To upgrade to dbForge 2026.2, first identify your Studio edition—MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL—then follow that edition’s updater instructions. Devart’s documented click-by-click upgrade procedure is for dbForge Studio for MySQL. After updating, test a saved connection’s properties and open it in Database Explorer to confirm it still reaches the intended database.
Check your edition and the 2026.2 release
dbForge Studio is edition-specific. Choose the revision history for your product before installing: features and fixes differ among MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL, so a change listed for one edition is not necessarily included in another. Devart’s revision histories list build 2026.2.54, dated 22 September 2026. Review the history that matches your Studio edition to see its changes and supported server versions: Devart dbForge revision histories.

Examples of edition-specific changes in the 2026.2 histories include MySQL 26.7 and MariaDB 13 support for the MySQL edition, and PostgreSQL 19 support, debugger functionality, and visual editors for functions, procedures, and event triggers in the PostgreSQL edition. These are not universal features of every dbForge installation.

The following updater steps are documented for dbForge Studio for MySQL. Do not assume the same menu labels or installer behavior for SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or a product bundle; check the instructions for the edition you have.
#1 Best Overall
- Close other Studio instances. Leave only the instance you are upgrading open.
- In that instance, select Help > Check for Updates.
- If an update is available, download it and choose Update.
- Run the installer. On its Maintenance page, accept the default Upgrade option.
- Follow the installer wizard to completion, then finish.
To update manually, download the newer version from Devart, run its installer, and follow the instructions. The official procedure is described in Devart’s dbForge Studio for MySQL upgrade guide. For other editions, consult the applicable product documentation rather than treating this MySQL workflow as confirmed for them.
Test a saved database connection after upgrading
Use the connection manager or Database Explorer to open the saved connection’s properties. If you do not already have a saved connection, create one. Check that the connection still points to the intended server and database or service, and verify its authentication details before selecting Test Connection. In the SQL Server connection guide, a success message confirms that the test connected successfully.

- Open the saved connection’s properties, or start the connection-creation flow for your Studio edition.
- Check the server or host and the platform-specific endpoint fields.
- Confirm the login and authentication method, plus the target database or service where applicable.
- Review any configured security or advanced options, such as encryption, SSL, SSH, timeout, or connection type.
- Select Test Connection. If the test succeeds, connect and check that the connection opens in Database Explorer.
For SQL Server, see Devart’s SQL Server connection guide. It covers server details, credentials, database selection, optional timeout and encryption settings, and custom port syntax.

Connection fields and defaults are platform-specific. Use the relevant guide rather than copying values from a different dbForge edition.
| Studio edition | Documented connection details | Official guide |
|---|---|---|
| MySQL | Host, port (3306 by default), user and password, and database. The guide also describes TCP/IP or named-pipe connections and optional SSL or SSH settings. | MySQL connection documentation |
| Oracle | Host, port (1521 by default), service name or SID, and credentials for a direct connection. | Oracle connection documentation |
| PostgreSQL | Use the PostgreSQL-specific connection settings and its documented Test Connection step; do not assume another edition’s endpoint fields or defaults apply. | PostgreSQL connection documentation |
| SQL Server | Server, credentials, and database selection, with optional timeout and encryption settings; custom port syntax is also documented. | SQL Server connection guide |
If the connection test fails
Start with the settings the connection actually uses, rather than assuming the upgrade itself is the cause. Compare the saved endpoint and authentication details with the intended server configuration, then review any platform-specific security or advanced settings. The documentation describes the connection fields and test steps, but does not prescribe one universal error-diagnosis sequence.
- Check the host or server, port where applicable, and target database, service name, or SID.
- Confirm the login and authentication method against the server configuration.
- Review configured connection types and security options, including TCP/IP, named pipes, SSL, SSH, encryption, or timeout settings when applicable.
- Test again after correcting a setting, then connect and confirm the saved connection opens.
Manage saved connections and identify environments
In SQL Server’s Database Explorer, you can open or close saved connections and edit their properties. After editing, select Connect to save the changes. Environment categories can help distinguish Development, Production, Sandbox, or Test connections; the categories are driven by connection attributes, so connections with duplicate attributes can receive the same category. See Devart’s SQL Server Database Explorer guide.

When you use more than one edition or environment
Check the relevant edition and server combination rather than assuming that installing a newer Studio build guarantees compatibility with every database server. Compare these details before relying on a connection:
