The exact destination and control-panel labels differ by provider. The procedure below shows the shared workflow and the documented paths for several common panels, while highlighting where a path must be adapted to your host.

A dedicated server can load a local world, but it does not automatically discover a save copied to an arbitrary directory. The server must be offline while files are changed, the world must be in the multiplayer save structure, and the active slot must point at the numbered folder you uploaded.

- Back up the local save outside the game’s normal save directory.
- Use the multiplayer version of the world. A single-player save must be converted locally before it is uploaded.
- Identify the numbered folder for the world you want to move.
- Stop the dedicated server completely.
- Upload the folder (or a zip containing it) to the provider’s multiplayer save directory.
- Set
SaveSlotor the panel’s Save Slot value to the uploaded folder number. Select Continue if the panel exposes Save Mode. - Save the configuration, start the server, and join to confirm the expected structures and progression are present.
Prepare the local world before uploading
Make an independent backup
Do not edit or upload the only copy of your save. Copy the entire local save area, or at minimum the SteamID64 folder containing the target multiplayer world, to a separate location such as another drive. Keep this copy until the dedicated-server version has been opened and checked. It is the recovery point if an upload overwrites the wrong slot, an archive is extracted one level too deep, or player data does not appear as expected.
Convert a single-player save to multiplayer first
A single-player world is not interchangeable with a dedicated-server multiplayer world. Game Host Bros states: “You MUST convert any single player save to a multiplayer save on your local PC before uploading it to your server.” The practical implication is that you should open the world locally in the game’s multiplayer context, save it there, and upload the resulting multiplayer save rather than the original single-player folder. The cited provider guidance does not promise that every character attribute will survive this conversion, so retain the original save as well as the converted copy.
Find the save directory and the correct world folder
On Windows, Game Host Bros places local saves at:
%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowEndnightSonsOfTheForestSaves
Inside that directory, locate the folder named for your SteamID64. The multiplayer world is in that account folder’s Multiplayer subfolder. The individual worlds are represented by numbered folders. Open the candidate folders only far enough to identify the one with the structures and progression you recognize; do not rename it at this stage because its number is used by the server’s slot setting.

Choose the upload format
Nodecraft recommends creating a .zip archive before uploading. A zip is useful when a browser file manager cannot transfer a directory tree reliably, and it gives you a single file to retry if the connection fails. Other panels accept the folder directly. Whichever method you use, check the extraction level afterward: the server should see the world’s save files directly inside the numbered folder, not inside an extra nested folder created by an incorrectly packaged archive.
Stop the server before touching its files
Shut the server down from the provider’s control panel and wait until its status shows that it is fully stopped. Instructions from Kinetic Hosting, Shockbyte, Nitrado, and Legion Hosting all put shutdown before file changes. Editing while the process is running can leave the server with an incomplete copy or allow it to write the old state back over your upload during shutdown.
If the panel has separate buttons for restart and stop, use Stop first. Do not begin an upload while a restart is still pending. When the panel offers a console, wait for the process to exit rather than relying only on the page’s button animation.
Upload the world to the provider’s save directory
Use the host’s file manager or FTP/SFTP credentials to reach its save directory. The folder name and capitalization matter. These documented destinations show why you must follow your provider’s current panel rather than blindly copying a path from another host.

Across hosts, the common logical destination is Saves/DedicatedServer/Multiplayer; the leading directory is what changes. If your provider uses a different root, navigate by its labels until you reach Saves, then DedicatedServer, then Multiplayer. Do not create a second parallel save tree merely because the root name differs.
Upload a folder through a web file manager
- Open the stopped server’s file manager and navigate to the provider-specific destination.
- If the panel supports directory upload, select the numbered world folder and wait for every file to finish.
- If it accepts only files, upload the zip recommended by Nodecraft.
- Use the panel’s extract or unzip action in the
Multiplayerdirectory. - Inspect the result. The path should end in
Multiplayer<slot-number>(or the equivalent slash notation), with the save files inside that numbered folder.
The angle-bracket notation above is descriptive: replace <slot-number> with the actual numeric folder name. Do not upload the entire local Saves directory when the host is asking for the contents of DedicatedServer/Multiplayer; doing so usually creates an extra directory level the server will not scan.
Use FTP or SFTP when the browser upload fails
Nodecraft specifically recommends trying FTP if a panel upload does not work. Connect with the host’s supplied credentials, browse to the same provider-specific destination, and transfer the numbered folder or archive there. FTP/SFTP is also useful for large saves because it can resume or retry a failed transfer more predictably than a browser tab. After transferring an archive, extract it with the host’s file manager if the FTP account does not provide an extraction command.

Point the server at the uploaded slot
Match Save Slot to the folder number
The server’s active slot must match the number on the uploaded folder. Some hosts expose a Save Slot field in the panel; others require editing SaveSlot in dedicatedserver.cfg. Enter the same number in both cases. For example, if the uploaded directory is numbered 3, the active slot must be 3, not the order in which the folder appears in the file manager.

If you upload several worlds, each can retain its own numbered folder, but only the value selected by Save Slot is loaded at startup. Changing the setting without moving or renaming the corresponding folder simply points the server at a slot that may not contain your world.
Select Continue when Save Mode is available
Some control panels provide a Save Mode selector. Choose Continue when you want the server to open the existing uploaded world. A mode intended to create a new world can bypass the copied save even when the files and slot number are correct. Save the panel settings after changing the mode or slot before starting the server.

- Save the configuration changes.
- Start the server and wait for it to finish loading.
- Join with the expected multiplayer profile.
- Check recognizable buildings, terrain changes, storage, and progression rather than relying only on the server’s online status.
- Leave the original local and uploaded backup copies untouched until these checks succeed.
Nitrado summarizes the intended result this way: “If everything works, your server should load your local world!” That outcome depends on the correct multiplayer save, destination, extraction level, slot, and mode; an online server alone does not prove that the right world was selected.

Troubleshoot a server that starts a new or empty world
The server loads a fresh world
- Stop the server again before inspecting files.
- Confirm that the uploaded folder is inside
DedicatedServer/Multiplayer, not one directory above or below it. - Open the folder and verify that it is the numbered world directory, not a zip that was never extracted and not a second nested copy of the same folder.
- Check that Save Slot or
SaveSlotexactly matches that number. - If Save Mode exists, set it to Continue.
After correcting one item, restart and test again. Keep the server stopped while making each correction so it cannot write a new state over the files you are checking.
The panel rejects the upload or the archive
- Retry with the numbered folder compressed as a
.zip, as Nodecraft recommends. - Use FTP/SFTP when the browser file manager times out or silently omits files.
- After extraction, inspect the resulting directory depth and confirm that the archive did not create
Multiplayerworld-folderworld-folder. - Check available storage and the transfer log in the panel before deleting the local backup.
The world loads but a player’s inventory is wrong
Do not assume that the original host’s inventory or character state will migrate completely. The provider guidance emphasizes moving the world, but it does not promise full player-state transfer. Preserve valuable items in world containers before migration when possible, and keep the original save until every player has checked the dedicated-server copy. This precaution protects the world’s shared progress even if an individual character needs to be recreated or corrected.
The instructions do not match the panel
Shockbyte warns that its published procedure uses an old control panel. Treat its path and labels as an example, then use the current interface’s equivalent file manager, Save Slot, Save Mode, and configuration controls. The same principle applies when a host changes its root directory: the stable target is the provider’s current Saves/DedicatedServer/Multiplayer location, not a historical screenshot or an old menu name.
How host workflows differ
The migration itself is the same, but the amount of manual work depends on the host’s tools. Before choosing or contacting a provider, check these five capabilities in its current documentation:
- File-manager versus FTP/SFTP access: a browser manager is convenient for a small transfer; FTP/SFTP provides an alternative when the browser upload fails.
- Directory upload versus zip-only upload: Nodecraft recommends a zip, while other panels accept a folder directly. Confirm whether extraction is available in the panel.
- Save-slot control: determine whether Save Slot is a form field or whether you must edit
SaveSlotindedicatedserver.cfg. - Backup and download facilities: verify that you can download or duplicate the server save before trying another migration.
- Panel currency: compare the guide’s labels with the live interface. Shockbyte’s warning about its old panel demonstrates why screenshots and paths can become stale.
These checks matter more than a provider’s root-folder name. A host that lets you stop the process, upload or extract the world, edit the slot, and restore a backup gives you a controlled migration path even when its directory prefix differs from another provider’s.
