How to Upgrade and Level Weapons in Mo.Co

Mo.Co has three weapon-progression systems instead of one conventional level: Weapon Sprints unlock weapons, Upgrade Cores add combat bonuses, and Weapon Mastery tracks challenges and rewards.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mo.Co does not use one conventional weapon-level number that rises every time you defeat a monster. Weapon progression is split across three systems: Weapon Sprints unlock weapons with Chaos Energy, Weapon Mastery tracks goals and rewards for each weapon, and Upgrade Cores add direct combat bonuses. Choose the system that matches your goal, because completing Mastery objectives will not unlock a weapon and inserting a Core will not advance a Sprint.

What “leveling” means in Mo.Co

The reworked Mo.Co experience treats each weapon as a complete class with its own predefined skills. That means the practical question is not “How do I raise this weapon from level 12 to level 13?” Instead, decide which kind of progression you want:

  • Unlock another weapon: progress a Weapon Sprint by earning Chaos Energy.
  • Make a weapon more effective in battle: equip and fuse Upgrade Cores.
  • Finish goals for a weapon and collect cosmetics or account rewards: complete its Weapon Mastery tracks.

The three systems can be pursued at the same time, but they count different activities and award different things.

Goal Progress system What advances it What it gives
Unlock another weapon Weapon Sprint Chaos Energy from Expeditions, Rift Goals, monster defeats, helping friendlies, Daily Jobs and Daily Goal Streaks The Sprint’s corresponding weapon and other listed rewards
Improve combat bonuses Upgrade Cores Monster drops and Core fusion One of eight effect types, with four Core tiers
Complete weapon-specific goals Weapon Mastery Dojo Challenges, Milestones and Elite Contracts Badges, Metrics, Upgrade Cores, a Golden Weapon Shader, an Expert title and mo.gold

Supercell’s support description is concise: “Upgrade Cores provide unique boosts during battle!” The important distinction is that Cores modify combat, while Sprints and Mastery measure progression.

How to unlock weapons with Weapon Sprints

Choose the Sprint you want to work on

At the start of a season, the relaunch notes say you choose from three Weapon Sprints. After you finish the selected Sprint, another becomes available. The exact requirements and reward pool are seasonal settings, so the Sprint shown in your client is the authority for the current season.

Open the Weapon Sprint view, select an available Sprint, and read its reward track before committing your play sessions. A Sprint normally names the weapon it awards along with its other milestones. Selecting a Sprint does not change the weapon’s skills; it determines which reward path receives your Chaos Energy.

Earn Chaos Energy through normal activities

Chaos Energy is the currency that moves a Weapon Sprint forward. Supercell describes it as also contributing to Career and Season levels. The documented sources are:

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

  • Expedition Jobs: each Job displays its Chaos Energy award in the Expeditions menu. Completing the Job grants the amount shown there.
  • Rift Goals: complete the listed objective in a Rift to receive its reward.
  • Defeating monsters: monster defeats can contribute Chaos Energy while you play.
  • Helping friendlies: assist friendly characters or allies when the activity offers that objective.
  • Daily Jobs: complete the daily tasks presented by the game.
  • Daily Goal Streaks: maintain the streak to continue receiving the associated progression.

These are progression routes, not a documented “best farm.” The amount available from each activity can depend on the current season and the Job or goal selected.

Use Expeditions when you need a clearly displayed award

The Expeditions interface is useful when you want to know what a completed activity will pay before starting it. Open Expeditions, inspect the available Jobs and their listed Chaos Energy, then complete a Job whose requirements fit your current loadout. The award is granted when the Job is completed, rather than merely accepted.

  1. Open the Expeditions area from the current Mo.Co home interface.
  2. Review each available Job’s objective, restrictions and displayed Chaos Energy.
  3. Start the Job that matches the Sprint you are pursuing.
  4. Complete the stated objective in the required activity.
  5. Return to the Job screen and claim or verify the completion reward if the interface presents a claim step.
  6. Check the Weapon Sprint track to confirm that its Chaos Energy total increased.

If the Sprint meter does not move, first check whether the Job was completed, whether the reward still needs to be claimed, and whether a different Sprint is selected.

Do not confuse a Sprint reward with a weapon level

When a Sprint milestone awards a weapon, that is an unlock. It does not imply that the weapon has gained a numeric level. Once unlocked, the weapon is available as its own class and can then be improved with Cores and progressed through Mastery.

How to improve combat with Upgrade Cores

Upgrade Cores are the documented direct way to increase a weapon’s combat bonuses. The support guide does not describe ordinary monster kills as raising a conventional weapon-level value. Monsters can drop Cores, and those Cores are what you install or fuse.

Step 1: Find Cores by defeating monsters

Play activities and defeat monsters to collect Upgrade Cores. Supercell says stronger monsters have a higher chance of dropping more powerful Cores. That is a drop-quality observation, not a guarantee that every stronger enemy will produce a higher tier.

Step 2: Open the Weapons menu

Open the game’s Weapons menu, select the weapon you want to modify, and locate its Core slot. Interface labels can change while Mo.Co is in beta, but the documented workflow is to insert the Core from the weapon screen rather than from the Sprint or Mastery pages.

Step 3: Insert a Core to activate its effect

Choose a Core from storage and insert it into the weapon. The effect applies when the Core is equipped. Read the effect name and charge before confirming, especially if the weapon is already equipped with a Core.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step 4: Choose an effect that matches the weapon’s job

Supercell lists eight Core effect types:

Core type What the name indicates Use the description to check
Damage Improves damage output Whether the bonus affects the attacks you rely on
Critical Damage Improves critical-hit damage Whether your build regularly produces critical hits
Attack Speed Improves attack speed Whether faster attacks help the weapon’s resource or timing pattern
Cooldown Improves cooldown-related performance Which abilities or actions receive the benefit
Healing Improves healing you provide or generate Whether the weapon has a healing interaction worth enhancing
Healing Received Improves healing received Whether survivability is more valuable than extra damage
Max Health Raises maximum health Whether the added health helps you survive the activity’s burst damage
Dodge Improves dodge-related performance Whether your play style consistently uses dodge mechanics

The available documentation does not establish one universally best pairing for every weapon. Treat the weapon’s attack pattern, the activity’s hazards and your own consistency as the deciding factors instead of assuming that a damage Core is always superior.

Step 5: Fuse Cores for stronger results

Use the fusion option when you have Cores you no longer need individually. The documented choices are to fuse Cores of the same type into a stronger Core or to choose a random Core outcome. There are four Core tiers, and higher tiers provide a more effective boost.

Fusion is therefore a trade-off:

  • Fusing the same type gives a predictable direction for your build.
  • Choosing a random outcome may produce a different effect that fits another weapon, but the result is not predictable from the support description.
  • Do not assume a fusion will produce a particular percentage or charge value; the published guide does not provide a complete numeric table.

Step 6: Understand the replacement rule before experimenting

An equipped Core cannot be freely removed. To replace it, use a Core with a higher charge. The displaced Core returns to storage, so replacing it does not permanently destroy it. This rule makes it sensible to inspect your available Cores before inserting a temporary choice.

If the game refuses a replacement, compare the charge of the proposed Core with the equipped one. A different effect type is not enough by itself; the replacement must satisfy the higher-charge requirement shown by the game.

How Weapon Mastery levels your relationship with a weapon

Weapon Mastery is a separate progression page for each weapon. It records goals completed while using that weapon and awards profile or collection rewards. Mastery progress does not reset with seasons; the official patch notes state that everything earned stays permanently.

Dojo: timed weapon-specific challenges

The Dojo contains three difficulty levels, with three challenges at each difficulty. These are weapon-specific tests, so read the challenge condition before entering rather than assuming that simply finishing a mission will count.

A useful Dojo routine is:

  1. Open the weapon’s Mastery page and select Dojo.
  2. Read the objective, difficulty and any time or performance condition.
  3. Equip the weapon and a Core that supports the required style.
  4. Run the challenge while prioritizing its stated condition.
  5. Return to Mastery and verify the completed challenge before moving to the next one.

Because the Dojo has multiple difficulties, an early challenge can be used to learn the weapon while later challenges test more demanding execution. The patch notes establish the structure, but not universal time limits for every challenge.

Milestones: cumulative use goals

Milestones track longer-term goals such as defeating enemies, dealing damage and taking down bosses. They are suited to ordinary play: keep using the weapon in activities where its attacks can naturally satisfy the requirement, then check the Milestone meter between runs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mastery milestones can award Upgrade Cores. The final milestone described in the Masteries Update unlocks a Golden Weapon Shader, so Milestones connect cosmetic progression with the same combat system used to obtain Cores.

Elite Contracts: performance-based stars

Elite Contracts award stars according to their goals and your performance. Read the contract’s success conditions before starting, because completing the activity while ignoring the contract objective may not earn the intended stars.

Contracts are not a replacement for Dojo challenges or Milestones. They are a third track with their own objectives, and the Mastery page is the authoritative place to see which contract is active and what reward threshold remains.

Mastery rewards

The documented reward pool includes:

  • Badges
  • Profile Metrics
  • Upgrade Cores
  • A Golden Weapon Shader
  • An Expert title
  • mo.gold

Completing every Mastery goal for a weapon awards its Expert title and mo.gold according to the Masteries Update. Since the progress is permanent across seasons, you can work on difficult goals without worrying that a season change will erase them.

  1. Want a weapon you do not own? Open Weapon Sprints, select the relevant Sprint and earn Chaos Energy through the available Jobs, Goals and activities.
  2. Want stronger immediate combat bonuses? Open Weapons, inspect your stored Cores, equip an appropriate Core and fuse duplicates when the resulting tier or effect is useful.
  3. Want permanent rewards for a weapon you already enjoy? Open that weapon’s Mastery page and choose a Dojo challenge, Milestone or Elite Contract.
  4. Need both a new weapon and a better current build? Run activities that advance your selected Sprint while collecting monster drops for Cores, then spend a separate session on Mastery goals that match the same weapon.

This approach prevents a common mistake: expecting a Mastery challenge, a Core fusion or a monster kill to advance the wrong meter.

A practical progression loop

For a balanced account, repeat this loop rather than chasing an undocumented optimal farm:

  1. Check the current Weapon Sprint and note the next reward requirement.
  2. Review Expeditions, Rift Goals and Daily Jobs for available Chaos Energy.
  3. Choose an activity that also lets you use the weapon whose Mastery you want to advance.
  4. Defeat monsters and keep any Upgrade Cores that fit your current or planned builds.
  5. After the run, verify Sprint progress, Mastery progress and new Core drops separately.
  6. Fuse same-type Cores only after deciding which effects you want to preserve.
  7. Replace an equipped Core only when the candidate has higher charge and its effect suits the weapon.
  8. Return to the Mastery page when a Dojo, Milestone or Elite Contract objective is close to completion.

The loop deliberately checks all three systems because each has a different completion condition and reward.

What the published guides do not establish

Do not rely on old Mo.Co pages or assumptions from other progression systems for figures that the current support material does not publish. The available official guides do not establish:

  • a general numeric level cap for each weapon;
  • exact charge requirements for every replacement;
  • precise percentage values for each Core tier and effect;
  • a complete table of Core fusion costs or outputs;
  • a permanent, season-independent list of Weapon Sprint requirements or reward pools.

When you need one of those values, use the number displayed in the live client for the specific weapon, Core or season. Avoid treating a value from an older version as current.

Seasonal and beta considerations

Mo.Co is described by official support results as being back in beta, and the reworked systems can be configured by season. Weapon Sprint requirements, available reward pools and the order in which weapons appear may therefore change.

For example, a Season 5 announcement stated that no new weapons were being introduced in that season and named Medicine Ball, Storm Weaver and Pyro as weapons entering the P.E.R.K. reward pool. That was a Season 5 announcement, not a rule that applies to every future season. Check the current in-game Sprint and the latest release notes before planning around a particular weapon’s availability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Mastery structure is more persistent: the Masteries Update says progress does not reset with seasons. Seasonal changes can still affect the interface, challenge presentation or reward quantities, so verify the live Mastery page before assuming that an older screenshot matches your client.

Common problems and fixes

“My weapon did not gain a level after a run.”

Check which system you expected to advance. Monster defeats can provide Chaos Energy and may drop Cores, but they do not establish a separate conventional weapon-level number. Look at the Sprint, Core inventory and Mastery page individually.

“I completed a Job but the Sprint did not move.”

Open the Expedition Job and confirm that its completion reward was granted or claimed. Then verify that the intended Weapon Sprint is selected. A completed Job can still be associated with a different progression view than the one you were watching.

“The game will not let me remove my Core.”

Use a replacement Core with higher charge. Equipped Cores are not freely removable, but the displaced Core returns to storage after a valid replacement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Fusion produced a result I did not expect.”

Same-type fusion is the predictable route for strengthening that effect type. A random Core choice is intentionally not predictable, so inspect the result before equipping it.

“A Mastery objective did not count.”

Reopen the exact Dojo, Milestone or Elite Contract text. Mastery objectives can require a particular weapon, enemy type, damage condition, boss or performance threshold. Completing the surrounding activity is not necessarily enough.

Bottom line for upgrading and leveling weapons

Start with the outcome you want. Earn Chaos Energy to unlock weapons through Weapon Sprints; equip and fuse four-tier Upgrade Cores to improve combat bonuses; and complete Dojo, Milestone and Elite Contract goals to build permanent Weapon Mastery rewards. Mo.Co’s current documentation supports these three progression systems, not a single monster-kill weapon-level ladder, so track the appropriate meter for each goal.

For the official rules, see Upgrade Cores, Resources, Masteries Update – Patch Notes, We are so back!, and Expeditions.
