You can use OVHcloud Object Storage to hold a video and send that video repeatedly to YouTube Live, but the bucket alone cannot create or loop a live broadcast. The workflow needs three parts: upload the file to an S3-compatible OVHcloud bucket, connect it to a playback and encoding setup that can access and repeat it, then send the resulting live feed to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio.
OVHcloud’s documentation confirms the storage role, and YouTube’s documentation describes encoder ingest. The sources do not establish that a particular encoder can play an OVHcloud object directly or specify its loop controls, so those details must be verified for the encoder you choose.

What you need for the workflow
Object Storage is the file store, not the live-stream encoder. OVHcloud supports static files such as video in its S3 Object Storage classes, accessed through an S3-compatible API. YouTube’s live workflow, by contrast, expects an encoder—software or standalone hardware—to send the stream to YouTube.

- A video file uploaded to that bucket.
- A playback and encoder arrangement that can access the video and repeat playback. Confirm both capabilities in that encoder’s current documentation; the sources here do not establish direct S3 playback or a specific loop setting.
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming, plus the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio.
OVHcloud also has older Swift Object Storage classes. Do not assume their access protocol is interchangeable with S3: the S3 classes use an S3-compatible API, while the older Swift classes use Swift.

1. Upload the video to OVHcloud Object Storage
- Create or select an S3-compatible Object Storage bucket. Choose the intended region and check the current endpoint and the selected storage class’s rules in OVHcloud’s documentation.
- Upload the video. You can use the OVHcloud control panel or an S3-compatible client. OVHcloud identifies AWS CLI,
s3cmd, and other commands as ways to access S3 Object Storage; exact endpoints depend on region. Follow the current endpoint instructions rather than copying an endpoint for another region or storage class. - Confirm the object is available to your playback setup. Stored objects are private by default. Determine how the selected encoder or playback service will obtain the file before starting a broadcast.
OVHcloud’s FAQ discusses presigned URLs for temporary downloads, but a URL working for downloads does not prove that a particular encoder can ingest or loop it. Verify support with the encoder’s documentation before relying on direct playback from a bucket.
2. Make the file available to a playback and encoder setup
The chosen arrangement must retrieve or otherwise access the stored video, play it as a continuous source, and encode that playback for YouTube Live. The official OVHcloud and YouTube pages cited here do not verify whether a specific encoder accepts an OVHcloud object URL, a presigned URL, or another access method, nor do they establish the exact repeat-playback setting.

Before configuring a long broadcast, check the encoder’s own current documentation for these points:

- Whether it can repeat a file or playlist continuously, and what happens at the end of playback.
- How it handles a temporary or expiring source URL, if you use one.
- Whether playback and encoding continue if the source becomes unreachable or the encoder restarts.
If direct object playback is not supported, you will need another documented way to make the media available to the encoder. Do not treat a public object or a presigned link as a substitute for verifying compatibility and access controls.

3. Configure YouTube Live and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream you intend to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Enter them in the encoder’s YouTube or RTMP settings, following that encoder’s instructions. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains this ingest workflow.
- Check the preview before starting the broadcast. Confirm the stream has both picture and sound in YouTube’s Live Control Room, then start the broadcast according to the selected stream’s settings.
YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key out of public guides, screenshots, source repositories, and public bucket configuration. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement.
4. Check eligibility, bandwidth, and stream quality
- Confirm live access is enabled. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Activating live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours.
- Leave bandwidth headroom. YouTube recommends checking outbound bandwidth and allowing capacity above the stream bitrate. The documentation cited here does not establish a bitrate for your chosen resolution or encoder, so use the encoder’s and YouTube’s current guidance for your settings.
- Test before relying on a long run. Check the image and audio in the preview and monitor stream quality after going live. A successful upload to Object Storage does not itself confirm that the encoder can retrieve, repeat, and deliver the video continuously.
Access, security, and operating considerations
Protect storage access
OVHcloud says objects are private by default and documents presigned URLs for temporary downloads. Anyone who obtains a presigned URL can download the item, so treat it as a bearer link: do not publish it, and consider its validity and exposure when selecting an access method.

Protect the YouTube stream key
Keep the stream key private and limit access to the encoder configuration that contains it. If the key is exposed, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and replace it in the encoder.

Troubleshooting the pipeline
