Move the files to the VPS first; that transfer does not upload them to YouTube or start a live stream. After the transfer, either upload each finished video through YouTube or use an encoder on the VPS to broadcast prerecorded material as YouTube Live. The right transfer method depends on where the folder is now, your operating system, VPS access, file count and connection stability—there is no single India-to-VPS command or speed that fits every setup.
Choose the right workflow first

A YouTube upload is an archived video. A live stream is an encoder’s ongoing broadcast. Transferring a folder to a VPS is a separate first step in either case.

Plan the folder transfer from India to the VPS
Check the source, destination and capacity
- Identify where the folder is now: a computer, an attached drive, or cloud storage. The appropriate transfer route differs by source.
- Check the VPS provider’s disk capacity, server region and sustained outbound-transfer policy. Ask the provider whether your intended encoder workload is permitted if the VPS will broadcast.
- Count the files as well as estimating their total size. Many small files can behave differently from a few large ones, especially when a service applies per-file limits.
- Choose a transfer method suitable for your operating system and the access your VPS provider supplies. Use secure remote file transfer, and prefer a method that can resume if the connection drops.
No particular VPS provider, India route, tariff or transfer command is established here. Your observed sustained speed, ISP route, server location, file size and congestion determine actual transfer time; avoid relying on a generic speed estimate.

Transfer and verify before starting the next operation
- Connect to the VPS using the secure access method supported by your provider.
- Copy the folder to a location with enough free disk space. If your transfer tool supports resuming, use that feature for a large transfer over an unreliable connection.
- Check that the expected files and subfolders arrived and that file sizes look plausible. For a critical library, compare file checksums where your tools support it.
- Only after verification, begin the YouTube upload or configure the encoder. A successful copy to the VPS does not publish or broadcast the files.
If the files are in Google Drive
rclone supports Google Drive and can copy between supported endpoints. Its documentation describes a local-directory-to-Drive example, but that does not mean staging files in Drive automatically transfers them to YouTube. Google Drive’s documented rate limitation can constrain transfers of many small files to about two files per second; this is a stated limitation, not a guaranteed speed for every account or transfer. The rclone documentation also says its shared client ID is being retired during 2026 and directs users to create their own, so check its current setup guidance before configuring a Drive remote. Upload each video to YouTube
Use YouTube’s browser upload for a straightforward job
For ordinary publishing, use YouTube’s upload page and select the video files. Upload time depends on file size, internet bandwidth, upload traffic, format and quality; YouTube notes that higher-quality files such as 4K take longer than 1080p. If an upload is merely slow, YouTube advises letting it finish. If a browser upload stops, return to the upload page and select the same file: YouTube says you have up to 24 hours to continue where it left off. Use resumable uploads for an application or unreliable connection
For a programmatic uploader, YouTube’s Data API resumable protocol is designed to recover from interruptions. YouTube’s documentation says, “You can upload videos more reliably by using the resumable upload protocol for Google APIs.” The client initiates an upload session, saves the returned session URI, and sends the video bytes. If interrupted, query the session status: a 308 Resume Incomplete response with a Range header indicates how many bytes YouTube has received. Resume at the next byte, without skipping or overlapping bytes. The session URI is not permanent, so do not leave an interrupted session idle indefinitely. Estimate time using each leg’s actual throughput
For a local source, measure sustained throughput from your computer to the VPS; if the VPS then uploads the video to YouTube, measure that second leg separately. A transfer through cloud storage may add another copy and another service’s limits. No India-specific ISP speed, route measurement or guaranteed VPS-to-YouTube rate is established, so use observed throughput and leave room for interruptions rather than promising an exact completion time.

Prepare the channel and encoder
YouTube’s encoder setup explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format YouTube can receive, and lists OBS among software encoder options. In a VPS workflow, the VPS runs the encoder, the files are its inputs, and the encoder sends the live stream to YouTube. Enable live streaming on the channel before scheduling the work: YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Set up the stream safely
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and obtain its stream key using YouTube’s current live-control workflow.
- Configure the encoder on the VPS to use the intended video inputs and YouTube ingest details. Follow the encoder and YouTube instructions for the stream format and settings; requirements can change, so check current guidance rather than assuming a setting from an old tutorial.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel; do not put it in a public script, screenshot or shared log.
- Start with a short test and confirm the preview appears in YouTube Studio before relying on a long scheduled broadcast.
Review rights and channel policy before looping material
Only broadcast videos and audio you have the rights to use. A prerecorded loop is still a YouTube broadcast and may trigger copyright claims or other policy enforcement; permission to possess a file is not necessarily permission to stream it. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies, especially if you plan repeated or reused material. Do not assume that a long-running stream is automatically eligible for monetization.
Troubleshoot the likely failure points
