You can stream a folder of MP3s on YouTube around the clock by sending the playlist and a looping visual from a computer-based encoder to a YouTube live event. First make sure you have streaming rights to every recording and composition; owning or downloading an MP3 does not grant those rights. YouTube can interrupt a live stream when it detects third-party content, and a repetitive 24/7 loop is not a guarantee of monetization.
Before you start: check channel access and music rights
Make sure the channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16. If livestreaming has never been enabled on the channel, activation may take up to 24 hours. Check the channel in YouTube Studio before planning a launch: YouTube’s livestreaming access requirements.

Confirm rights to both the recording and the song
For every track, account for rights in the sound recording and in the underlying composition. Use music you created and control, or obtain permission or licences that cover YouTube livestreaming and the territories where you intend to make it available. A purchased or downloaded MP3—and a label such as “royalty-free” on its own—does not establish that you have those permissions.

One-click scans. No signup required.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you have a licence and a track is nevertheless detected, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube also places responsibility for necessary rights on the content provider in its Livestream terms and conditions.

What you need for a local MP3 stream
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- A computer with access to the MP3 folder, able to stay on and connected to the internet while the broadcast runs.
- Software that can send an audio playlist and a video image or visualizer to YouTube. YouTube documents the encoder connection, but does not prescribe a particular MP3 playlist application or guarantee unattended looping; check the selected software’s current media-source and repeat controls.
- A visual source, such as artwork you have permission to use or an original visualizer. A YouTube live stream needs a video feed as well as sound.
- Streaming rights for every track and for any artwork or other visual material in the broadcast.
An existing computer may be enough. A separate small desktop or mini PC is an optional way to dedicate a machine to the encoder, not a YouTube requirement; no minimum hardware specification is established here. Check the chosen encoder’s own requirements before buying equipment.
Create the YouTube live event and connect the encoder
- Open the live controls: in YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Choose the Stream tab for an immediate event, or open Manage to schedule one. A scheduled event can provide a watch page and reminder option for viewers.
- Set the event details: add a title, choose visibility, and fill in the other relevant metadata. Do not imply that the tracks are licensed or yours unless that is true.
- Copy the connection details: in Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your event. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
- Build the outgoing feed: add the MP3 folder or playlist as the encoder’s audio source, enable repeat or looping, and add a video source. Confirm that the playlist advances and returns to its beginning as intended. Test the whole feed; do not assume a playlist will keep running unattended just because it plays once.
- Wait for YouTube’s preview: start sending the feed from the encoder, then confirm that Live Control Room receives picture and sound and reports a healthy stream before selecting the control to go live.
YouTube explains the encoder workflow in its live encoder setup guide. Keep the stream key private throughout setup and operation.

Set audio, video and network settings
Use settings supported by both the encoder and your connection. YouTube’s general recommendations for RTMP/RTMPS include the following; they are platform recommendations, not a requirement to re-encode each source MP3 in a particular way:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Setting | YouTube recommendation or guidance | Practical check |
|---|---|---|
| Transport | RTMPS is recommended for encrypted transport. | Use the protocol and server URL provided in Live Control Room and supported by the encoder. |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 are listed in YouTube’s general settings. | Choose only a codec your encoder supports and verify the incoming stream in Live Control Room. |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended; no more than four seconds. | Set the encoder’s keyframe interval accordingly if the control is available. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3. | Check the encoder’s outgoing audio settings rather than assuming the input file’s format is unchanged. |
| Stereo audio | 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps are listed recommendations. | Check for clean, continuous sound in the preview and monitor the broadcast after launch. |
See YouTube’s live encoder settings for its current technical guidance. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with a 20% margin beyond the stream bitrate. That headroom helps accommodate connection variation; it does not guarantee uninterrupted service. Avoid choosing a bitrate your internet connection cannot sustain.

Test, launch and monitor the broadcast
- Check the computer’s upload connection and leave the recommended bandwidth headroom.
- Inspect the Live Control Room preview for both picture and audio. Confirm that the visual remains present and the playlist behaves as expected.
- Open the watch page on a phone and a desktop to check what viewers actually receive.
- Go live only after the preview and stream health look right, then keep monitoring sound, picture, connection health and the local computer.
- If you need to stop, end the broadcast using the encoder and YouTube controls. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when ended; this archive guidance is not a promise that a single broadcast can run uninterrupted for 24 hours or indefinitely.
YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and notes that connectivity disruptions can break a broadcast. Its guidance is available in the live streaming troubleshooting and stream health documentation.

A rights check can happen during the live broadcast
Do not rely on a check of the archived video after the event. YouTube’s live Content ID scan can act while the stream is running, and a match may disrupt the broadcast. If third-party music is licensed for your use but is still detected, contact the rights holder about allowlisting your channel.

Permission to play music does not guarantee monetization
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and expects original, authentic content rather than generic, repetitive or mass-produced material. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified its coverage of repetitive or mass-produced material. A continuous playlist loop may raise a monetization concern even when you have the music rights; adding original visuals or editorial elements does not fix missing music permissions. YouTube reviews monetization under its policy and no streaming tool can promise acceptance: YouTube channel monetization policies.
What to do when the stream does not work
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live event. | Channel verification, prior livestream restrictions, age eligibility, or first-time activation may be the issue. | Check YouTube Studio and the livestreaming access requirements. Allow up to 24 hours if livestreaming was just enabled. |
| Live Control Room receives no signal. | The encoder may have the wrong stream URL or key, or may not be sending a feed. | Compare the encoder connection fields with Live Control Room, confirm the encoder is running, and check that the key has not been reset. Reset it if it may have been exposed. |
| The preview has sound but no picture, or picture but no sound. | The encoder’s sources or outgoing feed may be incomplete. | Check that both the looping visual source and playlist are active, then inspect the preview and encoder output settings again. |
| The stream health is poor or the broadcast drops. | The connection may not sustain the chosen bitrate, or the computer/network may be interrupted. | Check upload capacity, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, reduce the outgoing bitrate if needed, and monitor stream health. Follow YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance. |
| The broadcast is interrupted after a music match. | YouTube may have detected third-party content through its live scan. | Review the matched track and your rights. If you hold a relevant licence, ask the rights holder about allowlisting the channel; do not assume a post-stream claim check is enough. |
| The MP3 playlist stops or fails to repeat. | The encoder’s media source or playlist may not be configured for looping, or the local files may no longer be available. | Test the playlist’s repeat behavior before launch, verify folder access, and watch for playback errors during the stream. YouTube does not guarantee that a particular encoder will loop local files unattended. |
