | Retries, polling, or duplicate submissions may be occurring more often than intended | Use idempotent application-level task tracking where practical, set retry limits, and review provider usage and billing controls. |
Choose a provider for the authorized workload
Compare providers against the actual test requirements rather than assuming a capability list proves performance. Useful factors include supported challenge types, task-specific parameters, polling and callback options, language libraries, error handling, credential controls, observability, and total cost for the workload. The documentation reviewed here does not establish comparable prices, solve rates, response times, or accuracy for multiple providers. Anti-Captcha publishes API documentation, but its details are not assessed here closely enough for a balanced product comparison. Anti-Captcha API documentation

If what you need is a clean screenshot of a web page—not a CAPTCHA-solving workflow—ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its capture flow can accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before taking the shot; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed as clean shots, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers.
